I'm getting a bit tired of reading topics only to realize they are months and months old.
Ofcourse it can be the case that we have some genuine Necromancers on this forum. But I rather think people are necrobumping, because of the lack of a proper search function on this forum.
That forces people to use the little trick using Google and when they do that they forget to read the dates as well when they read the results and post a reply. Google doesn't sort by date.
So CCP it has been over two years now. The betaforums had a searchfunction, even though it was utter crap. We had some outsider search tools like the one of eve-marktetplace.com and some some other ones that were pretty good. I know why but all have been taken out of commission by now, but they have.
So CCP I ask you: why do you keep ignoring all these players demanding a search feature? It's a slap in the face of your (already stained) CS that after dumping your own (crappy) search function, we've been dependable on outside sources to prevent us from starting the same topics over and over again. All response we've got were outsiders who were fed up with it and had the skills to do something about it, while CCP wasn't touching the topic with a ten-foot pole.
Is this just another sign that CCP has hired a bunch of monkeys from the local zoo? Hired them for doing all the actual work: Customer Services, programming new features, and keeping the servers running lag-free with TomP keeping an eye on them spanking them with his nerf-bat, while the rest are just playing Eve 24/7.
I'm not ****ed off, nor am I 'really' whining or ranting. I'm just fed up not being able to actually find old posts that I wanted to read once more. Instead I get to read posts on the frontpage, that I have already posted in myself, months ago.

I was stunned when I first came to the forums to find no search feature.
Though you seem to have a somehwat different perspective, to me, everything else about Eve oozes quality.
But these forums are just...bizarrely bad.
90% of the time I'm afraid to ask a question/suggest an idea because I reckon it's be done to death already, maybe, maybe not - In the end I dont post tho. Perhaps I'm not the only person who gets in that mindset, and if that is the case, then in that respect the forums are hardly conducive to constructive discussion...
If we can't track past discussions, we're doomed to repeat them. I totally agree Tobiaz. Show Your Support For Kaleigh Doyle.

I wouldnt say no...
Afterall, the sites had a makeover, other new forum 'features' have been added, I cant see why some of that time couldnt be invested in a search function, even a very simple one.

There must be a reason that they have intentionally not done so. I dont know what it is, but surely they must have decided not to do so.

The devs don't know how to code a search engine that works with text strings. As evidence I offer the lack of search on escrow.

And if they were really at a loss about how to build a solid search engine for the site they could just have contacted one of the communitymade searchengines.

With such a big site and a big game, it's very odd that these forums don't have a search feature. Sites and communities that are much smaller have search functions, seems proper that there should be a search function here too.

Signed of course. Does CCP have any other explanations (apart from utter slackness) for why there is no search function?

Perhaps they just don't want the load on the server?
They may be trying to do too much with the box as it is - see My Character issues! - -

Thank god someone has a brain.
Imagine the lag caused by the forum warriors executing search after search after search.

Yup it has to do with the server as far as I can understand it.

Which makes them look even more like a bunch of amateurs if that's true.
Like I said there have been several working community-made searchengines. It's not likely those people had $20.000 equipment at their disposal.
Also there are tons of other MMORPGs that do have proper working forums and proper searchengines, so it's not impossible, probably not even that hard.
I really doubt that the serverload of the actual game has anything to do with the forums.

So the totally obvious could happen: move the forums off the game cluster (oops I quoted ISD)

No, it's not the game that causes the trouble. You're talking about allowing (if they did a useful search at all) some huge, complex SQL queries that would pretty much make the box this is on only able to do the forums.
I suppose we could all accept a bump in monthly fees so they could put up an extra server to allow searches - even though we can do a perfectly good search with Google. - -

This server may be doing many, many things other than just the forum and still not be part of the gaming cluster.
I'm sure the entire website is hosted on the same server, for one.
Just considering the burden My Character puts on the server - especially with the XML data - I can see why there just may not be enough clock tics to be put to use as a search function at this time. - -
