Edited by: Doomfist on 25/07/2010 09:35:46 I was in corp and this guy (who I dont wanna name) joined the corp he joined me on mission waited till I had NPC on me then attacked me
I then got a private message from another person in another corp warning me about this player but it was too late (and when I went to kick the player from the Corp it would not let me (it said I couldnt cause he was still in space)
Well after I took enough damage half into armor ...the dirty bum of a corpmate wants 400mil to stop (I didnt think he would stop as if hes low enough to ransom a corp mate he aint ever going to let me go) so I fight in my mission ship against his pvp ship and I actually come out on top
Thank god the npcs where not enemies abound 5 or forget it id been really poor this morning
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this kinda thing?
I dont mind the can flipping and stealing and low sec thing but the one player that should not be able to attack you is your own corp mate (and for a whole bunch of reasons)
I wanted to put a bounty on this traitor of the highest order but the game would not allow it cause he did not have a neg security rating ( I wanted to be able to tag him as a security risk
If this whole attack gank your corp mate is a feature I think its my least favorite and in my opinion should be changed next patch

Assuming this isn't a troll......
Shooting corpmates has been around forever, or at least as long as I or any of my friends have been playing. It won't be going away. The way to address it is to be more conspicuous in your recruiting, and also in your evaluation of people's behavior.
Again, the general rule of Eve applies. Never fly anything you don't want blown up, because there are a thousand ways it can happen. I can't speak for CCP, but I expect that corpmates will always be able to shoot at each other, and I hope it never gets changed.

if you are the CEO just strip his roles and then boot him.
Add him to your watchlist so you can do it when he's offline. Alternatively, petition.
The free attack corp thing is so that you and your friends can play around and practice PVP without concord involvement.

This is a matter of trust.
he joined and bluffed his way in to be able to get to gank some expensive missionship or loot your entire corp hangar, if they are infiltrators, they will try to make it look like they realy need access but totaly understand if you dont want to give it now since hes new and then maybe, help haul alittle, build some goodwill, then wham. This is working as intended.
Interview your joinees better, ask for their limited api, use evesearch to find posts about/by the character. Google the character name +killboard and see if the bastard has been up to neferious deeds(elite pvpers such as this cant help but gloat their trade on the intertubes ) Convo/mail old ceos(That are not a one man corp or a corp the guy frequents often as the more obvious: his alt corp) before giving any access.

Honestly this had never happend to me before sure I see people in same corp fighting each other but I thought it was a no risk duel thing like world of warcraft ( I know this aint WOW ) I dont mind the thousand ways of getting your ship blown up as long as its not of a fellow corpmate its not good for the game in my opinion it surely aint good for people wanting to start a corp and meeting new friends
Im sorry but Why bother going out to low sec to pirate when you can do it in highsec with all the protection of high sec ? Seems to me it actually takes effort and skill to fly in low sec and pirate I can respect that but attacking your corp mate requires no skill and im surprised more dont do it if its this easy
Just watch for a new corp hes got a golem and is trying to build his corp get a couple frineds join the corp then attack him when its only you your fiends and him then gank him for his mission fittings sorry this is bad feature and is not good for corp building
If this feature was just a harmless dual then ok but for it to be fatal with loss of ships are you really thinking this is good for the game ?

The free attack corp thing is fine and dandy so that concord dont get involved and all
But to have that pvp fight take place in a mission like enemies abound V are you serious ? I have a hard time thinking CCP intended for you to kill your corpmate and steal his stuff under the guise of "practicing PVP without concord involvement"

This is working as intended, and should be a pointer for you to be a bit more selective and inquiring when you allow new players to join. Next time, have em fly with you, while NOT in corp yet. Get to know em, yadda yadda yadda..

Quote:

You tag him as security risk by setting corp standing to -max, not by enlarging his e-peen with a bounty.

It is the most effective way to let people test ship fittings without having to go into lowsec, loose standing over it, or have to declare war on eachother.
In all honesty, you should read up a LOT on how to manage a corp, starting with reading in here, and by asking questions to people in the saddle longer then you.

This was your poor judgement on an aspiring member that made that possible, not CCP. Think first, then think again, then act. This is EVE.
7/10 = a rating usualy given to suspected trolls: people that try to spawn a useless discussion, hoping others will bite. He rated you a 7, be proud of it You dont get a 7 that often for this quality. Tho I suspect you are not trolling, but just ignorant.

I'm sorry but you lost me as soon as you said, in the same post.... no risk world of warcraft, not good for the game, not a good way to make friends. At this point I should just release the parking brake on your car when you're camping in the Grand Canyon, but I'll make a stab at addressing it.
I think it's perfectly fine for the game. As stated, this isn't WoW. Thank god. If you want to have friends in this game, you can have them quite easily. You just have to actually get to know the people you are mingling with. I'm pretty sure this guy who ganked you hadn't convinced you through conversation and ventrilo/TS contact that he was an awesome chap that you were going to really enjoy sharing super dooper spaceship party time with. My guess is that you guys had a cursory acquaintance at best and he mosey'd on over to "help you with a mission" or some other ruse to get into your fleet and warp to you.
If you take the time to recruit and work with quality people, it is quite easy to have friends in this game, and avoid corp thefts and ganks. The whole point of the corporation is that the law is hands off on what happens in it. Consider it Vegas. What happens in your corp, stays in your corp. You and you alone are responsible for the safety of your ship and corp assets as regards the corpmates. If that is an issue for you, there are plenty of games out there with artificial boundaries to make it safer.
Please don't invoke the selfless martyr angle of "I can accept this personally, but guys... it's so bad for the game and that's what I'm really concerned about". It doesn't wash. The ruthlessness of Eve actually works to bond groups together, I would argue, the exact opposite of your opinion.

Edited by: Doomfist on 25/07/2010 10:27:26 My issue is why even have high and low sec and concord and all the rules for this and that if its just a free for all in the ONE PLACE that it should not be Now I can see why those that been playing the game for years and watching as their old time corps grow stale and see an up and coming mission runner trying to grab a small slice of the pie and feel a lil threatend
I can also see why their would be support from them to keep such a loophole in so that they can crush the competition not though open combat but by backstabbing
This supporting/defending the loophole to "practice some pvp" really ?
Me thinks some of you long time players that are all knowing and rich ingame dont really need the practice and can afford to lose some ships You dont "need" this feature (it destroys more than it helps and you all know it deep down inside)
This is not a good feature for CCP as all it does is scare away subscribers from their game OR it scares others into the arms of established corp so I guess it must be working as intended ...eh?

It all comes down to trust, not the mechanic that allows it.
Your mistake was trusting someone you didn't know. Take it as a lesson, learn from it and be stronger in the future.

Edited by: Ran Khanon on 25/07/2010 11:13:21 Good advise so far. And these mechanics should indeed never be changed. If you are careful / paranoid enough, you can avoid a lot of problems with corp infiltration / theft.
Background checks should be done for every stranger who joins a corp. And if you think your corp is particularly vulnerable it is pretty customary to ask for API's as well. Some corps also have an invite-only policy in regard to recruitment which is pretty smart.
For background checks Google really is your friend, as well as eve-search.com. Also take a good look at someone's killboards and employment history and feel free to contact former CEO's. Also check if the character hasn't been sold on the character bazaar to get a clue about which part of its history applies to the current holder.
This all won't protect you against newly made characters though but they are less of a threat I think (unless you give them the ability to get their friends/mains in).
edit: After reading your last reply here; "What Ressiv said."

Well, this has to be a Troll or your corpmate is a total failure at ganking. And grats for fighting back & never, ever, ever, ever pay a ransom!
Now what you do is you don't kick him, you use him as target/PVP practise until he gets sick of it and leaves.
Then you wait till he joins another player corp and you tell the ceo and organize to have him ganked there too and so on... See, if you have the right approach here you won't be satisfied until he is unable to play EvE with this character.
No sympathy for the Devil! Always remember that....

I can see there is no appealing to common sense with some of you Your venom filled response seems to be driven by your need to gank your corpmates(backstabbing) I suspect its not to "Practice pvp without concord intervention"
So let me get this straight you superstars need to Practice pvp so ya need this feature but at the same time wanna bash me for not knowing what is in someones heart and mind when joining a corp ? Thats pretty rich on so many lvls
Sucking the life out of Eve cause I want someone thats flying my colors to at the very least not to easy mode pirate me ?
Ok and this is to CCP ...I dont want this taken out of game but how about ammend this feature that will give me PERMANANT kill rights without "concorde getting involved" So that atleast there is more risk and real punishement for those heroes that back stab/gank kill their own "corpmates"
Want pvp game to take off ? give people more than 15 min To punish a thief/backstabbing/canflipping/corp ganker not everyone that pvps wants to be a pirate but I wouldnt mind hunting a few down ...FOREVER

Epic logic fail on common sense, cuz noone would last longer in a corp doing that, then the CEO takes to kick his/her ass. The only one responsible here is the CEO for being a lousy recruiter. Not game mechanics.

TBH, what is 'rich on so many lvls' is your sheer ignorance and stupid mentality. You dont recruit someone on the basis 'I wanna join, even tho you dont know me at all'.

If you would've invested as much time researching how corporations work as you invested in whining over it, you could have avoided this.

I understand now. You want to be able to blow up your squadmates ship when you Practice PVP ?
I also understand most of the defenders BEST excuse for keeping the status quo is to practice PVP (not a very strong defense at all) now if your a gank your own corpmate for personal gain type or wanting to keeping a new corp down for whatever your reasons I can understand you defending this garbage and it is garbage
If they changed the feature so that if a corpmate blows your ship up you get perma-kill rights on him (unless player pays you to take it off) I see that as EASY mode off ...like I said earlier I understand why you like it cause its brainless no risk pvp
There should be a penalty for attacking to kill for profit a corpmate just cause you cant handle the risk/reward feature does not make me less right about this *especially in missions surely ya all dont really publicly defend that type of "PVP practice"...well ya ya do so no need to answer that one hero

I don't think you 'get' EVE yet and are still stuck in the WOW mentality on many issue's. You're most valuable assets in EVE are not your ships or amount ISK, but the people you know and the amount of trust they give you. No place in EVE is suppost to be risk free, that includes your own corporation. It was YOUR fault for not checking up on his background, checking his API etc before taking him in. You were lucky there actually, corporations have had billions in assets stolen by people who infiltrated their corp and built up enough trust to be given access to the corp hanger etc. On the flip-side you can make sure that his EVE life will be miserable from now on if you choose to do so. As has been stated earlier in the thread keep blowing him up until he leaves your corp, keep an eye on him after he leaves and contact the CEO of every new corp he joins so they will do the same. You can hire mercenaries to hunt him down, you can permanently war-dec him if you so choose using locator agents to find him and hunt him down.

What am I supposed to learn how to read minds ? How can you hope to do the impossible ? Of course this does not mean I want easy mode corp management I just want it to make sense ...follow some sane guidelines
Ill take a change in the mechanics of course that no corpmate can attack another(especially in missions ...what PVP does that practice?) seems to make PERFECT sense to me and IF I cant get that change Ill take perma kill rights on that player either way MY ideas FIX the easy mode pirate ganking of corpmates and make it a bit harder Wanna "practice PVP" go do it ...I on the other hand cant read hearts and minds so I think its ridculous to ask me too yes I can look at corp history /age /sec status but I cant read minds to allow a mechanic that forces me too is retarted at its very foundation

Good players learn from their mistakes, alter how they approach the same situations in the future. You don't have to read minds to do that.
I've often asked a corp mate if I can test out my damage, or asked them to test my tank in the past. Why should this change because you cannot seemingly check your corp applicants?

Cry about game mechanics all you like CCP aren't going to do anything about it.
Yes I agree mind reading isnt the same as a backround check so why have a system that so relies on mind reading seems counter productive to me
As far as crying about game mechanics...well no I just think there is a better way
Will CCP listen and agree and change ?
I dont know but I do know this is a "discussion forums" and since this game has had many changes/patches means the game is everchanging and this is one of those things that should be changed at least make it so they cant attack you whille you on a mission (or do you defend that kind of "practice pvp"?

I'm not defending or justifying anything. The mechanic exists and people like you that refuse to take responsibility for their actions are not going to convince CCP to change anything.
Again, you do not need to be a mind reader. Clearly this is not a concept you are capable of understanding so the idea of this being a discussion is rather limited. Signature locked for inappropriate image. Zymurgist |
