Think of it this way, during all the qualifying matches the commentators get to practice and get used to it so they will be in good shape for the important battles, the finals

I am not going to bash on accents or on how peopl epronounce certain things.
I have been told many times I sound like Schwarzenegger on voicecom so we do agree I have a heavy accent. Next to that people have different ways how they pronounce certain words.
Seeing this game is developed in iceland the english player base can't really claim to have the correct way as how to say scimitar.
Now to the Tournament commentary.
Yes, mistakes were made in ship types. Now let all the people who never ever made a mistake please leave EVE. I am betting this won't cause even 1 player to be lost.
There are 2 people giving commentary during a match. And instead of expecting only the socalled insights of the l33t players we actually have someone covering the basics for the not so experienced players.
Yes she colours some things up which makes some "experts" cringe. but if you're such an expert, then why aren't you in the box giving your comments?
It's a game to have fun in and atleast the fun she has radiats from her commentary.

Some good points re her... explanations of the more boring things. And I get that now. Sorry for muting you.
If its nerves, then I can only hope she has a glass of wine or what ever to calm them for the next round. An Abaddon doesn't take minutes to go from 1/2 structure to dead... if it did those of us who fly them would be extra happy. Might be worth teaming her up with Kil2 for a match or 2.
Also, why don't the commentators have the live feed showing as well... dam that would make it much easier for you to see what's going on. Coupled with being on the field that is. (or is the Live feed not so live... mmmmm)
Relax, enjoy and think before you speak.

I'm still trying to place her accent though, has an interesting ring to it, but I'm not sure what country that's from. I'm guessing somewhere in eastern europe, but I could be horribly wrong.
I live on the Pacific Rim and her accent sounds (to me) like southern China.

Sounds like we need multiple sound tracks to choose from. Wouldn't it be interesting if you could choose from a list of commentators? I know I would listen to finnish commentators rather than the current ones :) |

I understand that a lot of professional commentators have a lot of "cheat sheets" in front of them before the match that includes player and team statistics, short reminders about anything that has happened recently, and pronunciations of unusual names. It may be helpful for the AT8 commentators to have something similar.
For example, a lot of on-air goofs might have been prevented if they had a simple list of ships on the field, with ship class, typical role, and pilot name. To help fill dead time before, during, and after the match, it might be helpful to have the alliance provide information about their recent accomplishments (especially if it involves a pilot on the field) so that the commentators have something relevant to talk about. Like, not babies.
There's a baseball commentator in my area, Tom Hamilton, that does something that very few other commentators do and that I really enjoy: He doesn't talk all the time. If he has nothing to say, then he doesn't say anything at all and he lets the sound of the game come through. Not only is it nice to hear the game itself, but it prevents a lot of awkward "saying something for the sake of saying something" moments.
The commentary this year is better than last year, and last year was better than the year before that. Being a good commentator is difficult. I think you're all being a bit too harsh on Brianna.

Quote: A scimitar (pronounced /ˈsɪmɪtər/) is a sword with a curved blade, originating in Southwest Asia (Middle East).
The name can be used to refer to almost any West Asian or South Asian sword with a curved blade, and is often thought of as having a ridge near the end. They include Arabic saif, Indian talwar, Persian shamshir, and Turkish kilij and yatağan, among others.
Brianna, you go girl. I am happy to hear stuff explained. All you haters - you really want your "internet spaceship game" all to your masculine "failproof" gender? Oh, no? Then stop being idiots.

Cheat-sheets sounds like a good idea - except... those commentating are not neutrals. They are allied with one or more of the teams in the tournament, which should be clear to anyone who watched the Agony/Hydra match. I believe one of the commentators was from Hydra?
Now, they already seem to be into the cheating and metagaming kind of way to deal with the tournament. Just imagine how much cheating and metagaming they could do with a commentator who has a cheat sheet of the opponent team? Even just minutes before the teams face off, that could mean changes that would be vital.
Yeah, I just watch the show. But still, it should not be that easy to cheat.

i m happy with the commentary.
what i hope all the commentators will do more in the next rounds is talk tactics and strategies and call pilots by their names instead of "ishtar is going into structure" say "frug in his ishtar is about to die. i can only imagine the laughter on SHC right now"
but maybe the interface the commentators are having is not the same as what we are seeing.
so yea, brianna doing well. verone enjoyable as ever. kil2 is great. angel hun good as well despite marauder mishap. darius, terrible :)

Please, get rid of her, she just don't know what she is talking about, has no insight besides stating the really obvious. Or try to explain some concept that 99.9% of people watch is already well aware of while taking a long time.
I really want want to watch the fight without muting again. No offense to her as being female, just that she is pretty bad at the job.

A lot of the playerbase think they can do better but hide when asked, a lot of the playerbase think they can win the tourny but dont even step up
Im enjoying the commentary, its entertaining and at the end of the day thats what it is all about, thankyou Brianna for taking part in this

Pronunciations (from everyone) and "captain obvious" button aside, I can understand her role in commentary. But please please please just keep her out of the finals. I actually want to listen to them. I don't think anyone interested enough in the game to watch the finals (live or taped) will care about those basics as much as they will the graphics, outcome, and excitement of the match.

A lot of people told me how bad the Brianna commentary was but I watched all the videos and she wasn't nearly as horrible as people said. She made mistakes ya but so what Verone and Kil2 made tons of mistakes as well.
Darius johnson is by far the worst commentator, he isn't even paying attention or caring and when he tried to be funny he failed miserably. I like when he says "and they just dropped drones" and then 10 seconds of dead air. Pr0 commentating there, I really feel like I'm part of the battle taking place. - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

The hate here is hilarious: fat bitter virgins ITT!
Fact is she wasn't any 'worse' than the other commentators, at least she seemed to notice and say something when a ship started taking damage and blew up, unlike others that only worked out a ship was missing 5 minutes later. She also appears to be directing a lot of her commentary to the newer players - stating the 'obvious' in this case is not a bad thing. Indeed, imho she is one of the best commentators given that none of them are professional.

Seems to me most of the people here focus on her gender. She's not a bad commentator, although I am annoyed at skimitar too. Its just kinda sad that we get a female commentator and that's a big deal. Half the people bash her cause she's a girl and the other half defend her cause she's a girl. How come the rest of the commentators don't have their own threads? Anyway, looking forward to round 2 --------------------------------- Pillage, then burn. Everything is air-droppable at least once. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload.
