Let's see once the compendium's ready. I'm hoping for some time in the first half of 2011, but it depends on how much time I have left over from the Immersion project and others.

This is an awesome idea really, especially getting more of the background info into the game itself. The chronicles themselves are nice but they're really disorganised and extremely intimidating to someone who arrived on the scene several years after they started making them. Both your planned features will make it the backstory easier to digest for newish players like me, and thus make Eve more attractive and immersive.

On the one hand, the view most chronicles offer into the life of individual non-capsuleers is interesting; on the other, I've wished for more science and demographics articles for awhile. For instance, I'd like to know how you get the same round into both a Dual 425mm autocannon and a 1400mm artillery piece...
I would suggest that an in-game mailing list, or another in-game method of alerting interested players to new entries, might prove popular.

I'm really excited by this initiative! Ever since I started playing in 2003 I have wished for less of a separation between the rich fiction of EVE and the actual gameplay.
My only hope is that this initiative comes along with some improvements to the way the info is experienced. While having things setup exactly like simple web pages in a simple browser is quaint, I think more could be done to improve the immersion of the way you experience the data. For example something that feels more like you are jacked into a galactic codex with rich media. "Lead, follow, or get the #@$@#$ out of the way" |

Originally by: AnakieNine I found it strange that CCP removed the old pirate logs from drops. I really do miss those. I had a great time collecting them. A type of lore in itself. A lore of locations. They gave players reasons to go looking for something else in eve. Still kept it a sandbox game but encourage a reason to go on a crusade or explore. Please bring something like those back. Give us reasons to explore, I prefer to find a piece of lore and work out the information over looking on the map to visit each unique location which for ease has already been marked on the map. Yes, scanning lets us find things but what site we exactly find is 100% luck. Let me use my brain and work out where and how to find things. Just like a particular sun you already visit to find the complex.
I was going to post about this. I miss finding those pirate logs and still have a huge collection at my old hq. When reading this devblog I immediately thought, why not have the chronicles in game as books you can actually read and collect onto a shelf in your captain's quarters? Sort of like a blast from the past in the futuristic New Eden. In a very Captain Picard sort of way. You could source those books on stations, in shady old rustic NPC book stores (say) or perhaps they could even be player-run, if there was enough of a "black market" for books. Or you could find them find them in missions or plexes. Anyway, those books should originate in their respective regions and they would travel with players from region to region. There might even be books that originate in 0.0 and would be semi-valuable in old book stores in empire space.
Long story short, this might be one way to add uniqueness to station establishments so that there is incentive to explore other stations than just the ones you would otherwise visit regularly.

Originally by: Mynxee I've also often wished for the Chronicles to be available in audio format. I know several players have talked about and maybe even done some of it on their own in podcasts and such, but it would be nice to see it done in a consistently professional manner with trained voice actors. Who knows, maybe you could sell them via Audible.com and maybe create yet another income stream and channel of awareness about the game. Actually, Abraxas, I'd like to see your book available professionally narrated. I have a lot more opportunities to listen to books than read them in a Kindle app or on paper.
I'd way rather see voice acting for mission agents. I got such a kick out of the advisors in Civ II. That was almost 15 years ago and agent interaction is dull and boring by comparison.
