If that same level of detail makes it over to Incarna, untouched, it'll be pretty amazing. The interiors will all need the same level of detail also. Which should lead to updated ship graphics... and a need for beefier PCs to run said graphics. Sweet, I now have an excuse to tell my wife that I need to buy a new video card... And she still wont let me. :(

These are incredibly detailed models. I smell either a recommended system requirements increase, or else a visual downgrade on the in-game models, with the hyper-detailed original being used for the portrait.

gfldex	Posted - 2010.10.06 19:59:00 - [55] After playing with that stuff with a few chars I can tell that's it's fairly easy to have something that looks like a human being. _But_ if you do so, you will look pretty much the same like any other char of that blood line that looks like a human being. Imagine 20 players of the same bloodline and they all look like twins. The lack of sliders is 'cool' and therefore very bad interface design. The whole thing is just another eye candy of CCPs design. If you spend years to come up with this, you wasted your time.

They had predifined facial structures and you was able to tweak them pretty accurate. Now they removed the sliders but you still have the same predefined structures just less accurate. Why dont you give us total control of our avatars. I mean the chin for example: You can raise and lower it but in the same time it changed its size in width. You said we were shaping stuff by dragging but you are not really free to do so. Its just the same system as previous just without the helpfull sliders. You can do alot better.

If you widen or narrow the horizontal length of the lips, however, the chin gets wider or narrower along with them. There are a lot subtle changes that can take place. Some of them you need to change your angle of view (e.g. change from front view to side view) to see what your dragging is doing. The dragging is not the most intuitive interaction with the avatar, but I think that sliders might be more limiting for some of the options.

Nothing futuristic or exceptional, color customisation is poor and it lacks the character many of the old portraits have. It is still WIP though, so we will have to wait and see what the finished product looks like. The current one doesn't even have proper shoes, dresses, or aviator shades, so there has to be a lot of things CCP isn't revealing in the current SiSi build.

Linkage There are quite a few options already up, but I agree that especially the clothing options are somewhat limited (the current red Kimono style dress my char is wearing currently would be awesome to have, as would any full dress tbh). Also, the skintones are a bit limited now, I'd have preferred a slightly darker shade, but I assume that is coming in a more finalised build.

Well.. those are 2 extremes.. with New Edens population we'll need WAYYYYYY more customization on facial detail level to not just have playgirl1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 all looking nearly the same, cause it might be new to look at now, but the settings I used are more or less the extremes which are allowed by the facial model.. it's not that you can iterate from there on and create different versions of creepy. There are just not that many more. Ps: I've got real trouble to get that cutiepie back together.. dang, I think I felt somewhat in love with that look. One things for sure.. I'll be sitting on that char creator until it resembles that pic again once this hits TQ.. lol.. so CCP, you better put in some restore points in this engine or I'll gonna visit you.

Most eyebrows will still get you WIP, for example, but there's a couple available. So far, all hairstyles are universally available (at least to the applicable gender). I only have access to a handful of race/bloodlines but the females seem similar between Amarr and Caldari, only Gallente seem different from those two, Caldari males seem very similar and from what I'm seeing most 'decent' looking characters pretty much all look the same. If you want different you're going to have to go old or freakish, still too soon to say for sure but the fact that males and females all share the same hair styles across sexes doesn't show much promise IMO. --Submit your bug reports via mental telepathy this will streamline CCP ignoring them.--

In conjunction with the lack of appropriate general skin tone and pigmentation, particularly in the iris, it doesn't really work right now. I also think there is too much of a nordic/aryan-superman pre-eminence in the New Eden gene pool. Even the 'negroid' Brutors don't actually appear to be anything other than heavily tanned Caucasians. Enhanced (as in defined) racial feature options would be nice.

The engine hasn't a very good z-depth resolution and details get lost fast once you zoom out so far to see the full body. How you're going to see expressions from the distance under these circumstances puzzles me a bit. So I'd rather have them on my portrait... Also fps drops remarkable once you apply hair and zoom in on the head. Don't know how much slack they got there to straighten the code in that area..

I mean, picture this - someone is good at sculpting faces. That someone creates a face. Then that someone saves the face, the save file becomes an Eve in-game item. Some other person can then buy the code, for ISK, on the market (or by contract). Super mega awesome would be if you could preview the face/body before purchase...in fact, scratch that, preview is a requirement, I can just see all the derpfaces now... I'm very impressed by the eyes - they look...well, a little bit moist, the irises have depth, and at one point while creating the 'new' me, the character's eyes glanced right at me. The effect was startling. Good job, art team.

I think it looks all the worse, since the hair is done so much better, so there is a sharp contrast there that you can't help but compare it to.

I sincerely believe and hope that the current iteration is just that, a placeholder for further development. Another "problem" is also that the color schemes are very different between hair and beard. Hard to get convincing color coordinated results or rather, natural looking characters. For overbite you can extend/shorten the upper/lower lip a bit in side view. Also it might help once in a while to extend the mouth/jaw area to extremes with lips extended and the work backwards until you have your desired effect. Underbite generally produces unappealing appearance (the lower front teeth are in front of the top teeth). I've noticed that it takes only a very small change in the overall appearence. Change 5 things only slightly and the "person" looks like another person. I really like how the Brutor female face can be adjusted, but it's really hard to get the same appearence twice in a row. Takes easily an hour or two to tweak the face just right. You need to rotate the face and adjust from different angles. One annoying bit is that sometimes when you try to tweak only slighty the transformation jumps more than you wanted and your back trying to figure out where you were initially. -------------------------------------------------
