A short while ago, I ran another test to verify what I stated in post # 56.
This time the test subject was a static D845 in a C3. But, I did it slightly differently.
After dropping a probe, I waited for the sig to change. Once that happened, I approached the wormhole, tried to jump though one time, received the error message, and did a scan to identify the new sig. I repeated this process four more times.
In post 56, I did the test in two groups; this time I did each test individually.
This is most definitely reproducible.

p.s. this most assuredly could be fun, as stated by another poster

Quick question, as I haven't done it very often. When collapsing a WH, when I make my last jump through to kill it, I don't emerge in the location where the WH would have been, but instead I am placed at the point of my last session change, which is next to the Ship Maintenance Array.
Another time, we had a couple of Gilas camp one of two k162's we had, dropped a bubble and all that good stuff. I was outside at the time, as I had botched the collapse of the other k162. I rounded up a few people to have some fun, and figured we might be able to collapse the k162 the Gilas were sitting on when the three of us jumped in. So we jump through, get the 'WH has collapsed' message, and expect to find the Gilas sitting there, but instead, there's nothing.
Normal operation or are these also bugs? I seem to remember collapsing them before and not being tossed into random areas of space.
Once I jumped from w-space to lowsec and the WH collapsed - but I appeared at a gate in the lowsec system, instead of where the HW had been.
In more baffling news, my wormhole system has suddenly spawned an extra static. It now has a Y683, as well as the usual A239 and D382. This isn't supposed to happen.

casual wormholes can spawn sometimes, it may not related to the bug at all. ---------------- ** Wormhole Trading ** |

I was under the impression that a Y683 had to be a static, rather than just a random-spawning WH. I guess I'll find out if it respawns when it collapses.

It has happened twice in my C2 over the past year or so that I had double statics. 2 B274's and a few months later 2 Y683's. The first time I saw it was a wth???? moment; 2nd time I just attributed it to the random factor. Both occurred well before Incursion.
Perhaps CCP fed the hamster controlling the random wormhole generator a bacon-wrapped fillet mignon those evenings???

In my humble C-1 we've had absolutely ZERO profession signatures since the patch/upgrade/mash of bugged code! NO Radar, Ladar, Gravimetric or Magnemetric signatures AT ALL! ZIP, NADA, NONE, NIL, we are without all sigs except the 2 lowest end anomalies and 1 wormhole. There has been no "top" level anomalies.. In our case... "The Line" No matter how many anomalies are run.. nothing has changed since the patch. ;-(

Also confirming that this is repeatable.
We spawned an additional 3 static N766s out of our C4 by camping the EOL connection out.
I've petitioned and linked this thread, just to be certain CCP has seen it.

Edited by: Malkev on 01/03/2011 21:08:15 Checking back in to confirm.
Camped the EOL WH, then attempted to jump through after it had "collapsed". This yielded one new static WH per failed jump attempt.
Tested this in a neighboring C1 that had only two sigs when I warped in, the K162 from our WH and their EOL N110 static.
Currently looking at 29 N110's, which corresponds with the 28 failed jump attempts (one new static & 28 "failspawns"), and our K162.
Kind of curious as to what the limit is, or if there even is one. Should I keep going?

Thanks for both your patience and your help, everyone. We have what we think is a fix, which should be making it out to TQ sometime early next week (Tuesday, I'm told).

I envy the people who fix these things sometimes.
I grew up as the son of a clockmaker and I've inherited his love of seeing a problem and having to dismantle something (occassionally over and over again) to discover the cause and the solution of it.
Can't help but think that digging out the fix for that kinda problem must be a lot of fun.

Didn't get fixed with today's patch, bug is still in effect. --

Edited by: Tas Nok on 09/03/2011 10:14:14 Cannot yet confirm that the issue of WH not despawning correctly then spawning lots of twins is gone (petitioned several times) but did run into a new headache today (after Patch 1.3)... Currently in a C2 which has a static C2... after scanning 7 deep... EACH hole is in the SAME region, same statics, incoming and outgoing
Its as if my region of W-space has been quarantined and I'm only allowed to see my fellow C2 dwellers... I usually only have to go 2 deep to find a HS or Dangerous hole... today was very disappointing and disconcerting.
Really hoping this is a new (soon to be fixed)bug or a random fluke...

Same thing here, at approximatively 13h00 (GMT) today, an allymate pop out +20 wh (U210) leading all around the empire, just by trying to jump through our static in eol status.
Can you now rename my WH to "Paris" plz ?

Putting on your headphones, marking yourself as busy in MSN and digging away at problems like these can indeed be a lot of fun. However this one is rather frustrating since it's proving to be very elusive, with no errors in the logs and difficulty reproducing the issue in a dev environment . As you've noticed the fix wasn't really a fix, but we're on the shovels and threating this as a high priority issue.

That is surprising. Since the issue is easily and 100% reproducible on TQ that suggests that the cause lies in the difference between TQ and your dev environment.
Let us know if we can be of any assistance to help you reproduce it or giving you the exact times of when we spawned wormholes using this bug so you can track it down in the logs, etc.
PS: Or just search for these types of log messages:

Thank you, as it turned out I was just missing an important condition in the repro steps. I can't really tell you what it was because it would be too embarrassing . I expect order to be restored in the next few days.

Hehe, **** happens, glad you figured it out.
We just had a possibly related bug: We collapsed a wormhole (by mass), but the signature did not go away. When you probe it the 100% hit is type "Unknown", Scan group "Cosmic Signature", Type "Unknown". When you warp there, you find nothing. --

Catari, i dont think that bug occurs from mass only, the other day we had two of these "cloaking wormholes" in our system, and to my knowledge, none of them were collapsed by mass.

Indeed, the reproducible case that I have seen is only with time expired wormholes. I will continue investigating and monitor the symptoms, if there are problems occurring with mass collapsed wormholes then that is a separate issue.

No, sorry if I was unclear, the reproducible bug that this thread is about indeed only applies to time expired wormholes.
We did however never experience the second bug I described before (Kacer Xenro might have more experience with it), i.e. a wormhole signature staying around (albeit named "Unknown" instead of "Unstable Wormhole") after it has collapsed AND disappeared from visible space. Since this is also a bug in the despawning mechanic I decided to post it here since it it might be related the first bug. In any case you are possibly just looking at the relevant code anyway. I have no reproduction steps at all, unfortunately, but Kacer Xenro's post above implies that it might be happening more often.
PS: Just like the first bug, the second bug also results in the signature disappearing over DT. --

I'm afraid the risks are too high, the negative-mass exotic matter could at any moment overwhelm the universe and cause it to vanish in a poof. Hence the high priority assigned to the issue.

Has anyone verified that this 'bug' has been fixed? I am still running into more 'swiss cheese' WH's during the last two weeks than I am 'normal' ones with only one or two additional WH sigs beyond the one I came in through.

What i really want to do is find a c2 or higher with a lowsec static and residents, and just repeatedly open new statics... I bet the residents will be thrilled when pirates come pouring in... or do it with a c5 or a c6 and watch capitals come pouring in!!! Time-critical wormholes despawn even if someone remains on grid (tested with Incursion 1.4.2). So it appears to be fixed.
