CCP, grow some nads, write some some content and ignor what the whiners say. This is your game.
Agreed, don't care who it ****es off, let's just get some player driven content in the news.

Venal
Though the great northern war has seen very few unbiased reports (what press releases have come forward have been from the parties involved with the struggle), the eyes of the galaxy have been looking outward to the goings on of the newly recognized alliances, and the turmoil between them.
CONCORD representatives who wish to remain anonymous have said that CONCORD is keeping a very close eye on the fledgling empires. In the last few months some very startling changes have taken place. The Coalition of Free Stars (CFS), an alliance with the goal to be one of the few that allows any pilot safe harbor and access to its space as long as they did not engage in hostilities with other pilots, has fallen. Fountain Alliance (FA) and CFS came to blows over the owning of the stations in the CFS region. FA, had been gaining financially by holding the stations within CFS space and whose military threat tried to deter any of the larger empires/alliances from attacking CFS space. CFS felt it was time to stake their claim to the region in whole and took the stations from FA. The exact nature of catalyst behind the fighting is unknown.
Stain Empire (SE), formally known as the Stain Alliance, and one of the older powers outside of Empire space, has been in constant conflict with the Curse Alliance (CA), who is also a long established power. While border skirmishes and raiding continues daily the two seem to be at a standstill, with neither side able to truly gain an edge in the conflict. While the conflict has been going on for what seems like ages, the intensity of it does not seem to match that of the "North".
Which brings us to what people have termed the "Great Northern War." This war has been intensely fought over many months. Venal has always seemed to be an area of great conflict, but with the coming of the Phoenix Alliance (PA) the area seemed to finally be stabilized. PA was on good terms with the Coalition of Deklein (CoD) and the Fade Union (FU). Together they enacted a non aggression pact, and mutually patrolled the Pure Blind area to keep it free of pirates, thus ensuring that their supply routes, so closely shared, were secure. This organization of alliances was collectively called NAST. While the stories of both parties on who is to blame for the starting of the warfare, Cyberdine Industries [CDI], a member of the PA is known to have fired on non-PA members of NAST before the outbreak of war between the rest of the NAST members and PA.
A new membership grew out of the conflict consisting of the former NAST alliances, UNICOR, NORAD and singular corporations who wished to see the downfall of the Phoenix alliance. These corporations were Pukin' Dogs, Reikoku [RKK] and Jericho Fraction. The membership was named NCA, a loosely organized group that was basically a non-aggression pact. Evolution invited the well known pirate corp. m0o to fly along side them. m0o accepted. The war engulfed the north and many corporations threw their military weight to one side or the other. Notably, CA and The Pirate Syndicate (TPS) sent pilots north to help PA in their struggle.
It is now months since the start of hostilities. UNICOR, who had been holding the flank against TPS moved into Deklein to form a new alliance with the members of CoD. The new alliance is the Northern Star Alliance or NSA. Fade Union still exists, but the original corporations have been almost wholly supplanted by a group of ex-CA members that came north against FADE in force under the banner of NAFA. NORAD is still in its space; however the loss of Black Nova Corp (BNC) to the Band of Brothers (BoB) has decimated its military force. Which brings us to BoB.
BoB is a loose group of corporations that is basically a NAP and a shared target list. The members are Evolution/m0o/RKK/BNC/Rough Necks(RN) and Arcane Technology (ATUK). It has many other combat and pirate corps on its list of friends. The corporations that make up BoB consist mostly of combat pilots who have no use for the politics amongst themselves or others. Their ability and willingness to fight is unrivaled in the universe. Many people accuse them of being warmongers. They are currently at war with what remains of the phoenix alliance, NSA, FU, CA, and have had some conflict with long standing allies Fountain Alliance. While BoB has always cited some wrong done to their pilots as the cause of its conflicts, they truly seem to just want to fight, and many people find these "justifications" feeble and only recognize them as a group of thugs who wish to impose their will and their military power on others.

Recently there has been a great shake up in the Great Northern War. Many PA corporations, and most of the ones considered to be the core of the alliance have left. Does this spell the final days of the PA? Only time will tell, but the numbers left do not bode well, NSN/Oberon/GODS/Rona/Rona-KIA/Bladerunners and more have left the alliance and the few corporations remaining will be hard pressed to stand where these corporations have.
The CONCORD officials I spoke with mentioned that CONCORD was especially concerned with the organization known as BoB. They view the group as loose cannons. They have not officially sanctioned their organization with CONCORD, and seem to be willing to attack whomever they want to, on a whim. For now CONCORD feels secure with its technology advantage over the outer alliances, but they fear that were they ever to catch up with their technology and turn their eyes on the empire the outer empires might truly be a threat they do not want to face. Especially if powers like BoB or the Curse Alliance, who are primarily military groups, gain in size and hostility.

Ok, I tried to make that as unbiased as possible and from the perspective of an empire dweller. I came into the northern war a little late, so please excuse any lack of information. If there's anything I REALLY messed up please make a correction. I definately think that CCP could really make use of stories like these. It is really too bad that the scope doesnt have enough people, or get fired on too often to really make up a good news service. Maybe a CCP sponsored news organization similar to ISD that can go into a warzone with immunity could work? Since most of the content is provided by the players I believe that this could really be a service that could get more people involved in the "plot" of eve.

Very nicely written Zak. Not too biased one way or the other, and a lot of background info. that's pretty accurate. Good job mate. |

yeah I glossed over a lot A) to try to remain impartial as possible, B) to try to stay in the role of an empire dweller that isn't privy to a lot of what goes on and C) If I had to rehash everything that went on that post would be 23420895 pages long.

Didn't see many active PA endorse Zak's post. And he's been fighting on the BOB side if I'm not mistaken.
My point being that just because one side says that it's unbiased doesn't mean it really is
