Originally by: Rasz Lin it says scanner no longer plays error sound, does this mean you fixex THAT ONE INSTANCE of sound glitches? or do you mean you found the bug that screwed HALF OF THE SOUNDS in eve? including "lack of sound when clicking items in quickbar" "opening manufacture menu" "no drag and drop sound" and so on???
I had this same problem a wile back, and believe it or not its not really an eve issue. Adjust your sound settings on your computer to a lesser setting i.e 5.1 surround to lets say stereo.

optional patch
Optional?!?!
:lolcp:
Open up a whole new can of worms, why don't you? I can see it now... and it's not pretty (*cough* invalid build *cough*). Has this "optional patch" thing ever been done before? Has anyone actually tested it?
Glad to see you're on top of the raft of problems introduced by the Tyrannis 1.1 patch, but tbh that patch should never have seen the light of day. At least the question of whether or not LOLCP does any QA testing at all has been finally answered beyond the shadow of a doubt. If I was an investor, I'd be mighty ****ed right about now. It's a travesty that something that bad could be foisted on your paying customers without any testing whatsoever.
Polish up those resumes, boys and girls, the writing on the wall is pretty clear. |

whynot just rollback the 1.1 patch and bake it a week or 2 more until it really works?
patching a patch that introduces about 50 regressions is just plain bad
the Optional patch DOES NOT address stability!, at all, here is the optional patch notes:
Patch notes for Tyrannis 1.1 Optional Patch
To be deployed October 2, 2010
User Interface
* When opening the scanner the alert sound is no longer played. * Windows will now retain their correct size when you open and close them. * You can now view member hangars through the corporate hangar as intended. * Hiding passive modules in the HUD no longer hides all modules. * In the sovereignty dashboard only the first word in the location name was displayed. This has been fixed and the full name is shown correctly. * Resolved an issue where corporations who were part of an alliance had blue alliance stars against corporation members. The correct green star will show for corporation members. * If you moved a window half way off the screen it would bounce back into full view when you opened a new window. This has been fixed. * Certifications now show the level required for component skills. * Chat channels will no longer reset to the default positions every time the client is restarted. * Chat channel logs now show the channel name again as originally intended.
The BIGGEST problem IMHO with 1.1 is that it randomly crashes! This is huge, and really should be addressed with the optional fix, and if you cannot, then unfortunately, rollback is the only intelligent way to proceed.
I am an IT professional, with more then 15 years doing this sort of thing, and what is happening here is just plain wrong.
Rollback 1.1,
Prime Beta testing eve since 2002Ö
This.

UI * Some **** that worked fine before but then got shafted might work again (but might not) but we may have shafted something else while not fixing it. Please test it for us and pay us for the privilege so we can re-invest the money in something other than fixing l a g!

Edited by: Crunchmeister on 01/10/2010 21:03:18 How about fixing the issue where I can actually activate my modules?
How about letting me reload weapons in space rather than from the fitting window while docked only? Trying to reload my weapons in space (providing my modules actually activate) tells me I'm loading the wrong ammo type.
How about letting me fit modules to an empty ship rather than giving me the "no free slots - free up some slots first" error?
How about letting me see who's got negative standing in my local window?
How about letting me see my agressed flashy targets in my overview (yes, my settings are correct)?
I dunno, but I've got some major issues and it seems this "optional" patch seems to address only the minor annoyances. I'm basically stuck spinning ships in station on 3 accounts until the real bugs are addressed. Now THAT'S getting my $45/month worth!

Bets on what issues will crop up with this optional patch(*)? Clearly CCP can't be arsed to review their work for errors until their clients speak up in volume about their shoddy production values.
CCP employees must be drinking the bubbly now that they are about to release their optional fix and go back to planning their next vacation as well as strategizing how to outsource more of their QA testing to 3rd world countries for pennies.
After all, taking first class seats to tropical destinations isn't cheap!
(*) - many if not most folks are experiencing several of the main bugs listed in the Tyrannis 1.1 issues thread. "Optional" isn't really.

This optional patch scares me. Based upon all logistics of this situation that I can imagine, morons created and failed to test a garbage patch, now those same morons have a fix for us overnight? Yeah, right. I'm going to let some other brave soul "test pilot" it before I download the optional patch.

Old Lessons, new dogs....
CCP learnt years ago: - Most people play at weekends. - Most problems are created and therefore can be fixed, given time. - Most patches have some unforseen issues, small or large, so patch earlier than later.
So, what has been forgotten here.. well, patches used to be Tuesday rather than Thursday and despite common sense, they didn't touch common code such as window snap locations, for example, without some long term testing (I have not seen any windows problems on Sisi - was I testing this change?).
I am not happy with this patch, more so than any other and perhaps after 7 years I have come to expect some service that my tolerance is deserving.

Confirming these rather mission critical bugs. Nearly got me dead in low sec today. Looking on the bright side .. its not really any different to playing EvE drunk.

I've been asked by my friends "what it is you're not in EVE, and in here instead?" "They f-d royally", I answered and linked to feedbacks topic. "Erm, but, boy, the 'we don't know how to fix it so here's two ned bosses and a scary pet companion for ya' that's a Blizzard way of doing things. We've heard that CCP's famous for doing things right, what's happened?" - they replied. "They f-d royally", I answered second time and left everyone in frustration.
Now, i'm curious. Will there be any explanation, how this royal.. (well, you got it?) was even possible to happen? -- Thanks CCP for cu |

lol Indeed. But in my case, I was searching for a target in high sec that SHOULD have been flagged to me, but wasn't. I was locked and fired upon before I even knew who was doing what to me. I hit my scram when I finally found out who was trying to kill me and it wouldn't activate. Luckily my gun group did and I was able to kill him before he got me or got away.
And luckily, I managed to get him with the ammo I had in my gun. After the fight I tried to reload and got an error telling me that I couldn't load Fed Navy Antimatter S in my light neutron blaster II because it was the wrong ammo type. Only earlier, I tried to load some Scourge Fury into my heavy launcher II and got the same error.
I hope these bugs get resolved sooner rather than later.

Edited by: Othran on 01/10/2010 21:40:32 This sounds much like most other s/w companies' "recommended" updates.
ie - something that you shouldn't apply under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES unless you are affected by what the recommended update claims to fix.
Smacks of panic really - untested patch* followed by barely tested emergency "optional" patch. I'll pass.
As has been said so many times before, how about getting some QA who have a clue?
*its beyond belief that some of the UI changes were ever tested. Simple as - and if you say otherwise then you take us for fools.

You're missing some logistic problems there, dude.
Tyrannis PC 1.1 Tyrannis Mac 1.1 Tyrannis PC 1.1a Tyrannis Mac 1.1a
Now CCP has to deal with four versions of the client as opposed to two, when the next patch comes around. What will happen then? Will there be four Incursion-expansion files? Doubt that, so there is just nothing optional about this patch, because you'll have to install it sooner or later. Also I can't shrug off the urge to read the quality of "optional" as "it fixes these issues, but it's even more shoehorned and rushed through QA then the previous patch, so if you install it and get problems, it's your fault".

I would throw some isk at the fact that when CCP push about another mandatory patch ( 1.2 ? ) that people with the "optional: patch will have further troubles, and will be told to "download the full client and run a re-install*

QFT.
Patch releases on a Tuesday or Wednesday have a far better chance of being addressed that same week with good quality. This allows for a tight turn around on the patch(es) as well as keeps those executing the patch home and obtaining rest on the weekend.
As much as the Tyrannis 1.1 patch stinks, I want to see CCP personnel have the weekend off in order to be well-rested for the coming week of 'oh **** we really need to review our patch release processes and here is what we are going to do.'
Well-rested CCP employees give us paying clients a better chance of having a working game when the next patch comes around. CCP employees who are over-worked will continue to put out ****.
This assumes that CCP employees, their management team and their investors give two ****s about the quality of their product. Yeah, I know...

Ah my friend, one of the first lessons to learn about CCP patch notes is that they have become increasingly devoid of information over the past year.
In other words: We could read the updated patch notes until we are blue in the face, but CCP will still omit much of what they changed.

Running tests on a test server somtimes does not produce bugs that will appear on a live server, due to several factors. I could understand if CCP did nothing to fix it, but look they are already workign on it. If you think you can code a better game without any bugs then please feel free to go ahead and do it. Untill then thank CCP for the fun game your playing, and be patient. Just my 2 cents, and I don't really care if you feel like bashing me for this post either.
1, you think wow has 0 bugs when it comes to patches, cause i doubt it. 2, some of the bugs that have come about could have been fully detected on sisi, like corp mates showing up as alliance mates? doubt a hardware change would make that bug. 3, by saying "Untill then thank CCP for the fun game your playing", you assume that people, such as my self, havnt had enough of ccp's bull****, and have decided to leave.
Now obviously people arent leaving by their thousands, but just keep an eye on the quarterly economic thingy where it says how many new people have joined, then look at how many people over that time have been connected to eve, cause i'll bet 50m that it will average to the same, no matter how many new accounts have been made.
Also this isnt bashing you at all, its just with all the crap we, as paying customers, have had to swallow from ccp, i'm personally sick of it.
