Hello,
For quite a while now nano gangs, usually consisting of Vagabonds, have been roaming about near my home turf.
Their best advantage, is that if they don't have a favorable fight, they just escape. As a pure Amarr pilot, what is the most effective ship against vagas, and to prevent them from getting away?
My first though was a heavy neut Armageddon, or a Curse. Anyone got any good ideas on this? _____________________________________________

A curse will eat a Vagabond but it can't really catch em' alone (unless they do something stupid). I'm not sure there is an Amarr boat that can both pop them and catch them alone. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

A really good ship to tackle ***abongs is navy hookbill with douple webs paired with a stiletto that has 40km overheated point range.

Edited by: Tanaka Reina on 21/06/2010 08:51:39 Heh, we had a small fleet defending our assets and a 3 man fleet came to harrass us, one with a vagabond annoyed us, only once did we get him really pointed (for a few seconds) when I jumped to a warppoint I had 200km away.
We had a taranis but the pilot wasnt really up for the job, as I have flied the Caldari Navy Hookbill a bit in pvp and a lot in friendly scirmishes I could meaby try that, it can acheive speeds that are really awesome with lots of meds for tackle :)

You counter nano ships with other nano ships, with sniper ships, or by baiting them into some kind of a trap (like the aforementioned Dominix with heavy neutralizers). Vagabonds eat tackling frigates for breakfast, so stop trying to tackle them. Instead, force them to go where you want them, like into a bubble, or find ways to kill them without tackle, like snipers.

The vast majority of your posting has been terrible so far. You complained like a baby when Claw prevented you guys from going through in the tournament and you have absolutely no clue of PvP.

Generally any recon (except Falcon/Rook obviously) is capable of pinning it down. They don't have great cap, so a curse will neut them out, and a rapier/huginn/lachesis/arazu will pin it down pretty quick. Bait them into a fight with an ubertanked BC (they'll ignore/run away from BS because of heavy neut range), and have a recon standing by either on-grid cloaked or off-grid and aligned.

The vaga is faster then you, so let it come to you. Jump through a gate it sits on and when you load on the other side burn back to the gate. With a bit of luck, good acting on your side and relentlessnes on his, he is going to go for a bump - scram web and kill him then.
Works with any bc or bs fitted properly. -

Surprisingly, the Sentinel is great at tackling Vagas. It's fast enough to catch them, the TD with range script nullifies the Vagas ACs, the neuts reduce the Vagas MWD time and most competent Vaga pilots use warrior IIs, which bounce off the sentinels T2 Amarr resist shields.
You just need a buddy with some DPS to kill the Vaga after you grab it. |

If they're willing to engage a BC, you could, you know, just solo them and get it over with. Of course getting it to engage a actual BC is problematic in my experience.

Ok, so here's my idea:
[Drake, To kill a Vaga] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Power Diagnostic System II
Stasis Webifier II Stasis Webifier II Warp Scrambler II Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Hobgoblin II x5
Move slowly around firing your 1 HM at him, pop out 2 mebe 3 drones. Hopefully he will come close for the kill, at which point overload the webs and scrams, burn off him then OL the MWD as you approach before letting lost the torrent of Terror Missiles (use CN actually rather than rage i think) into his Kinetic weak shields. That might work

...lol....lololol?
we were talking about bc a vaga would attack.... i dont see why you would go inside 10km of a brutix myrm...in a vaga was saying they are potential targets of a vaga cuz they cant do much outside web range
so flying those would be good baits and for the drake fit , with kin dmg boost i never saw one vaga stick around for a fight , probly same thing for hurri

Vaga pilots will know which ships are bait (drakes) or too dangerous (curse). You need something that it will engage but is setup specifically to counter it.
Most vagas are very similar. 5 x 220's, Neut, MWD, Disrupter and Dual LSE is the most common setup. If he's packing warriors you can hold him with something like a scramming, dual MSE Jaguar once you get under his guns. If he has ECM drones he may still get away before you can spring the trap. |

A curse with a TD is an excellent counter. Rapiers work. Arazus probably work with overheated faction scram.
HML Drakes are really annoying to fight in a vaga too as the DPS reaches you and the damage is on the weak resist.
Frigate sized tackler with a cap booster and/or NOS?
Overheated faction webs on anything would also be unpleasantly surprising if they like to come close to put more damage on.
I doubt you'll snag all of them |

I have just returned after a year or so break. The vaga was my fave ship then, it still is now.
Baiting is the key. Make something look like it's travelling/ratting... Hopefully with big neuts.
Fast tacklers are not so bad for me if they're on their own... They generally die pretty quick.
My first loss since back was against 2 drakes and a faction Arazu with scrams on a gate in lowsec... Insta point virtually and those missiles HURT when scrammed. I also was dual webbed by something. There was also a rapier and abaddon that came later and neuted/webbed but I was pretty dead anyways before that tbh.
Apart from that, I don't engage what I cannot kill so it's tough without bait. I would not engage a drake though.
Maybe one of the less able BCs?
