I love their songs actually, sure they are kinda cheesy at times. But they're enjoyable and humamble to. Altho i think mirror mirror is a bigger favourite or theatre of pain. But they make good power metal songs overall.

Add me to that list. I like them. Not a personal favorite (power metal in general I can only take so much of) but I will listen to them from time to time. Kinda funny though that you say they're obscure; they are one of the most influential and popular power metal groups on the planet. I digress though, because outside of the metal community, like with most metal groups, they are virtually unknown.
Speaking of metal, I've taken a liking to this new thrash metal band. I like thrash even less than power metal, so the fact that with only one album these guys impressed me is saying something.

I was being kinda facetious, I like Burzum... though unfortunately, from the little I've read, the movie does focus on the sensationalistic side of the story, having Vikerness and his criminal activities as the protagonists, not the raise of the Norwegian Black Metal in the early '90s, which just acts as a backdrop.
Apparently they even got some guy from Twilight to play Varg, and I'm going to wager the movie is targetting that very bankable audience.

I watched Until The Light Takes Us some time ago, but I have to say I found it somewhat disappointing... the guys who made it reportedly had no prior knowledge of Black Metal, and it shows: there's not much in the way of narrative, structure or insight about how the Norwegian scene came to be, influences it took and influences it spread, the sounds, broad spectrum of bands, etc.. it had a pretty limited scope.
If you are already familiar with BM, you'll still enjoy the interviews there, namely those with Varg and Fenriz - but if you are not, you'll get a bunch of seemingly random people telling disjointed anecdotes, this and thats, as well as countless shots of churches burning, the murder and so on.
I enjoyed this other BM documentary more, or even this one VBS made (though it soon ends up solely focusing on Gaahl's figure). There was another one on the Chinese Youtube just about Mayhem's history that was pretty good and lengthy, but I don't seem to be able to find it anymore.

Some guys I know from the Madrid doom / noise / sludge scene, Lazharus, who last night played improvised a veritable Avernus-on-Earth concert that could've worked as the soundtrack to a Satan-worshipping Spongebob injecting LSD up his eyes while ritualistically disemboweling the Easter Bunny with a feedback loop.

The Shamen - Boss Drum A shamanic anarchistic archaic revival.
Afrocelt Sound System - NorthTruly epic song with African, Gaelic and Sikh drumming. Starts very chilled but crank the bass up to get full effect from the 2nd half :)

Obscure music heh? I have more than few things up my sleeve :D
First kudos to guy posting Burzum
Here is some more black metal obsure music:
Dornenreich - atmospheric blck metal and probably one of the best audio experiences in my life (listen to it even if you dont like this kind of music..)
Root - Pisen pro satana - Probably one of most obscure black metal songs evar...Rooten to the core
Nargaroth - This is little more mainstream in black metal world imo ..but its obscure non the less for the most people
----- And now for something completely different... Obscure things that ive been listening recently.
Shiva in Exile - Great atmospheric ambiental etno music (at least thats how i would label it)
Dead can dance - Simply amazing, they are genere of their own...(this video is an except from a documentary so start listening at 0:50 )
And in the end some pagan folk:
Omnia - Always brings the good mood in me :D
Medieval Babes - This song for some reason sounds so minmatar to me :D

Thank you for posting this, it's totally changed how I think about Switzerland. I thought it was all beautiful roads spoiled by an anally retentive population of bankers who imposed speed limits to prevent any disruption to their precision timed chocolate eating sessions.
Apparently Switzerland does in fact have culture that goes beyond the homogenized western perception of Europe as a Christian colony, not only that but has a band who sings in Gaulish and uses real instruments!
Much love to the the Swiss, please post more music like this.

Metal music
Most of the metal posted in this thread suffers from a delusional lead singer who perpetrates heinous crimes against the word 'singing'. It's a shame because many of the best guitarists gravitate towards metal as a pinnacle of string twanging prowess, does anyone have links to metal songs without some idiot doing 'growl like satan' singing?
Note 1 - I tried to find a link to a band called 5ive but all that came up was cheesy pop stuff. If anyone could find a link to the metal band of the same name I'd be very appreciative, they've got superb guitar and no singing (what metal should be!).
Note 2 - Anyone who knows Devin Townsend from Strapping Young Lad (Balding Old Gits) will understand when I talk about a metal singer who actually adds rather than subtracts from the music. More of this please.
Note 3 - Anyone who's in to metal (or other music) and wears a pagan star or skull symbol please understand that it has nothing to do with the devil. Before Christianity arrived in Europe we used to preserve the bones of our ancestors as a form of memorial, to understand these symbols you must first understand how skulls were a positive link with our people and our land.
Any link to the devil is an invention of the Christian (Arabic) creation myth, if you wish to counter the common culture then please try and understand what you're doing because many people died to protect that culture. We were defeated but we are still here.
It's sad that modern culture has perverted these symbols in to some form of evil yet in some ways it's good that they have become a symbol of counter culture. I try to disguise my disgust at metal heads for their abuse of history but sometimes don't have the willpower.

I didn't know about Black Breath, that was cool. If you like that old-school Swedish Death Metal sound, check out Bloodbath, a side-project band originally put together by Michael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and some guys from Katatonia as a tribute to that particular sound, particularly on their first album, "Resurrection Through Carnage".

Was played by the finns during their conflict with the soviets. The soviets had left radio controlled bombs behind that could be detonated when a certain combination of notes were broadcast simultaneously. To prevent them from being triggered the finns spammed the airwaves with this song, over and over, for three months.
It worked, the radio controlled bombs were ineffective.

Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBeKzVhWHY. It's called Szamßr Madßr. It basically mashes two dichotomies of the music world, Glitchcore/breakcore and classical into something just about as depressing as an emo would expect.

It was an instant moment thing after an eve adrenaline rush and was made semi-live, 15 minutes pre sequencing from scratch then this live mix.
The voices were made using a text to speech synth. (yes they sound like half life )
Cheers!

That is some interesting stuff there Charming. I have some new favorites to browse and maybe add to my collection.
My new addition to this thread is a collaboration I had known about since 2005, since I was able to hang out and see one of the jam sessions at the tour date I was at, but just found out tonight that there is an actual album that was released in 2008 by what is officially known as King Hobo.
The following was taken from their MySpace page.
Originally by: King Hobo King Hobo's start began during The 2005 Sounds of the Underground festival. The tour was about as decidedly ôun-funkyö as they come. Equally put off by the lack of anything remotely ôin a pocketö, Per Wiberg of Opeth and Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch set up shop outside the bus trailers and sent an open invitation to any like-minded musicians. Shortly thereafter, they commenced to fill the void. All told, this happened only a few times, but when it did, great spontaneous jams were pulled from the aether. They were a sorely needed respite from days crammed full with blast beats and monster howls. The good times, however, would inevitably come to a halt when a participant would insist upon ôshreddingö or ôwailingö. This was not the spirit of said jams. The credo was ôget funky or get outö.
So lay back and listen to some old school rock the way it was meant to be played; laden with the blues.

Your flunking Vogue
For some dark music that can not really be labeled but the following is from their wiki
Originally by: The Budos Band The Budos Band are an instrumental band recording on the Daptone Records label. The band has ten members (up to thirteen members at times) who play instrumental music that is self-described as "Afro-Soul," a term and sound which - in a 2007 interview - baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel elucidates as, being drawn from Ethiopian music the band had been listening to that had a soul undercurrent to it, which the band then "sprinkled a little bit of sweet 60's stuff on top" of.[1]
Jazz, deep funk, Afro-beat, and soul influences can be heard in the Budos Band recordings, all of which were recorded at Daptone Records at the label's own studio, Daptone's House of Soul, in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Contents
Quoted from the bands spokesman and the baritone player, The Budos Band is like Satan Island Soul.
The following is from their third album which actually craked the Billboard top 200 and the R&B top 30

For something really unique, I'd recommend God Speed! Black Emperor

I've got some goodies for you: (A mix of different styles, all dark stuff)
Darkspace (Awesome for PvP sessions btw) Paysage d'hiver (Not representative of their style, but good song anyway) Chiasm (More like electronic) Damn, not even dark, but I just wanted to post it. Burzum Moar burzum Ok, some growl here.
I also approve Openth and Porcupine tree, both great bands. Not really "metal" but they totally made me reconsider rock music.

Insert shameless plug of my Fraps on youtube.
I try to pick tracks that you won't hear on the radio...well not in the US anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IM0zjVm1ME&hd=1 3 songs on the 1st vid, Some nice heavy industrial followed by experimental / hardcore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYfvPsYWsHQ&hd=1 1 song on this one Pacman meets DnB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzuGrQgkTps&hd=1 last a not so rare track, followed by some 80's retro from the now defunct Oak Lawn Records of Dallas

No idea whether or not they actually are unknown. They were unknown to me until a week ago, that counts in my book.
That vid rested on my desktop for quite some time. Not feeling guilty for downloading since I got the album anyways.

Find "Peaches" on youtube (not linking because her good tracks are also very NSFW) Roisin Murphy Run DMC (ok, not really obscure but "Crown Royal" is a great album) Nouvelle Vague (they are especially fun if you go and listen to the original songs, too)
