Originally by: kongking wang what would make it good is make roids permanant with no specific makeup or density of ore. create a survey ship for miners and remove ships scanners except for this ship and specific ore ships(orca/rorq).
with no ability to see what a roid is made off this means simple point and mine is now obsolite especially for a macroer as he cant just macro target next roid. the roids are just lifeless rocks.
this new survey vessel is now a must for any miner. without it you cannot mine. you fly to an asteroid belt and scan each individual roid for the right quantities and makup. once found you have a new module which creates 1 script (none tradable). rorq and orca can prduce multiple copys of scripts to aid in operations) these scripts show the exact locations of the roids ore. you then mount your mining vessel and load the script into you new mining computer module. when you fly back to the roid you can now select which ore you want to mine on that asteroid.
now you have to scan/change ships/selct ore, type/density/quantity and roid size. change scripts/crystals. you have to also be sure to target your surveyed roid too.
this has to make macroing alot harder or at the very least make it far less productive.
another idea would be to add heat to mining.like overheating a module but reverse for mining lasers. as soon as you turn on a mining laser it starts to heat up. to avoid over heating you need to constantly monitor it and activate heat disipation modules at the right times so to maintain a peak ballance on laser heat. for a macroer this would be hard as the peak is a visable fluctuating display and not a number or a fixed position.
i believe these changes would make mining alot less macroable and more fun/dificult.
to not affact noobs or bankrupt players too much mining lasers (not strips) can blind mine basic ore only from any roid. this should allow for people to profit and if macroers abuse it then they get poor yields anyway so not a big deal
+1 to this idea, I like it as it is relatively simple.

its simple, before you can activate the mining mod. you need to type in a capha code. the anying little ones on every web page.
will fix the macro problem in eve.

Perma ban macro users. Delete their account. Block their computer code. Force them to make another account each time they are caught with no refund from the last. And later monitor the ip and watch for macroing. If macroing ban them again. Rinse repeat.
The mining now is fine and would be profitable if bots were not selling all of their minerals. Sure it is boring. But you chose the profession. I know some that love to mine and like it how it is. Ban them ban them ban them.

I know I'm gonna get smacked with a trout for saying this, but I support the idea of a Punkbuster-type security program bundled with EVE. All Punkbuster does is scan active processes for known cheats and hacks. It is not a keylogger, it does not upload anything to anybody, it simply monitors anything that might interface with the game client. Works wonders for FPS and RTS games, so what's wrong with using it for EVE? ----------------------------------- You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

It's a great idea, and I really enjoy the idea of scannin roids for better yield. However I could see it hurting the newbs or Solo miners in the game...remember there are a ton of people who enjoy mining alone for their income, should they be punished in order to knock down the botters a peg?
Remember, at the top of this forum is a sticky about balance...at what point does security outweigh liberty? (figuratively speaking)

when i started as a miner, i was point and click and wait for my hold to fill.. really thats all i thought mining was till it quickly got boring and i sougth out better ways to mine. to my dismay it was more the same just in bigger ships with bigger lasers. now i understrand some people mine for money and some because they are noobs. in the case of the noob its mining lasers and by the time they get bored they can go onto stripminers.with regular miners they are already on strips. my suggestion complicates the job for a regular miner while keeping it prey much the same for a noob. it should offer a big jump in skill. for the regular miner out there they are in strips already so just have to re learn the job where as a noob can learn basics by "BLIND MINING" like everyone else but choose to jump into the more complicated way of working should they want to advance.
actually now i think about it nothing stops both ways of working. keep normal way but at extreme reduced spawn ammount of roids. replace say 98% with the new permaroids. noobs can mine and bankrupt players can mine. macroers have now a 98% drop in what they can mine. also this makes macroers easy to spot due to mining out normal roids in hulks because they can be macroed and leaving the higher yield perma roids alone.
might offer a nice ballance actually

Would this solve the problem with bots/macros? Why isnt CCP using this while other MMO's do it. Poker sites use this too I guess.
Would this be just a "simple" Client update?

It actually has very little to do with the client itself. Take Quake 4 for instance, which uses Punkbuster. When you load Quake 4 and attempt to log into a public server, Punkbuster loads up in the background and begins to monitor for any programs, macros, cheats, bots, hacks, etc...that are known to interfere with the game. If you attempt to disable Punkbuster, the Quake 4 client detects this and refuses to connect to the server.
With EVE it would be the same thing. Load the client, log in to the game, Punkbuster loads up and begins to monitor processes and the integrity of the EVE client itself. Any problems and your connection attempt will be rejected.
As for why EVE doesn't do this, it's a good question. Most major MMOs do it, and although naturally it doesn't totally eliminate bots, it does get rid of the most blatant examples. With EVE all we need is to get rid of a majority of the bots and let Evil PiratesÖ take care of the rest. ----------------------------------- You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

Okay but lets take this to another level. If found using a bot, macro, or some kind of cheat (monkeysphere) you are permanently banned from eve on that account. Your character is deleted as well as the records. This MMO is not like Quake or Battlefield 2. This effects thousands of players every time a bot starts. In other games you might be effecting one-hundred or so people. Make the punishment suit the crime. Should be retroactive for those caught cheating in the past.

Lets stay on track people!
Botters will adapt to anti bot securitys. It's not difficult for a experianced google user to find out how to change the name of a process, to some randome name undectable by anti bot programs.
My goal here isn't to turn into another Bot rageing thread...post that to where it belongs in the 100 other threads about how people hate bots.
I'm calling for a new way to mine. A way that gives the advantage back to the people who chose to mine as a profession. I'm calling for an interactive sequence of steps that are based on peoples abilities, and therefore unpredictable to bots. I dont think macros can be stopped, simply becuase there will always be scam artists trying to make easy money...put mining back into the hands of miners!

I'm sorry but I must disagree. The very name you chose for this topic "Fix Mining...Don't stop macros, outsmart them", implies a change to mining in order to defeat macros. Thus, discussing alternative methods such as Punkbuster is quite on topic. Plus, we're not exactly raging...yet.
You are correct, however, in that clever cheaters will always look for ways to outsmart Punkbuster...which is why Punkbuster is always updated. It's not a one-shot deal, they're constantly updating the software to be more effective similar to an antivirus program.
While I'm not saying your ideas suck...quite the contrary I agree that being more interactive might be fun, stopping botters doesn't have to automatically involve a complete reboot of the mining system. ----------------------------------- You will be assimilated...bunghole! |

.....mmmmmeeeeeyyyaaaaa ok you got me on that one.
Honestly I started this thread becuase I want a better mining system, and I did notice from many other threads that macros (specifically macro miners) are a hot subject. I'm all for knocking two birds out w/ one stone. On that note, at any point does CCP actually read these threads? Do I have to reach a magical number of views for popularity to get noticed? I'd love to hear from a CCP Dev on this subject, at least to know if any kind of mining re-vamp was in the works/plans/considered.
at any rate, thanks for supporting my ideas guys. It'd be awesome if we had a hand in changing something in EVE

Yea, the problem really is proving they are macros w/ out stepping on the people that arn't. I don't think being afk or semi-afk while mining is bad. If you wanna watch TV or read while you mine, it souldn't be punished. gankers are enough to worry about lol.
So, in my head, the only other way to cambat it is to make mining to difficult for a program to do. and at the same time, miners right now don't make that good of a wage.
Think of real life, if you work in a mine or and oil field...its hard work, you get dirty, but you get paid ALOT. Eve should reflect that!

Install whatever spyware they want. I don't think it is draconian to remove those making the game harder for the rest of us. It is not draconian to enforce the rules. I pod killed multiple people on the test server. I was banned for months. Someone runs a macro/bot/cheatware on tranquility they get banned forever. Not so much to ask for that they make the rules work. It seems in the days of instant gratification there are those that wish for the rules to be bent and sometimes wrote off so they can have their fun. This should come to an end. Ban them. Ban them all. And start doing it now.

I hate to say it but as there are so many things that CCP could try to do, including using the BanHammer, and stil they do not. It makes me wonder if they really care if macro's are in the game.
Any thread that gets posted is filled with calls to put a stop to it and yet they do not even permenantly ban abusers? Seriously doesn't that fact imply that CCP is giving this issue a blind eye?

That appears to be the case. They seem to be afraid to post in any of these threads with what they are going to do and when they are going to do it. They know that what they say will be thrown in their face again and again until they hold to what they said they would do.
Ban macro users. Ban bot users. Ban those that use cheats. (for instance the delayed local cheat) And start doing it now. Use whatever ware you wish to find those doing it. Add it to the EULA. If people want to continue to play then they will submit. The amount of users you lose who are actually following the rules are few. The bot users will stop. Or lose their account forever. Those who have been caught in the past will need to be removed. Examples must be made.

I don't mine so if I'm off base, excuse me, but do normal players mine 23.5/7? It would seem to me that if CCP found people mining around the clock, 7 days a week, they might take a closer look at those guys. They may be legitimate miners for sure, but if what I've read is true, most bots are on from dt to dt, no?

Just checked their forums. They do know that 23/7 mining could be detected so they just mine 12-18 hours. They also say that CCP is not doing anything against them. They say bots macros do stabilize the market.
If we dont take this problem to the surface and safe our game we will loose it someday to the macros.
Problem is that many "normal" players who are in big alliances do have aseconda ccount which is abot/macro to finance their PVP

Let's stand back for a second, and look at the situation. We know a few things to be 100% true: 1) Mining bots are a real thing 2) CCP hasn't delt with it as much as people want them to (keep in mind, if you're caught, you get banned...the ban from what I hear doesn't last more then a week or so...wich is equivlent to a spanking from mom and dad CCP).
now think logically, why does CCP approach this subject without uing the ban hammer? Logically it means that either they don't consider it a problem, or it would hurt their business...keep in mind, Bots pay for their account too, and also using harsh applications of the rules might hurt more then just bot users.
Ya see, we've drifted from the idea of "make it harder for bots" to "Ban them all".
I know the end result will be the same, but the subtle difference in ideas is what I'm trying to stress.
I stated earlier that, without a 'ban all' mode, CCP won't be able to stop bots. And I'm not saying that half of the people in Eve wouldn't mind a ban all action. This thread isn't about trying to ban bots...there's plenty of other threads for that.
I want this thread to be geared more twords eleminating the need for bots in the mining industry. As well as making a mining career fun. eve resembles a real world market, and as such the level of gameplay should allow people to find a niche in mining, just as they would in a real world environment.
Lets look at the "astroid vein" idea. If mining these veins required two people or more (resulting in more minerals) would that stop bots? Probably not. Would it level the playing field a little? Most likely.
In short, with respect twords others oponions, I really don't wanna hear new ideas about how to ban bots here. bot scanning programs, account monitoring, CCP intervention etc...belongs in their respective threads. I want to read ways on how to make mining better.
Again, no offense, but stop posting "use punkbuster" or "ccp monitor accounts" replys to this thread. Post relivant to the Title. "Fix mining, don't stop macros...out smart them"....Fix mining, it's old and out-dated.
