Also, World of Tanks is indeed awesome, and Curse is giving away beta keys here.

Originally by: CCP Eris Discordia Back then we had topics that said the sky was falling and we had our share of forum drama too, but this does look different to me. It clearly goes beyond the issue of lag and the content of the expansions. I thought Nyphur article was throught provoking for me (and I tried to read it from a non CCP perspective as much as possible).
Now just to make it clear, this is no official CCP post but just my personal impression and thoughts. I do think there is a bigger gap between players and developers than there used to be for various reasons which isn't helpful for anyone either.
Does this imply (above disclaimer aside) that the devs might deign to respond to counter the "bigger gap between players and developers"?

i will be perfectly honest here: all u whiners can go and suck the milk from a dead cow while playing a game better than eve. You idiots must understand that every game out there had its ups and downs .... wow has crashes and mega lags in wintergrasp ... lineage kept failing on mass sieges ... even CoD is filled with hacks and ****.
Just because CCP failed with its latest free expansion doesn`t have to mean that the game sucks or is broken ... for me at least its great and i love it. If u don`t like it GTFO ... if u`r playin it .. vote for it!

It isn't free, its paid for by our regular subscription. You talk like we are privlidged or something, No, CCP are privlidged that we PAY THEM. So lets just clear that up here shall we and not be under the illusion that we "free" expansions. We don't. We pay for em. It is a game as a service, a subscription service, now if you want it the other way go to Guild Wars.
If they didn't update it, they would have no customers subscribing to old sh't, period.

It has been nothing but 'old ****' for a fair while now, aside from the odd gift ship that does almost nothing useful.
T3 cruisers were a good addition, but that was... what, a year ago now?
There's been so few major improvements or additions since Apocrypha. The odd shiny tide-me-over features aside. And the new sov... good idea gone very wrong right there.

I don't think it needed one, but I thought it did have one.
Personally I think CCP should move this post and other similar posts to a "Opinion Forum" and leave this forum for discussing Eve in game.

Edited by: achoura on 02/08/2010 17:44:41 When I have to wait 18 months to 2 years for bug fixes, I see no reason why any developer should receive any award, unless it's for incompetence.
2 years ago You gave me 3 months of lag free 1000 man fleet fights. 18 months ago you gave me horrid lag killing both 0.0 and lowsec fleets. Toady it's possible to have 4-500 man fights with lag in 0.0, taking a 50 man gang into lowsec causes more lag than fleets in 0.0. You broke my game then chose to add new features for 2 years instead of fixing what was actually working as advertised.
The idea that you've hired a PR company for damage control is as foolish as your decision to ignore known problems. The people who care are right here, so paying another company to continue your lies/pretend there haven't been problems in eve for 2 years is close to a joke. The notion that you can cover it up, bring new players into eve and hope they won't notice or become aware through the community is just as silly.
Eve has grown up over the years, and it's not exactly half obvious the way the game was developed 6 years ago is not the way it's developed now. CCP seems to have forgotten the community you fostered hasn't changed. The same people playing eve 5 years back are here now, and they don't like the way ccp has changed.
CCP has been operating under the approach that "new features sell better than polished perfection"* (a quote from a GM or DEV, I don't recall which) and we're sick of it. For many years the same "take everyone off new features and fix the game" phrase has done the rounds, never has it been more apt.
Operate eve the way you used it, when we started playing, or don't bother asking for our help.

Q. Why do you bother having the CSM if you don't bother to have people to work on why they bring up?
Q. Why do you not have a team dedicated to the fixing of bugs and assuring eve is functioning they way it is supposed to?
If you don't care enough about your game to have people dedicated to fixing unintended bugs, many of which have gone ignored for years, why should we care to give you a positive image? That would after all, be a lie.

diference being back in the day the developers and players would interact all day on the forum and discus/rabble that is what i personaly enjoyed about eve - i felt i could have my say and then that would be taken by the dev and influence what is been done.
now we get the few mod drones and ocasional dev dropping in
also the community attitude has changed - bad then people would talk with the devs.. however now if a dev posts they get trolled/*****ed at for it so i can totaly understand why they dont -----------------------------------------------

Even if they arnt outright quitting (i dunno, maybe they are and just havnt said anything) but I am seeing a lot less green lights on my rather substantial contacts list. Participation is down in most of the veteran-based corps I know. Could be SC2, could be WoT, could be despair over EVE's prospects and it's likely a combination of the three.
I know for my part the idea of no re-balancing, no substantive mechanic changes, no new PVP content, and probably only minor UI improvements if any is spirit crushing. EVE needs these things to stay fresh to keep vets from being bored, because the community that ties many of them to the game is shrinking at an increasing rate. EVE needs fixes and balance to keep new players hooked long enough to become invested in the community to repair the player base and retain the newbs.
Right now there is a massive communication gap since CCP has fixed their dev resources for the next 18 months on features players do not consider a priority, if at all relevant. And because of this and their subsequent actions, there is a trust and confidence gap that CCP will even address concerns successfully two years from now when it becomes possible (in 18 months teams will be free, then a 6 month dev cycle to actually plan/write/test the fixes).
I think most people are holding their breath to see if, in the face of such overwhelming and coherent opposition from their customers, CCP takes the opportunity to re-examine their plans to some extent and then produce concrete-feature-detailing dev blogs bolstering confidence that things will actually get better sooner rather than later.
We'll see. ---
