I know I read in one of the news stories somewhere or perhaps it was a chronical or something that 1 ISK was worth alot more to NPC's than it was to a Capsuler. The idea was that we are able to pay our crews and other expenses so easily was because of this difference.
Basically what I am asking is if a Capsuler suddenly gave me 1 ISK what would that be worth me in modern money? Any ideas?

35 USD = 1 GTC = 2 PLEX = 600 million ISK
Roughly 6 cents per million ISK.
Is this what you're looking for?

He's asking what an ISK is worth to the average person in-game.
But for the record, I only changed my sig because I was annoying myself with the last one.

one unit of quafe = 132 gallons = 499 litres.
5449/499 = 10 'cents' a litre.
Coke is about a buck a litre so maybe 10:1 ratio.
This is clearly a signature. |

Thanks Cipher that give me alot more to go with than what I was thinking. The only thing left to wonder is if quafe = soda or vodka?

From the in-game description: "Quafe is the name of the most popular soft drink in the universe..."

Yeah, but capsuleers get the bulk discount. Therefore, if they were like a real-life fast food outlet, they'd buy that Quafe at 10 cents a liter and turn around to sell it at a buck fifty.

So, you know that "quafe calculation"
1Unit of Quafe is 500kg, but only 100Litres! (Volume 0.1m¦) which means the litre = 1$ and 0.1 ISK is kind of wrong. Think of it: How is Coke sold to Fast Food Vendors nowadays?
Its a powder or concentrated liquid that gets mixed with water. So....it would be FAR MORE than 10:1 ratio.

try the ubiquitous shuttle. mass 1600 tonnes cost 10k or so. this is something 4x the size of a fully loaded 747 and probably just as complex since it includes a space drive and full life support.
it would also be somewhat larger than a typical offshore patrol vessel used by navies today. again not exactly a cheap item.
one of the chronicles quotes 20k isk as a quite respectable life savings for a middle class family.
relative pricing for isk is all over the map and really the only thing we know for sure is than an isk is a good multiple over planetary currency.

Guys, you can't calculate it by Quafe or anything... The game is set thousands of years since now and the prices of water and other **** might have dropped or spiked. Please ensure your signature is within the allowed size of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24,000 bytes. Navigator |

Completely irrelevant to the discussion. Think about it... However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

Were talking about quafe in a bottle vs coke in a bottle. 132 litres seems like a pallet. I got the weight conversion using water so its fairly close to accurate.
Yeah, the wholesale price of 132 litres of coke would probably be less than a litre you buy at the grocery store, which is why I estimated a buck. On other continents coke goes for up to $4USD for 375ml. This is clearly a signature. |

Depends on where you're buying... In Denmark a .5 Litre bottle is 18.50DKK in 7/11, which is about 6 usd/litre

About 2000 isk is enough to keep a normal person rolling in money for the rest of his/her life. 1 ISK is maybe like ~500 000 USD.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, might as well join in the guessing. I have heard the above several times, any idea where does that fact come from?
Also, guessing according to starship prices is probably going to be way off, as we have no idea on the price of a FTL drive. Somewhat more accurate measures might be prices of some commodities: Quafe might be a good idea, how about some of the metals / gases? Also, PI structures: I imagine that those, at least on Temperate planets, should be about the price of, say, an oil refinery. Does anyone here got any clue on how much that would be in 2010 USD? Any lore experts here remember anything from the chroniccles that could shed some light into this?
One thing I am sort of expecting is a huge inconsistency, something like a block of steel being the same price as a starship... well, the prices weren't designed with that in regard.

If you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up?
I borked the riggings on a sniper ship this afternoon. Was out 18 mill. It bothered me oh, at least 18 seconds. So 1/1000000 of a second is what an ISK is worth to me I guess. |

Not a refinery butà
Google says: semi-submersible/deep off-shore oil rig û $400M. Figure out which extractor matches that and do the maths. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Well I can't pinpoint it right now but I think it was in a chronicle or some of those prime fiction sources like books, where a pilot offered 2000 isk for each crewmember for some extraordinarily horrifyingly dangerous task, and someone remarked it was like five years salary planetside. So okay my original estimate was way high but it still is a LOT of money for planetary populations.
