Hongus Gwag Hedion University Amarr Empire 11	Posted - 2012.08.08 19:47:00 - [1] - Quote I hate having to dock and grab a ship to kill rats with whilst mining, so until now I've been using a mining apoc. I'm wondering with the recent update if a barge could now be fit to tank the rats that turn up in null belts, if not the BSs then at least the frigs. I'm in sansha space so it would need em/therm. It has to be a procurer for now due to poor mining skills. I'm thinking 2 EM ward II a thermal dissipation II and a suitably small shield repper in the mids, EM and thermal pump rigs. Any suggestions besides train a skiff welcome.

I am not sure if any High Sec Rats tackle (Haven't spent much time in High Sec Belts), if they don't you can use Mining Drones because the nature recharge will tank any High Sec Belt NPC. 60K EHP lowest resist Therm, Highest 75k Exp. Has a Survey Scanner so you know what you are not getting half cycles. If you want 2 Mining Upgrades you can ditch the DCU and still hold 45k EHP lowest resist (2 Tornado's 0.5, 4 Above 0.5.). Just started using this myself till I get a Mack. Haven't been one for Mining before this patch.

With really good drone skillz I'd imagine they can handle belt rats in 0.4 and maybe even in 0.3 as well.

Guristas belt rats do ECM jam, however, which disrupts the roid-sucking process. That's one very good reason to carry light drones, if you're going to mine in Caldari space.

Only Guristas ever do this, in my experience. Guristas also jam and disrupt tracking. This may have changed; it's been a long while since I've missioned in Caldari space.

The only thing I haven't tested is a BC spawn... But cruiser/frig spawns are fine. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

They do not need to be T2. Add a T2 Small Shield Booster. You should need a CPU rig. Not sure I would bother with defensive rigs or damage control but use MLUs in the lows. I did some messing around on SiSi before the patch and this sort of setup was sufficient to perma-tank some single-BS spawns. To tank the harder spawns, you might need a Skiff. Another thing that might help is if you orbit the roid you are shooting (assuming you aren't can mining). Having some velocity and transversal will make you a harder target. A full set of drones will help too.

If it's more EM heavy then go 2 active EM hardeners and the thermal as the Passive), 984 yield and perma-runs at 48% with all at 5. This is all EFT Warrioring though seeing as I don't mine nor have I ratted in Sansha space.
