Until someone performs exhaustive tests (minimum 1000 jumps) it will be impossible to say whether a cloaked ship will take you past Customs vessels. Customs vessels can scan through containers after all. But there are better options for those of you wanting to move nerve sticks, being set-up for precisely the purpose, simply hire someone who has Black Marketteering.

I've read through this entire post twice and wanted to know, does the volocity penalty apply while uncloaked or just while cloaked?

Edited by: Myvek on 08/10/2006 00:47:01 Cloak speed penalty is only while cloaked. If you have sufficient skills in a stealth bomber, you offset the penalty and can fly faster cloaked than uncloaked. A covert ops ship fitted with cov ops 2 cloak has no velocity penalty.
I want to know why a Cynosaural Field Generator counts as a cloak? If you have a Force Recon ship which has both the cov ops 2 cloak bonus and a Cyno field gen bonus, you cannot have both fitted at the same time or neither will work! It also doesn't matter if either is offline...

This is not true. Only need to uncloak to do 2 things: -Launch the probes, and start the scanning process. then you can sit cloaked.
I have a question however: If I train Cloaking to lvl5, does it mean coverts and Force Recons will have 0 sensor recal time? (Meaning, can lock right after decloaking). ------------------ Save Deimos! |

Hm, good info. Five minutes after I read this thread I saw you stand and ask your question at the CCP Fanfest about harvesting implants from corpses Hygelac, lol. A good question that they didn't really answer very well unfortunately.
I heard you say your characters name and thought hey, thats a familiar name...

All the resrictions on cloaking are ridiculous. How the hell are you suppose to make a large scale sneak attack? What's the use of cloaking if I can't passive target and launch all my cruise missles almost immediately? Can I atleast launch my moblie warp scrambler when I un-cloak so the prey doesn't warp away? |

A Cloak isn't an "I WIn" button, its designed for snoop and **** missions.
If you want to have no drawbacks then you train for a CovertOps or Recon ship and pay the money for the CovertOps cloak. TO use one effectively in combat you have to have the right skills and equipment. When I first read the descriptions I was kindof surprised that you could mount a cloak on any ship..... <-----------> MMORPG == Massively Moronic Online Raw Powergaming Grief fests....

Edited by: Dana Serenity on 09/01/2007 17:23:59 Just a bit of info that I didn't see here which could also be useful to cloaked ship pilots. Warp Disrupt Bubbles and Interdictor Spheres DO force ships to decloak and prevent ships from cloaking... so if you jump into a gatecamp that is using a warp disrupt bubble which you land in, you will not be able to use the cloak to escape it undetected. Same applied to if you warp into one cloaked, you ship will be forced to decloak even if you land at the edge of the bubble... I found out this the hard way

The last high slot on a taranis was made for a proto cloak - means you can still go for a dump in hostile territory

i have cloaking 3, and i can lock instantly after clicking uncloak in my manticore. i think cov ops ships have no recalibration time, which is what puts them in a league of their own, that a lot of people don't realise this hidden bonus, like SB's extra precision bonus that is also "hidden"

No i don't think that's true. I have cloaking 4 and i do have a targeting delay even when using a covert-ops cloak. It's pretty short though.
About bubbles and spheres: bubbles do NOT uncloak you. If you're brave you can slip through the camp into jumprange without getting uncloaked. It's not easy though. Interdiction spheres on the other hand do uncloak you. Or let's say they deactivate your cloaking device. Yet they don't pull you in as bubbles do and they only last for 2 minutes. So you can avoid them by just warping to 50km and waiting till they're gone.

No mention of acceleration gates.
If I have a cloaking device activated and I go through an acceleration gate will I be uncloaked on the other side?
My guess would be I would only remain cloaked in a covert ops ship, but I'd love confirmation.

Depends... you can't activate the gate while cloaked, but you can recloak (if using covert ops) while in warp to the next spot. Something at the desitnation may uncloak you though. Most often you can not recloak in deadspace areas if there are gas clouds etc present. It is really a case by case type thing.

1. Do sentry drones become idiots when I cloak?
2. If drones are engaged with a target will they continue to fight if I cloak?
3. If I fire cruise missles and cloak will they hit the target (assuming they would have if uncloaked)?

1. drones (and fighters) lose ownership when you cloak. so you cloak with drones out, say bye bye to drones until you rescoop them.
2. see one.
3. no, tho you can use the server delay to cloak a second before your missiles hit and they should do dmg. I've heard otherwise tho never stuck around to see if my cruises did dmg (i did see them hit)

decalibration delay has been completely removed from stealth bombers some time ago, that's why you can start locking sequence the moment your cloaking device is deactivated --- That is a Templar, an Amarr fighter. It is a combat drone used by carriers. |

Quote: 1. Do sentry drones become idiots when I cloak?
From my experiance with drones in missions if i have targetted a rat and told them to attack it then warped out they continued to attack until all the rats targetted them and they popped. If this is true wouldnt sentry drones sit and attack even if they loose ownship of you as long as you've given them a target?

Close but not quite. The rats will continue to shoot your drones but your drones will just sit there like idiots until you get back. It's the same with cloaking as stated before.

Im sure this is in here somewhere, do you decloak if you come within 2km of another cloaked ship? At a guess i'd assume you would.

What ?
How it can be useful to pass gatecamps then ? You simply -ever- jump into the bubble if some is there. Even if you jump 50 km before the gate, you still enter gates which is camped at the other side and you are instant in the bubble .... I don't understand why there is no counter for gatecamps (beside speed, luck, luck and luck) -.-

Just to clear things up Dana Serenity is wrong. I fly covert ops on a regular basis and having escaped from many bubbles cloaked I can tell you that being inside a bubble cloaked is entirely possible.
Dana Serenity must have had something within 2k of him to prevent him cloaking. ============================================
