Frankly your only real argument is the disk fragmentation issue. Unless you're running on a pay-per-megabyte internet subscription.
Before this move, portraits didn't load unless you do a Show Info on them before. You couldn't make much quicker than that. Portraits are not really useful to show, especially as they are so small in the member list that recognize players with them is hasardous. Now, as the camera can be random as I can see in some faces, it is even harder to recognize someone now.
Also, I don't see why CCP try to reduce lag and network efficiency if in the same time, they removed all the work done by adding features that some players can live without. Any reduction of the packet amount sent to the player is a good thing, adding more is stupid.
I don't want to go to Jita now < At least, there is something positive on this move ^^
That don't remove the fact that this patch is in general a good thing, but this thing is more annoying than useful.

Seriously guys, stop crying about limited clothing choices, it's redundant. Moreover, no-one will look like clones of another just because they have the same clothes. Your portrait contains so much more than that. Yes, it's just your portrait it concerns; not that you should have known this beforehand but you will get to change clothes come Incarna.
I wish somebody'd put this in the first page so people stop making comments about this.
Now, if Your Assuredness can also promise me that I will not need to pay for my portrait changes when finally at least some content arrives, or you promise to pay for that for me - I promise to be calm as never before and do not bother you ever again.
Do we have a deal ?

Edited by: Khyara on 19/01/2011 18:18:14 Overall I enjoyed the character creator - a couple of observations for female character types:
1) I didnt see a way to change shoulder width. This would be nice if I could do this 2) I couldnt find a way to change height, it would be nice if I could do this 3) I couldnt find a way to change ear length. Again - would be nice. 4) I couldnt find a way to change the hair line - some people have low hair lines, others high hairlines - I would like to be able to make this alteration.
One last thing that Im very surprised at - No black hair. My character always had black hair, and this is an important character design that I purposely chose previously. This seems like a rather large ommission.
Overall I would give the character creator a 8/10 - its pretty d*mn awesome. I hope they take the feedback and improve it further and give us another chance to modify before Incarna.
Oh right - one other obsevation. I have a very modern computer (Core i7 and a 5870 graphics card) when I loaded the character creator I was in windowed mode. I then dragged the window to the largest monitor, and EVE did crash. Not a big deal, but I thought I should mention it incase others try the same.

It's the best I could do with her at this point. How about creating yours first before laughing at others.
I plan to just as soon as I get a working client d/l. I keep getting ones that are corrupt or non functional. ATM I am still updating my STO client in preparation of moving to another MMO. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

Some good news for those who have missed this devblog re. changing their characters if not happy with them:
If you are not happy with the character portrait that you have made for your character, do not despair. In the next few days we are going to give everyone who has already customized their character at that time one re-customization for use during the grace period. This will allow you to restart the character portrait creation process with your current character portrait as the starting point. Please be aware that once you have saved your character portrait it will be final until we introduce in-game re-customization in a future release. CCP Fallout

If someone can tell me how I can make my hair just as dark as my beard it is greatly appreciated, apparently my beard can be of the desired color, but not the hair on my head.

I haven't had much play with this expansion yet, but Here's my initial feedback.
First thing I noticed was a pleasant surprise. When I checked my PI colonies, I was expecting to find my running extractors to be removed even though they would normally still run for some time after the deployment of the patch. But I saw you left them there, and still running. Thumbs up for that! It would be nice if I had the comfort of knowing this in advance though.
I was looking forward to using the beta features too, but I'm patient. If they were too buggy than I guess I'm not too sad about that.
Now, the Character creator. I've been able to sculpt my character to my liking. Not perfect, but 9/10. Of course I'm still looking forward to tattoos and more clothes and (long!) hairstyles, but I can wait. It would be nice to be able to pick things from other races styles though. I can see why you want each race to be distinguishable from eachother, but capsuleers can afford to shop out-of-empire. Just mark items as Gallentean etc. or give each race a seperate menu. That way people can still look Amarr etc. if they want to, but can still wear that awesome looking caldari jacket. The sculpting would be a bit easier if the character would remain still if you hovered your mouse over it. I also think that the colourmenu+slider dissappear too quickly. I can imagine someone not noticing it at all. I think it would be nice if the character's head was not focused on the camera as much when you turn his body sideways in sculpt mode. And when you take your portrait, I accidently tilted my body so I looked up/down on it but couldn't figure out how for some time. and the help didn't provide useful info. I finally figured it out that you could do it by leftclick dragging to the side of the character. Some previews of body modification (eye shade, lip colour among them) looked identical to me, and I only figured out the difference when I set the settings to max, uhm, visibility or density or something so I would suggest that the default is set to max. And in some positions it's really hard to tilt the head ( the "<->" thing, not the "+" one).

My feedback is that I don't like the new portraits. I don't like them at all. And you can't even tell who's an Amarr or who is Gallente or who is Caldari just by looking at them anymore. It's like all races have suddenly become one homogeneous mess and that aspect of Eve has been lost.
Plus they are dull and uninspiring. The futuristic feel has been lost as well. And everyone's wearing the same lame looking glasses! Ugh.
Can we back out of this bad decision? Please?
ps. wtb my old portraits back

I do not now about other race characters but, I was given 4 shades of carcassion color. so i have pale white, white, white with a light tan and then white with some reddish tan. I would not want to think this new system portrays limitation with what color your character can be. in short are there only white people as characters in the amarr empire? Seriously, I know the char look is not important at all :P, but when you create a new char you have the option of scrapping it if things are not to your liking after you hit "save".
With old chars that's just not possible and already I hear people complaining that "Gee, I thought I could choose a portrait afterwards" or similar stuff.
CCP, fix it so a warning is displayed when hitting save saying: "Are you SURE this is what you want to look like for the rest of eternity in Eve?"
-zil
^THIS!^
"Save" implies: save your progress. "Done" = you are done+ add "Are you sure this is how you want your character to look?"
I hope you guys plan on adding a lot more stuff as suggested AND then give us the free ability over a set timeframe (another month), to update/fix our characters! This needs to happen or you will have a lot of peaved people. Quality service is part of your dedication to us... Right?

You need a new CPU. SSE2 are a type of instruction format that the computer uses to understand things. Since an update that CCP recently received for their servers included an unknown element that removed the SSE2 instruction and updated it with a newer form of instruction without CCP realizing it. It had the misfortune to render people with older machines like P3's and older unable to play eve. If you update the cpu or your system you should be able to run it. Assuming you get a client patch that works.....I just spent 6 hrs for a non working patch. Probably CCP's revenge for my brash post about how I felt about this patch....Feelings that haven't subsided yet btw.
Also CCP has posted a link for that problem you are experiencing. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

There are a lot of portraits that look great. I think a lot of this hype about the character creator is caused by people that despise change or cant get their character to look the same as it did before the update. Just like I got serious issues with unexpected sudden drops is ship bonuses and resist. Especially when I do missions or mine. Mixed feelings for Incursion
The character creator feels unfinished, but I see a lot of potential. Too few options for clothes and hairstyles (and no black hair for Deteis!) make people look like clones of each other. Furthermore my computer had severe problems with the carbon graphics, click, wait 3 seconds to see what happened and then click again to correct a mistake is not fun. BUT if one really takes an hour or two to create a good character picture it pays off. Some look truly awesome and I'd love to see them walking in stations. At the moment it's a nice feature with a lot of potential, but too rushed.
Planetary interaction overhaul is great! After testing the old system for some time I decided not to bother with it again, but with this update PI actually became FUN! Setting up a planet for perfect efficiency isn't easy and requires thought and time, the programs are very dynamic and fit into any time schedule for both casual and 24/7 players. I think I'll maintain some planet production, not for the profit, but just for fun. A real life friend decided to resubscribe for Incursion and has a great time getting some ISK again with PI.
Didn't play an Incursion yet, but the concept is a great one and adds what EVE lacked the most until now: real group PVE where playing with a group pays off more than playing alone.
Last but not least, the interface changes. Shortcuts are great and make the game so much better. No more dying because one has to deal with like 5 sub-menus just to have the goddamn pod warp to a safe place, but a simple s+click. Navigation for autopilot is nice eye-candy too.
All in all a good update, but please take your time to make excellent ones!

Until Verizon gets off its dead ass and ofers better internet connections I don't see my self doing PvP stuff anytime soon. ATM all I can do is mission, mine, build or explore. Maybe a couple other careers. Unfortunately PvP isn't one of them and I think that it is b.s. that CCP didn't recognize that some of their clients might not have the ability to obtain a good connection suitable for PVP and thus have no desire to get involved in that aspect of the game as they don't see it too advantageous to wantonly throw a ship away and spend the next several weeks replacing it.
So as a result to my situation I limit myself to doing missions and other things the game offered up. I got mixed feelings about this patch. So much so that I already canceled both my accounts so that if this game no longer works out for me I wont waste another months fee.
What should have been thought of was the above situation and kept certain areas free from this incursion effects and let it nerf effect occur to those with in the local area that the incursion is at. regardless if its at a station or a belt.
Not all people are care bears. Some people have genuine reasons for not going where angels fear to tread. Hope this issue gets addressed soon. There has to be some give and take for this kind of situation. As the only option I got is to simply log for a few hours when an incursion happens.....ATM I am of the opinion that CCP decided to aim for a particular demographic vice keeping a wide variety of things available for everyone.
BTW if someone comes up with the brain storming idea of moving so I can PvP. I say give me the money or get the fracken banks to sell the foreclosed homes they are sitting on and I might do just that.....unfortunately that is not an option that is available. I got 2 choices. Satellite or 56k. Oh last night I may as well have been on dial up. As The client was d/l at a speed of......56k. It took me 6 hrs to obtain a non-working patch. I hope CCP thinks about this situation and implement a few changes to this patch.....

As I expected Incarna character creation is pathetic in the content for hair, cloths, and customization. Perhaps customization will be addressed with body shops but it will cost you via microtransactions and all the content for hair/cloths will as well.
I wanted to believe that those saying 'there will be more content(options_ when it is released' were right but they weren't. We have around 3-4 types of shoes/shirts/pants/jackets each with 2-3 color schemes and that is it. You can't even color them yourself we are limited to the 2-3 color choices someone else made for 1 out of 3 or 4 types of a thing.
Coloring in general is pretty lame, limited options are abound in this creator and of course it can all be augmented but will likely be only available as a microtransaction because afterall they are 'vanity items'. You'd think with the limited options presented in this release CCP wouldn't feel the need to limit it even further like by not letting us paint our clothes however we wanted etc, but nope can't even do that to the free stuff we all share.
Options like scarring, aging, freckles, are pathetic, you have sliders that move but only have 4 settings, off 1, 2, 3. Why bother putting a slider there if the only choices are 1-4, you can't have 1.5 or 3.7 so what is the point?
I played with the CC on sisi weeks ago and all this release did was fill in the holes of most of the WIP products and toss in a few, clothing options. And this is the release where you are going to force everyone to make a new avatar, ie it should be just about 100% complete except for stuff you couldn't do like tattoos. Which means you have no problem giving us pathetic options because you want to make money off us not wanting to be clones of a few hundred characters, wearing the same clothes.

Edited by: Terianna Eri on 19/01/2011 20:49:50 Feedback: New shortcuts: A++ on execution. Sorting into categories is a nice touch. Would be nice if you could select multiple entries to clear them all at once, but this is not a big issue. Will take some time to get used to all of them but I won't fault you guys for it
Especially like the "unlock target" and "change to next locked target" commands; a shortcut for unlock target was definitely lacking and something I've been hoping for for a long time.
Misc: stop rearranging the position of things on the right click menu, and for the love of god if you must change it, let us change it too. "DOCK" does not go at the bottom of the menu when you right-click on a station.
Character Creator: The good: Makeup and eyes are pretty well-done.
The bad: 1) Unless you make a hugely stereotypical character it's almost impossible to determine what race someone is by the portrait. Diversity in EVE has suffered because of this. Faces are too similar. 2) There's only 3-4 different models for any given type of clothing for a given race. The other options are pallet swaps and even then some of those are pointless - for example shirts #1 and #3 for amarr khanid females (the white shirt with the gold script) are identical as far as I can tell and even if not, they're very similar. Ditto boots. 2a) This could be helped infinity much by giving us a color slider for primary/secondary/tertiary (where applicable) colors on the clothing, like we have for, uh, everything else. Yes some people will make bright ugly color combinations but given that it's already possible to make a stupid character if one wants to I don't really see the problem. 2b) Sometimes when you change clothing, you see that parts of the clothing load separately, and it would be really cool to actually combine different parts of clothes, or leave parts out, or whatever. F.ex, being able to turn off the sleeves on some of the outer jackets (the one I'm wearing right now specifically) would be awesome. 3) Hair: GIVE LENGTH SLIDER PLZ. And the ability to pose the hair or even cut off parts of it. More hairstyles would be nice too. 4) Yes, I know it's coming, but seriously, jewelry / racial deco / tattoos / glasses / scars are all seriously lacking. 5) Ability to get the same lighting in the "portrait" section as you have in the "customize" section. Teri looked hot as hell in the former but I couldn't get the same lighting in the latter and shadows ruined a lot of things 6) Ability to, when saving to one of the 4 "slots" before picking your final portrait, RETURN THE SAVED ONE TO THE FULL MODE SO THAT YOU CAN GET A BETTER VIEW/UPDATE IT. This is a really important one. 7) Character thumbnail doesn't match full-size image. Lighting expecially is much darker on the thumbnail. 8) If you move to low-quality mode (because of HAIR PHYSICS), lighting options don't work in portrait mode sometimes (specifically intensity and color can't be changed). 9) I don't need 7 preset options for light sources. Clearly the technology is there, why don't you let us put on light sources ourselves? ________________

There is no proof that all the families are white. their are 5 families besides the emperor who help govern the amarr empire so lets have a bit more diversity in skin color. While i did not say i wanted "purple skin like an elf, or metal strips intertwined with sinew like a warforged" as a color as that is not a human color. one thing is clear on this planet called earth we do have different races with different skin colors. so dont be to ignorant when it comes to color in a world of humans who are not all white. My opinion about the patch has been said by hundrets of others before (PI - thanks for not be able to produce T3 anymore, CC - thanks for cloning 500k players), so i really want to get a feedback from CCP, no matter what, just a statement about hundrets of upset players - and what is going to calm them down.
