Fabulous Idea. And since we're talking mainly about multi-stage deadspace missions, that MWD will sure come in handy. So glad you thought of that and brought it to our attention.

Originally by: kradak could have something like a tractor beam, med slot gadget for pulling in cargo from something like 20km away (possible increase with skill), would annoy jet can miners though :)
Thats called Freelancer (am I allowed to say that here? )

I'd be satisfied with just a proper braking system. Sometimes if you aim straight for the can, you collide with it and stop at a proper range, though.
Oh by the way, is there a listing of different ships' base agility? And how much would you say 2% or 5% will enhance their maneuverability?

I liked Earth and Beyonds system. You could pull in loot from pretty far away and open to see whats inside from any distance. To prevent people stealing your stuff whoever did the most damage to rats would get looting rights for 2.5 min where no one else could open up the can. Also the person who did the most damage or if you were in a gang thw gang leader could assign looting rights to people. And for big things which I guess in this game would be the named rats or the complex bosses the timer would be 30 min but I don't think thats neccesary here most of the time.

I'm glad to bring another fact to your attention: While the Deadspace of the mission as well as all deco that has been there will disappear when you finish the mission, the loot cans will stay where they are. So if you bookmark the cans, complete the mission, fit an MWD and fly back to the bookmark of the cans, as Deadspace will no longer be there you can directly warp there and you ACTUALLY CAN USE YOUR MWD to collect the cans. Or just use a frickin' Afterburner, if you can't wait that long to collect the cans, dammit.

You kids have it easy these days.
Used to spend hours at a time clearing these messes up.

Lets see,
Tractor beams, been sugested since day 1.
Salvage drones, been sugested since day 1.
Having the loot magically apear in your cargohold... very bad idea, it would mess upp PvP far too much, as is now a pirate must get to the can to gain any valuables if your sugestiong is implemented then the pirate will simply sit by a huge secure can and pop ships, all the loot he would then dump into the secure can and there would be no fighting over the can.
Also, how would you solve the problem of a large indy full of goodies getting popped by a frigg?
What loot would land in your cargobay and what would happen to the stuff you cant fit?
Dest it?
No, better that the tractor beam/cargo drones hit the game.
My personal favorite would be tug drones, the drone would go to the can, and tug it back to your ship allowing you to pick and choose from the goodies inside and thus iliminating the prospect of having a drone AI choose what to pick upp from the can :)

I hate when MMORPGs apply fake restrictions on encounters/loot like this. Alot of the new fantasy-MMORPGs do this. Like in EQ2, when you attack a monster, the encounter is "locked" (a little lock icon even pops up). Then the corpse is magically inaccessible to players passing by. The whole system is great for whiners but it totally kills any semblance of realism.
If someone is being a jerk you should be able to kill them. Problem solved. A drop theif may get away with it once in a while, but he'll get killed often enough that it won't be worth it in the long run.
