I decided to specialize in flying the Claw to start out... my question is a bit more general than setups:
Is it even worth flying an inty if I'm in a pirate/merc/mostly-pvp-oriented corp? What do people mostly fly nowadays, and will my Claw be a factor in any fight? |

Edited by: Shintoko Akahoshi on 10/11/2005 22:29:17 Yep, it's still completely viable.
Go play with one on Sisi for a bit. They are tremendously effective interceptors with the flexibility to use in tanked-short or fast-long range setups. I can fly all interceptors, I've used all, and the Claw remains my favorite for raw damage.
For the general "is it worth flying inties" question, they are very useful. For solo pvp, it's nice to have something that can control the fight (i.e.: you decide if you're going to engage, using your superior speed and sig radius). For group pvp, interceptors are the best tacklers you'll find. If you can't scramble something, after all, you probably can't kill it.

Plate claw vs rocket crow, its so close setup-wise that it goes down to the piloting.

Originally by: Dampfschlaghammer Like most people here I dont have real problems with Crows, but I often get owned by Taranis pilots.
Which strategy is best against them? Going for 1000m orbits with autocannons + web, or going for 13km mwd orbitting with artilleries?
And which ammo is probably suited best for long range fighting in this case? (I take it that for short range you want to use emp most of the time anyways)
If it's AC Claw agianst blasterranis, I'd try to stay at opt+falloff. The ranis shouldn't be hitting very much at that range. If he changes ammo (unlikely), I'd go in close and outdamage him. I'd prolly go with 1 emp, 2 fusion and phalanx to chew thru his plate (if any) as fast as possible.

What do you guys think about Railguns on a claw? You could stay further out if need-be.

Hmm,
I'm liking this thread - I got a nice short range setup now with 3 x 200mm auto IIs and a rocket launcher.
However I'd like a second option for long range scrambling on fleet battles along with doing a token amount of damage whilst the big boomers are doing the main work
I have been trying 2 x 250mm arty II's 2 x std launcher, mwd and fleeting 20km scram in mid
The low slots is where I fall over, coz I'm spanked for cpu by the time I get here, cap relays, tracking mods, damage mods all need more cpu than I got...weapon upgrades 5 is training right now, and will help a bit - gonna do A.W.U. as well, but grid is not so much my problem here....
Any ideas?

Run 280IIs 250s don't really work as well on a claw, 3 280s and a missle launcher. . And turn off your MWD once you are orbiting

won't even heavy drones catch up to you then?
It's hard to deal damage and still stay at enough speed to avoid damage yourself... at least that's what I've found.
Anyone have a solution to this?

I wouldn't put any armor plate onto an Interceptor; that just defeats the purpose, which is speed. A plate will slow you down and make you easier to hit. In an Interceptor, if you're taking damage, you're doing something wrong. The Cap relay is much more useful. If you want to fit something else besides a relay in low, throw on a damage mod.

Drunk, I tend to like your setups, Is there any feasible way to fit a long range Claw, which can do damage as well as not being hit? Or should I just bite the bullet and train for a crusader?

the general consensus is not to mix a sheild and armour tank. pick one or the other. i would take out the sh/booster put in a web or scrambler. -----------------------------------------------

Is there still a viable 280II Claw setup for anti-inty work?

If you really want to:
* 3 280mm t2 * named mwd, named disruptor * MAPC, small rep t2, cap relay, either another cap relay, either a nanofiber. (depending on navigation and cap skills).

from what i remember if you fit a claw out for speed and high damage 280IIs (ie gyros if you can) then there isnt any other inty that can really beat you .. though this was before they boosted plates and increased all ships hitpoints (which everybody seems to have forgotten)

claw + 280mm II is like lottery.... if you manage to get wrecking hit... byby... It maybe doesn't have dps but it has some strange ability to hurt if it hits.

actually after rmr i prefer crusader over taranis. Though i think taranis is better at killing intys, crusader rocks at killing AFs, as only minmater get resistances and other simply think that 60% is enough:)

Using arties on a claw isn't working for me very well.
Loads of times you loose your lock because of the tiny targetting range, so i fit sensor booster to find out that without a webber i am dead within 10 seconds to any close range inty, or i drop the MWD to find out that even with a webber i am too slow to kill a Taranis in time.
In small groups it's fun when only fitting a sensor booster and MWD because you can play around a bit, since there's a fair chance you are the fastest inty anyway.

claw is awesome autocannons are really cool because when you mwd-approach a target with 4000+ you usually bump 4-5km away.. a blasterranis has to get into a very tight orbit to deal the dmg, while with autocannons you already hit very well at that range, so nail the ranis with a good webber at 4km and pop it whilst taking minimal dmg.
i won loads of 1:1s with my claw. the closest i was to death was about 20% armor agaist a t2 rocket launcher closerange crow with a 400 plate.

Drop the shield booster and put a web there, and that setup should be really good.

I dont understand, everything has changed since i went away. I used to use 125mm II's and atm im trying to fit them but its pretty limited. Atm im using :
3x 125 II's No launcher (urgh)
MWD II webber
400mm named N-type kinetic power relay power diag
I need some help, anyone wish to assist? Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

125mm autos or rails? also if you have grid issues ditch the pdu for an mapc.
also, if theyre autos then ditch the stnd launcher for either a nos or a rocket.
if you are using the rails, then stopp fitting rails to the claw.
