I don't know about other players but the look of a ship really matters to me. I can fly an ugly ship - for example I have no problems with the Osprey, but not one I find "silly" looking - Moa. Hard to define but I know it when I see it.
There have been plenty to threads about ugly or pretty shipsbut how about features or small aspects that make an attractive ship less desirable. Very subjective but I can think of a couple that put me off otherwise good or great ships:
Rifter - turret placement on cabin roof makes it look like a cartoon
Drake - Control tower on top should be at the back not the front and the bit sticking out of the tower looks like a nose.
Stabber/Tempest - Just too thin in places, will snap if I make a hard turn
So, what minor points if any, about the ship models bother others?

Edited by: Pod Salesman on 13/01/2011 14:42:37 The Ferox looks too damn cool for it's own good, since it is nerfed compared to what it should be. I just can't stop flying them, but always need at least one low taken up by reactor control unit II. Needs more power grid so that isn't necessary!

Ferox looks flippin' sexy.
But yeah OP I get you. There's a difference between ships that are ugly because of practicality--and ships that are ugly for reasons that make no sense. And the Drake is way too thin.

And that is the main reason amarr ships should be nerfed!!! Having beautiful ships is PREPOSTEROUS!

That having been said about the Broadsword design, a rusty blacksmith's anvil bristling with machine guns and careening through space ... the Rupture is metal as ****. :black101:

Yes, I own one. All the EWAR frigates look a bit odd. I guess they need to, to do their job properly. But of the EWAR frigates. Crucifier/Sentinel still look the best.

The raven would look so much cooler and much more badass if the silly little flimsy looking ****pit was removed (and everything else kept as is)
The engines on the chimera look funny, it doesn't really match the awesome looking front of the ship.
The drake looks too thin, give it more fatness!
The caldari cruisers look all wrong, osprey has the same issue as raven, caracal needs moar meat, blackbird looks like a bunch of lego blocks are attached to it, and the moa...let's not even get started there.
I think all the titans look a bit weird too, they're not like a gigantic ship of doom should look imo..

Amen to that. Some of the Legion combinations are orgasmic. And it just so happens that my setup falls into that combination :D
To the OP, the Caracal looks far to thin in most places, and those two 'wings', they make it look like it has legs. In fact the whole thing looks like some backwards two-legged dinosaur, the cockpit/bridge as the tail, and the engines as some weird flat head. Vile ship. |

Nothing in space is preventing g forces from occurring. So how do you come to post something like that?

I get the feeling more effort has gone into designing the pirate ships (player) than the mainstream ones.

That's not a control tower, it's to make them clip together in a nice stack when you have 10 of them in the hanger. _______

There is no air resistance, but there is still inertia. Those pieces will want to resist the direction change, and the stresses could make them snap.

What's with all the hate for the caracal? It should be stick thin, once your shields are gone it snaps like a twig so some big beefy model would be stupid.

They try not to move it. Inertia is resistance to a change in the state of movement. The ISS might be spinning rapidly around the world, but it always was, and unless you change the nature of its orbit, its existing movement (theoretically) creates no inertia. Any that does exist is very small.
If you did want to move the ISS, you probably wouldn't fling it around by making 432km/h over 3 second speed/direction changes, which is what the tempest does in game. The Adelaide meet, be there! |
