My first thought is that removing the sliders is a mistake, while I can appreciate the idea behind æsculpting you character by handÆ many of us aren't 3D artists, and even though I am I still find the current system a bit imprecise and juddery, in addition to this the facial expressions seem to be quite lacking in comparison I know you were saying less cartoony but the snide grin my character sports is hardly that, and by the way why is everyone the same height?
IÆm also hoping that your gonna bring back faction specific clothing because for example while a Minmatar dressed as an Amarrian is plausible within the story of eve the reverse is not really true, and while IÆm behind the idea that some clothing would be worn by any of the races of eve, taking away the unique racial styles is in my opinion is a bad idea (I personally like having a silver bowl in my characterÆs head) and the same applies to hairstyles. I know tattoos have already been mentioned but what about accessories? Are they also something thats being tweaked or are they gone forever. On a related(ish) subject in Incarna will we be able to see the implants our characters have equipped while weÆre walking around? and will you be implementing some æwar tattoosÆ as in ones we can turn on and off while walking around?
I understand that this is incomplete and that much of what I mentioned may in fact be in the final version but itÆd be nice to get some kind of reassurance.
Finally if your gonna force us to re-model our characters then release new stuff for them incrementally are we going to get to re-model our characters for free with each increment or am I going to have to pay when 6 patches down the line I can finally make a faithful recreation of this character (which with the current level of customization I simply canÆt do) in which case IÆd actually prefer to have a silhouette until such time as I can.

Originally by: Aurelie DeChoisi How about making the old discarded faces in game items? It would be slightly surreal and probably extrememly useful somehow ... Also anyone heavily attached to their old avatar can keep it in their cargo bay at all times... and face-stealing / ransoming could become a new and unique macabre mini-profession.
Just a thought
Possible instead of faces we steal the old clones with the old faces?

Looks good but,for males:
1.) Please add "Long Hair" 2.) Need normal type of hair for Male not just the James Dean, Justin Bieber, Elvis Presley stereotypes. It doesn't need to be so much like for Female, but it needs to be more different. 3.) When creating a bald head male and trying to create a picture for him, changing through the poses, I allways get Right Said Fred with "I'm too sexy" in my head :) Please STOP that :)

What bugs me about the new character generation is, that there is just one view.
With so many dials and controls it is hard to arrive at a satisfying result when you have to move them back and forth to judge their influence.
Photoshop has a thing call "variations" that lets you compare the unaltered original with various alternatives not just before and after the modification.
http://www.merges.net/theory/20010308.html
This would allow you to temporarily keep the settings of the controls and compare them to an alternative. |

Ok, fiddled around a bit and look forward to what the final features of the editor will be. I made some effort with some of my toons to get them almost identical, except for clothes and/or hairstyle. I hope I'll be able to achieve this with the new system as well. |

Have you completed the construction of a Space Citadel to store all our old portraits within its walls, to remember the great day we all died to be reborn an stuff.
Pick a system, put the object, enable option open, and we will fly there and place our beloved ones to rest.
Plus it fits eve's scenery, and makes a fine gesture.
Now how you do it, its up to you.
Cheers CCP, its ok , but stay true to quality, i see this game as absolute best in quality, and let it stay so.

I am digging the toon creator so far, tried it last week and was a little disappointed. I notice you have since added more stuff. Was hopeing to see some tats and some different hairstyles. I WANT MY LONG HAIR BACK CCP. Wish there was a way to get my toon to look similar to what i already have. A note on the sliders, I think we should add some. Sculpting is cool but a few nice little sliders to help tweak and adjust to a general setting, would make things go a bit faster methinks Aslo hope you guys are working on skin tone. Not everyone in new eden is a white guy.

Edited by: Joshua Deakin on 19/10/2010 14:19:51 Now that APB MMO went bust even before they really got started they still had "insane" customization possibilities in their character creation. You can create your own tattoos from scratch and place them where ever you want. Not just one but one after another. You can change the hairstyles with mouse. You can even customize the clothes, have different textures. Create totally unique character. Even create a fat person...
I really miss the possibility to change the angle of the eyes. The placement is way too rigid atm. More customization to the jawline and also to the forehead. More skin tones.
CCP should hire a couple devs from the dev team. 3min youtube video Article

I think everyone is jumping the gun on thinking this will be too hard with out sliders. It's not like your actually having to draw the face yourself on a blank piece of paper. Why don't you guys go try it out first, and then start whining if your too inept to put finishing touches on something thats half done for you.
I'm personally quite excited for this and have been waiting for a long time for it to happen. Even though i do love my current portrait, the prospect of being able to make it better would be, well, better.
Tank girl outfits and hair better be in this!

you're kidding right? It's not like you need a freaking degree or four years' experience in 3d character art to be able to grasp the concept of "click+hold on the bit of the face you want to alter, then move the mouse around until it looks right".
especially when the alterable zones of the face have a clearly visible blue grid to help you select them. -

I love what I see so far. I just hope that after this is released we won't have to do the messy "portrait swap" nonsense considering all the exciting new features and many people surely wanting to change things on the fly. I'd figure in a universe where Humanity has mastered interstellar travel, cloning and information processing and storage people would be able to change their damn clothes! ------------------------------- The fox chases for her meal, but the rabbit runs for her life. |

Edited by: elitatwo on 21/10/2010 00:52:01 So when the new toons are ready, will they get a new face with implants plugged in when they get killed and floating in space or will they be left with the two male and female "bodies" we have now?
Oh and I really love the new cc. Hope more girls will find EVE more attractive with the new faces.
We will need moooar exotic dancers with the Incarna extension

This looks to be interesting.
Although it is simply imperative that the Character Creator preserve the natural Gallente and Intaki haircolors (Blue, Green, Fire-Engine Red, etc), The character creator should also make all the hair on a person match in hair color.

Agree, I absolutely must have my unnaturally red hair.
Quote: The character creator should also make all the hair on a person match in hair color.
Disagree. You should be able to have white hair and dark eyebrows if you want them... otherwise everything on light haired characters might begin to look funny...

Who exposed us to radiation to get the green hair? I always though we used Advanced Technology(tm) to permanently dye our hair...and keep it from growing. I disagree with the auto match of hair color, make it an option but don't force it. Real life red-heads are a great example of how this wouldn't work, from those I've seen(including myself, gingers unite!) only about half have red-eyebrows, the rest are lighter. ---- --- ---

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong thread.
I havent had a chance to go onto Sisi to test the new char generator yet but I wanted to ask if something was possible (I understand you are adding many feathures for us to choose from for our avatars).
I spent a long time getting my portrate to have Nix's eyes totally white.... I am hoping that this will be a possibility with your new "Face'a'matic" machine!
Many thanks for your time.

Edited by: Garricky on 01/11/2010 05:38:29 Then anyone know when new character creator will be back as in a date? I went to the trouble of setting up Singularity only to find it not there. Grrrrrr. Took an hour of my weekend - not happy. Why not include it with any build and not cause confusion?

Edited by: Joshua Deakin on 08/11/2010 18:03:26 I hope we'll be getting a much more refined rigging control for both modeling extensions and character portrait rig control.
Like for example this "rigging a bunny" Youtube-video: Nathan's Rabbit Rigging
But since we're close to release and the last test server version was very limited I try to not get too excited about the customization possibilities.
Maybe enable "expert mode"? |
