I just spent the last hour checking out some of the CCP trailers. As a huge sci-fi buff (as many Eve players would also be) I realised just how much I miss the great space epics of the 70's and 80's.
For mine, some of the Eve clips are just staggering and if they were ever made movie length it'd do more for subs than any tweak could ever do. Movie takings alone would bring some nice coin.
Is CCP ever going to do such a project?
Would you go and watch it? Take an aspirin. If pain persists consult your local priest. |

My idea of a movie about or set in the EVE Universe, would be a movie depicting the move to New Eden and the collapse of the EVE gate.

Agreed. Live action or computer generated? The latter would probably be less costly for them.

Yes, would be awesome. Also, get the writer of the novels (can't think of his name :( ) to help with the screenplay!
Although the cynic in me wonders how much blowing up and raging in local would be in an Eve movie... prolly best reason to do the pre-quel, so to speak! |

anyhow, if CCP wants to pony up the cash I'll DP it for you I have access to a RED ONE (for a nominal fee of course) or if thats too much I can get you a good deal on a rental through Ari, a decent head and a nice wide panavision lens. we have access to some of the best talent in the industry here and theres a ton of active sound stages in NYC so no problem digging up ACs, grips and whatnot.
come up with a script and cash and we can get it on no problem. The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

It would take them 7 years to make the movie. Then you would have to wait in line for 2 years. Once at the cash register you would be told you don't have movie watching V and must go back to the beginning of the line. |

PLOT: a guy (played by Jason Statham) wanders into Amamake and gets simultaneously ganked by every pirate, weekend pvp'er and bored nullsec carebear doing hotdrops all at once. He then tracks down all the offending parties and kills them in an increasingly violent and gory fashion, blows up some random stuff and bangs a hot chick for good measure. Also, his ship's self-destruct timer is running and every podkill gives him an extra 30 seconds to live.
The tagline? "EVE is Real and He's Really Pissed." |

If I were able to create an Eve Online movie, I would start with the different stories of individual capsuleers who struggle to survive in a sandbox universe where everything in life is cut-throat business (both economically and literally) and then later rise to prominence with the nullsec alliances and how they have fought each other for the monopoly on the high-sec market. |

Gah, you stole what I was going to say. Clear Skies is the next best thing, but I would like to see a full-on lore related movie with BSG quality or better graphics.
I remember a long time back there were a couple of trailers released (Evolution - can probably find it on evefiles) where a group of players were going to make a feature length movie, but they never finished. |

Personally i think a movies or TV series based on discovering THE wormhole would be awesome... start out how advanced humans are, that all the galaxy has been colonised, then discovering the WH half way through, going through it, starting colonisation there and ends when it collapses.
Next movies/series would be based upon each race before making a show of the novels |

2nd Movie = New Beginning, Four Earth Clans Discover the EVE gate, typical human bullshit creates strife and divide.
3rd Movie = War Between Main Factions, intro to Pirate Factions
4th Movie = More War.
5th Movie = return of the Jove Empire

But, I'd support the initiative if a 3rd-party, anime-based studio had interest in licensing the rights to a film or even a serial show. Might even be a good segway into a more advanced form of Incarna and the upcoming Planetside Dust project. Shoot me now for even mentioning that junk.
I write 3rd party because CCP doesn't need any distractions for its grunt workers asigned to EVE-related tasks. Management, on the other hand, can go fist(*) one another for days on-end and the IP probably wouldn't suffer much.

The truth is, a movie about the Lore is usually a bad idea. Example, the Lord of the Rings series would not have been so popular if the only book in the series was Similarian. Star Wars quit being fun when we knew what Vader was like as a kid. Having vague (but privately well documented) background information makes a fictional world feel deeper. Clear Skies rocks so much because it has a full world of background to draw upon (plus the freakin' awesome storytelling.) If I were to write a movie about the collapse of the EVE gate, I'd have it be about some backwards rural settler on New Eden surviving the apocalypse of the collapse. Maybe, just maybe he meets a fellow named Jove, or a corp named such, or a ship, but just as a wink to the players. |

Yep, that's certainly true. Lore in and of itself would be a bad idea, but the characters and events within the lore are what makes things interesting. Add to that the Hero's Journey plot and some sort of cataclysm like the eve gate collapse or the Amarr attack on Pator, and you have a candidate for a good movie or series.

My initial reaction was similar... CLEAR SKIES with bigger budget!
However, I do think so many parts of EVE could make for a compelling visual narrative, either TV or Movies. I honestly wasn't a huge Sci Fi fan (excepting StarWars and StarTrek of course) until I found a revitalization in the genre with EVE.

The big turnoff with genre fiction in general (be it sci fi, fantasy, steampunk, or whatever) is the tendency to be "ooh, look at all this sci stuff where sh*t happens!" instead of "oh all this sh*t is happening, oh and it just happens to be in space." Where EVE as a sci fi game is exactly that... sh*t happens, and would be just as compelling if it happened on 17th century wooden sailing ships. EVE's specific strength is that it lets sh*t happen. |
