Minmatar frigate 5 will be finished soon and i have a feeling i will love the claw since i am such a fan of the rifter. I would like to know if anyone has any useful tips for the Claws use especially when fitting. I have had some ideas, with long range/short range. They are (at a glance they will fit although cant be sure):
3x 200mm Autocannon II / 3x 280mm II 1x Named Standard Launcher
1x MWD II 1x Fleeting Propulsion / Named 20km Scrambler
1x Micro aux 1x 400mm rolled tungsten / Cap relay 2x relay
Anyway, i need all the help i can get. I have experience with long range frigate/cruiser killing in my crusader so perhaps i would prefer a short range variant. Cheers, bob Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

I wouldn't put any armor plate onto an Interceptor; that just defeats the purpose, which is speed. A plate will slow you down and make you easier to hit. In an Interceptor, if you're taking damage, you're doing something wrong. The Cap relay is much more useful. If you want to fit something else besides a relay in low, throw on a damage mod.

Edited by: Shevar2 on 24/01/2005 11:09:38 Sounds about right, you will need to drop the 400 plate if you want to use 280's and a 7.5 km scrambler or webber is generally better when you are using 200's. The rest it looks like a decent setup, you could also consider changing a cap relay for a deactivated rep if you are flying outside empire though, it's handy to repair between battles.

Like Hooj said.
3 250mm t2s Standard launcher
MWD 20k Scrambler
3 cap power relays 4relay if you dont ahve skills to run this forever or overdrive/nanofiber.
Just keep yourself out of web range and it'll do the trick.

First up - the claw is real tight on CPU. You can actually get better fittings on a rifter because of that.
Weaponary - what are you trying to hit? What range. Why use 25km light missiles when you are using autocannons with a top range of 6km? Rockets do a greater damage over time than lights. If your using a 7.5km scarmbler go for rockets.
Personally if you want a short range set up - 200mm emp (125mm have better tracking same range and I find do pretty much the same damage when RoF is introduced). You are using the additional fall-off as the range. I get 30-40 damage per second per gun. Unless you've sharpshooting 5, and trj analysis 5 - you'll need to swap this out when doing long range stuff with the auto's. Remember max range is optimal + fall-off.
Use named rocket launchers - you can get the RoF seriously insane with good skills. Have defneders in your cargo hold at all times. The defenders won't work very close up - as inside 2000m as launch and fire - you've already been hit. I personally rate 2 launchers as they give you the flexibility of range. If your webbed or facing a better knife fighter like a gallnete ship - you've then got an option they don't - stand off and pound them with rockets outside their range. Also 2 named rocket launchers launching defenders will keep all the missiles of you back - even cruise from a raven if you work at it and the force is with you that day. As for over confident kestral pilots using lights - they learn why the crow only has 3 missile slots and one gun slot.
Mids... mwd... depends on your skills check out the 1mn t2's... I've acceleration control 5 and have had a nice suprise. Basically unless its a duel I still wouldn't be confident without a 1mn mwd. Warp scrambler or web - depends what your doing. Frig duels I'd go web every time. PS - did they up the range? I thought webs were 7.5, they're 10km - am I just loosing it.
Low's. Its fragile - forget the plate - speed is your friend. Stick in as many cap things as you need (try power diags too if there are pg issues - kinda does both badly - but I like the shield bonus too). Go overdrives. Make the fastest ship go faster. Seriously. Go faster... I also occasionally use tracking or gyro's. Think I've one cap relay, overdrive, t2 gyro and at2 tracking thing in my lows right now.
The Minmatar ships are meant to be fast and hard hitting. I always try to go to the extreme with a ship set up, really working on what its good at - not fixing what its not so good at. Thats a tactical consideration of using it - and playing to its strength.

Hi, I'm your friend, the 150mm light autocannon. And this is my friend, the 400mm armor plate.
I don't really agree with the people who say you shouldn't armor up a Claw. It armors up really nicely, having a nice power core which you can dedicate mostly to armor if you fit low power weapons. For 2 mid slot interceptors, I prefer MWD and web, and just hope that I can kill my target before they warp out. With that in mind, I'll fit for maximum damage: 3 guns and a rocket launcher - the rocket launcher bumps your target around, which slows them going into warp, while 150mm autocannons have double the ammo capacity of 200mm's, which makes a difference if you're going up against larger ships.
The result is a ship that's very fast, very tough, and very hard to hit once you settle into that close, tight non-MWD orbit. I've taken out pretty much every type of interceptor, several kinds of assault frigates, cruisers and (once, before I had to flee reinforcements) nearly an assault cruiser with this ship.

Yes, but it has more in common with the rifter, just faster, tougher and with 2 more low slots.
And i'm a big fan of semi tanking the Claw, with a MAPC you can fit 400rt, a T2 armour rep (1002 armour with hull upgrades 4) and that leaves you a free slot for a hardener or something. Only downside is that you're pretty limited on Grid and CPU by this point, but 125t2's take like 1 grid/2 cpu (i think) to fit. Use named stuff to save CPU, arbalest or oe5200 rockets have equal CPU (something like 8.4 with weapon upgrades 4) and an X5 web uses 1 less than fleeting

Erucyll: Just running numbers through in head
Claw = 50 grid at lvl 5 engineering. MAP = 12.5 grid increase = 62.5 grid total
3x 280mm Howitzer II = 39 Grid 1x Limos Standard = 3 grid 1x MWD II = 15 grid 1x Disruptor = 1 grid = 58 grid used
Anyway, Electro, A claw can top 4000m/s with mwd II. If I wanted purely speed I would stay with my crusader, which is afaik 200-400m/s faster with mwd II. With the armour plate I would still be moving 3600m/s + which I believe is as fast as most interceptors. It just gives me a 1000+ total armour points. But I have just realized that a crow might be able to give me a hard time so long as it had a 90% webber also.
Anyway, thanks for the information on the rocket launchers. I just thought that I could fire with lights as soon as I got a lock then they would hit once I had a web, upping the DoT to perhaps more than a rocket launcher. Thanks for the information, I am very interested in the smaller autocannons at short range, might free up some CPU, allowing for Gyrostabilizer, making them more powerful than 200mm.
Please keep them coming.

just ran some numbers, 125mm gatling autocannon II seems to be only 11% worse on DoT and also saves a lot of CPU and Grid. the 150mm is around 5% worse on DoT, an option as well i suppose. Here's a fun set up.
3X150mm, Heavy launcher. MWD, Web 3 micro aux, co-pro2
Its very very funny to see the reaction in local when people look at thier kill mail and see a heavy missile as the weapon type.
I also like the 125mm/400mm plate set up a lot. Pair this with a kinetic membrane (tech 2 if you can) and your a crow's/taranises worst nightmare.
Currently I'm trying to fit out a gankaclaw. Thus far I have gotten 3 200mm and 2 damage mods on. With good skills and a co-pro it should be possible to fit out a third damage mod.

Best setup i can come up with at the moment:
3x 125mm Autocannon 1x Arbalest Rocket
1x MWD II 1x Fleeting Prop
1x 400mm Plate 1x BASIC REACTOR CONTROL 1x Gyrostab II 1x Relay
without the gyrostab and reactor control you have 50/50 grid, making it the most annoying situation ever, micro aux = too much CPU, so basically you have to skip a second relay, but i dont mind.
There are other setups that i have been suggested which sound awesome also, i will try them.
More suggestions please. Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

It uses 3 more CPU then an arbalest rocket launcher. The cap relay uses 6 less CPU then the Reactor Control.

Are we talking 5-10mil expensive or 50-100mil, if its the latter i feel sorry for the current state of afairs.
The problem is, these modules never get used in PvP because some carebear in Xetic space can chain BS rats in his apoc and never die, meaning he can pay whatever he wants for these modules because he will never lose them. ok i got my claw after 2 months. Come summer i`ll av trained the nice setups you recommend. Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on avoiding being hit in the meantime. Right now its like flying a barn door. Even with MWD 1 on i get hit by everything. Most i can deal with is a few crappy rats. I`ve trained evasive maneuvers 5 of course, but wot else can i do to avoid being hammered as soon as i get near anything? I cant even get near to anything tough cos they destroy me before i`m close. It does look pretty cool tho
Thanks for any tips

Pallendor, given time and SP your survivability will increase alot. The claw is not a ship for low-skilled pilots, in your position I would actually recommend a cruiser (stabber most likely), because they are just tougher, and don't need as much raw skill power to be effective.
I can solo 0.1 Angel spawns in my claw, it is a powerful ship, you just have to be as good as it is

Edited by: Lorth on 19/02/2005 21:59:35 Sure I'll give it a go.
Ok how to set up your claw.
First, look at the bonuses. Three of them effect turrets. Therefore fit as many turrets as you can, they are your main damage dealers. I see to many people fitting 2 turrets and 2 launchers.
Ok next, your mid slots. I'll assume your going to pvp with this so... You need the MWD, to out run missiles, and to get to your target before he warps. Now your remaining mid slot you can fit with either a web or a scrambler. Web if your in a group or are fighting people you know will fight back, scrambler as a defult choice.
Now you have your low slots. Theres a whole lot of good options here. And the lows tend to be what seperates a good set up from a bad one. You have the option of fitting out as a 'tank,' a damage dealer, or for speed, or in some cases a mix. The tank involves ushally a 400mm plate, and maybe a small armor repaier. The damage dealer fits a tracking mod and a damage mod. Speed, put some nanofibers in. I'll leave you to experiment with this.
Ok skills.
First, get you navagation skills up. Frigs in general are all about speed, its thier offence and defence in many cases. Aim for lv 4 in all nav skills and your doing good.
Now you need gunnery skills. Projectiles have bad tracking compared to thier counter parts, so motion prediction should be a priority. Also they tend to have large fall-offs which can be an advantage if you know how to use it, anouther skill to train. Also weapons upgrades is nice to have at a high level as the claw is short on cpu in many set ups. Theres also some 4 skills which directly affect your damage (if your using tech 2,) so train these up as well. In effect you'll want to start training up gunnery skills to high levels all of them, but I feel the ones have specifically mentioned are important.
A few other skills worth noteing. Spaceship command is rather nice to have trained up. The claw is heavy meaning its agility is rather low compared to other ships. It also has a very short lock range, so train long range targeting *your guns can hit further out then you can lock* Energy managment lv 4 will allow you to fit a micro auxillary power core, a great asset to frig pilots.
Hope that helps
EDIT: Do not get implants. Interceptors are primarly used for pvp. There are many ships that NPC better and for less cost then an inty. And your going to lose a lot of claws, face it. So your going to be podded sooner or later and lose some 400mill worth of implants in your head.

Claw was the only thing i had floating around at the place i was so i just threw in some modules and went to him. i didn't do much...just orbiting the rats at 2,5k with 700+ speed...didn't bother to switch on the AB because i wasn't taking any hits. might have been because of the 4 nanofibers in low slots though ;)
fitting was (remember, i just threw in what i had there...) hi: 3x 200mm II 1x standard missile launcher med: 1x 1MW AB 1x small shield booster Low: 4x various nanofibers
not a setup that i would use seriously though ;)

One problem with using autocannon on a Claw is that a Taranis or Crow will paste you at close range. Taranis with its shere blaster power; the Crows, with a web and rockets.
From what I have seen of the Claw, it's biggest advantage is the ability to keep speed and range on a target, if it wants too, and stay close if it doesn't.

Edited by: Lorth on 20/02/2005 06:50:08 Crows, are in all honestly the one frig I seem to have no problems with. That is assuming I have a web fitted. Maybe I havn't found a competent crow pilot recently, or my fighting style/fitting gives me a distinct advantage. Who knows?
Taranises I find difficult, simply because of the shear damage they inflict. Though they can be beaten, and beaten consitantly. However, I still get ready to warp my pop out when I see one more then anyother ship. I smart claw pilot(with autocannons) kills an average taranis pilot all the time though. And theres a lot of average and less then average taranis pilots out there simply because its the flavour of the month. That being said, a smart taranis pilot kills me more then I'll kill him.
Amar intys I find to be about equal. These are the ships I like fighting the best simply because all things being equal in skill points and pilot skills the fight goes either way. It comes down to a fast web, well manouved position etc.
EDIT: I was reading the first page again and saw Vampire Blade. I remember fighing her crow on the test server and not doing at all well. So I guess not all crow pilots die to claws.

Fit it with 4 cargo expanders, a 1 mn mwd and it becomes a good little agent runner. You can carry most things for agents and dont need bookmarks to get from a - b quickly. Don't knock it it's another use. Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make it's own judgements.

22.247x Damage mod.

it may seem like a ludicrous investment of equipment, but the whole point is that the individual little bonuses amount into one final salvo of death that likely caused the unfortunate taranis pilot to go 'WHAT!?'
Not counting the wreck, this sort of a machine can destroy anything lighter than an assault frigate in two volleys (around 5 seconds rof..) at the cost of heinously-expensive equipment, maxed skills and some second-generation gunslinger line implants

The cap on the claw is rather poor. Esentually I fit mine out to have enough cap to win a 1vs1 against a cruiser, so about 1 minute at the best of times. Assuming your well skilled, you can achieve that with no cap mods what so ever. Fit a relay if you need to.
As for the above set up, fit a standered missile launcher. Simply because a light missile will often catch an un webbed frig, a rocket never will.
Further, I personally don't like 250's when compared to 280's. You can ocastionally one volly a frig such as a vigil, if you get lucky. Also the added DOT and range is not somthing to be over looked. Though, artillarys are very hard to use. They require that you out manover your oppenent in order to avoid being webbed. Further, they do not have the best tracking, so hitting can be difficult at times, no matter your skills.

Edited by: dabster on 20/03/2005 11:33:27 Edited by: dabster on 20/03/2005 11:32:39 I have 2 basic setups that varies very little from time..or 3 maybe..
3*200mm II, rocket launcher MWD, Web small armor repair II, 200mm plate, 2*cap-relay (or was it a gyro II here..dont remember..)
2*280mm II, 2*std launcher MWD, 20km scrambler Overdrive, 3*cap-relay
The tank-setup can be altered quite a bit ofcourse, before Claw got its trackingbonus i used 150mm II instead, which made it easier to fit for example a 400mm plate, and/or an active kinetic hardener, gyro II... Also to some people saying "ditch the plate it slows you down to much!", sorry but guys, the Claw is faaaast anyway Preferably use nanofiber plates for a 5% speed-reduction over the 10% all other plates give.
edit; btw fitting 3*280mm is very possible, but damn it gimps your ship so hard it's not even funny ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

Originally by: Harry Voyager One problem with using autocannon on a Claw is that a Taranis or Crow will paste you at close range. Taranis with its shere blaster power; the Crows, with a web and rockets.
From what I have seen of the Claw, it's biggest advantage is the ability to keep speed and range on a target, if it wants too, and stay close if it doesn't.
Harry Voyager
I realise this is a old-ish reply but anyway... Crow is possibly the worst interceptor there is, against other interceptors (the Raptor may be even worse). In say...15 engagements with my Claw vs Crow i lost one Claw, Crow was using oversized AB and my back then poor skills made me miss too much. Actually we both died and had capsules on our killmails Taranis, autocannons have a better range than blasters so you web FAST when he reaches 10km and try to maintain distance (Claw will be faster). Pop goes the 'ranis. ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

Well I tried the sugested setup, but am a little concerned without any defence. IN any event this is what I am trying now
3x250 II 1xstandard launcher
1xmwd 1xwarp scran str=1
2xcap relay 1xtrackin enhancer 1x50mm nanofiber plate or nanofiber structure
I had 3 cap relays on, but I can run for a long time with 2, so I put on the small plate for the heck of it. not much cpu for anything else. I wonder if a nanofiber wouldnt be better. Id go faster and orbit faster makin me harder to hit. of course also makin it harder for me to hit as well. I should be cool though with the trackin bonus. I may try that. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Damn old posts.
Tracking is the key element to me. I used 2 Tracking Mods and still got 120+ damage for criticals. I listed a setup for Gryo II, but later switched to 2 tracking enhancers to boost my range on my autocannons as well never miss. The damage ave on my autocannons rose from using a Gyro as well. Whenever I switch to 250 II's, I miss so much more on high speed orbiting. As well lack the power to fit good tracking mods. So that leaves you with 2 options.
- Swooping your frig (Clicking next to the target and running by him. Like approaching) - Standing Still
To hit the target well without orbiting with MWD on. That's where it's much harder to use any Arty. However, for me it's much easier to orbit at my range and dodge missiles a lot easier than trying to run away from them. Arty's are just for quick pops on frigs and other NPC junk. IMO Autocannons are the only way to go that will be diverse for all types of other ships. So you can keep your speed of your frig, as well your orbit, and the option to dodge missiles a lot easier.
With any Autocannon, you sub out range for tracking and rate of fire. Then you can go 3 ways.
- Boost Tracking/Range - Boost Damage/Rate of Fire - Boost Tanking/Support
Is it possiable to use all of these? Not hardly... It's possiable to boost damage and tracking with good skills as well using Tech I's or Basics (Basics are still bonuses). In my solo line of Pirating, just focusing on tracking/range has been a PLUS for my Claw. Once you pick the guns you're happy with, the rest will fall into place.

You really dont need any form of tracking-boosting modules on a Claw, not even using 280 II's. Claw has tracking to small projctiles as bonus and it IS enough to even hit other ceptors that orbit you at 5km un-webbed. ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

Yea, but 5 mil of implants for speed, for agility and for MWD cap usage give you a nice edge.
And I agree with dabster. The tracking bonus really helps.

afaik the MWD is to get in close, then you turn it off and orbit at 500m-1000m - battleships have no chance of tracking you at that range unless they web you.

The best setup I have used so far is:
3x200 auto II's 1 named nos
mwd II web
200 plate damage mod 2x overdrives
This setup has been tested against every ceptor out there 1v1 and even against another claw and has passed with flying colors. You obviously have to get in close and web them as soon as they get within 10km and they will pop in 10 seconds. (even the gallente ships :)) My mwd speen is 4177 m/s so speed is not an issue. I do however like the long range setups that I have seen on here and will test them out shortly as engaging a close range gallente AF is not a wise decision atm. Nice ideas guys and if anyone comes up with some more please keep it coming.
Secont setup: 3x200 auto II's
mwd II web
200 plate small rep II 2x overdrives
This is also a nice setup and allows you to rep over time.

there are 2 ways with claw: long range, which sucks, unless you get lucky with 280mm II wreck.
Short range with 150mm acsII and 400mm plate. And the second one is deadly. Even more to Afs than to intys :) It will die vs long range intys, but you cannot kill everything.

A non-plate blasteranis will kill a 200mm plate claw, I'm about 95% sure. Even electrons outdamage 200 IIs, and the taranis has that uber structure to get through.
I can barely beat 200mm plate taranises in a 400mm plate claw. I Die A lot in this vid

The key to the setup is the speed that I have. We can both be webbed but I am still going to be able to stay at the 500m that I like!! Granted the times I beat the Taranis it was a close call but I still won. Lets talk about he Crow--they last the shortest amount of time. Once they reach that 10km range it is over in 5-10 seconds :) With the speed I have, which isnt the greatest, I can get within 10km before they can mwd away and then, like before, pop!

Which strategy is best against them? Going for 1000m orbits with autocannons + web, or going for 13km mwd orbitting with artilleries?
And which ammo is probably suited best for long range fighting in this case? (I take it that for short range you want to use emp most of the time anyways)

Well, i find using artilleries against tarranis works, but nowadays all the ranis pilots fit plates so it takes a while to kill em compare to saw crows who can be killed in almost 2-3 volleys. Also you need to run the 20km scrambler which can be cap intensive, and claw aint got much cap, need to get warp jamming and navigations skills high.
My next experiment is to fit target painter instead of jammer/webber on my arty claw to see if i can hit em so hard they don't know to warp away yet. "Speak quietly and carry a big torpedo."

Yes, lets talk about the Crow... Let's see - 1 Crow with 3 t2 rocket launchers and a 125mm II, it also has a mwd with 400mm plate. Range on your 125mm Autocannons? around 3000-5000m max? Just cause you've managed to win a handful of fights against a handful of ceptors doesn't really make for that good "testing". There are so many different setups out there, especially when you consider people often use sub-par equipment and fly with rubbish skills. P.S. that setup sucks.

The long range artillery setup on a claw is actually very deadly, and quite unpredictable. The reason it sometimes seems weak is because to fly it effectively requires quite a bit of *skill*. Escaping from another long range inty while flying an autocannon-plate setup is very easy. You just MWD towards a celestial object and your garunteed to get atleast 20km away from your orbiting foe.

And the above setup is a pretty good one, the only major problem being if you come up against a gank-fitted taranis (neutrons and damage mods), or a blaster/plate-taranis (400mm plate and blasters) if you both web each other, and he activates his MWD while you activate your Afterburner, assuming equal(ish) skills and equipment you're going to be travelling at approx. 140m/s while your opponent is travelling at over 500m/s, which means not only does he pick the range, but he's going to be getting exactly into his optimal, very quickly.
The same goes for fighting any other inty with an MWD on. Escaping from a long-range inty who refuses to enter web range *might* also be a problem. (not sure on that though)
Originally by: Fred Lowe as has been mentioned, if he's webbing you, you can web him and since the claw generally has the higher top speed, it sets the distance, not the crow.
Again, assuming equal(ish) skills and equal(ish) equipment, chances are the claw will be going slightly faster than the crow, but the difference in speed will not be huge if there both webbing each other and MWD'ing. So while the claw will be able to reduce the range of the engagement it will take a certain amount of time, often long enoguh for the crow to kill the claw or atleast damage it enough to ensure it wins the fight. Also, not only does it have something to do with equipment and skills, but also the player-control of the inties. At the end of the day, just be glad you've got so many variations on what you can fit on your claw, AND still fly effectively. Something I don't reckon the crow has.

This is where she messes up really. Cap relay is a waste, you want a magnetic plate fitted. It's the key to this setup working

This is more of an all out speed question but ive been having so much fun in my Vigil @ 5028m/second.
I'd like to know how fast a claw would go with a gistii type a mwd and 4 local od's.
And how much faster is this than any other races inty's?

Cap relays are a waste realy. A magnetic plating works wonders against Interceptors like a Taranis.
btw: Had no problems killing a few 125mm Taranis or any other longrange Inty in a plated Claw. It's still up to the pilotskill rather than the setup.
I agree that Crows are very limited in their setups atm but Crows generaly win against anything that comes closer than 10km. An arty Claw and Crusader are still THE anti-Interceptor ships even more after the plate nerf.

I decided to specialize in flying the Claw to start out... my question is a bit more general than setups:
Is it even worth flying an inty if I'm in a pirate/merc/mostly-pvp-oriented corp? What do people mostly fly nowadays, and will my Claw be a factor in any fight? |

Edited by: Shintoko Akahoshi on 10/11/2005 22:29:17 Yep, it's still completely viable.
Go play with one on Sisi for a bit. They are tremendously effective interceptors with the flexibility to use in tanked-short or fast-long range setups. I can fly all interceptors, I've used all, and the Claw remains my favorite for raw damage.
For the general "is it worth flying inties" question, they are very useful. For solo pvp, it's nice to have something that can control the fight (i.e.: you decide if you're going to engage, using your superior speed and sig radius). For group pvp, interceptors are the best tacklers you'll find. If you can't scramble something, after all, you probably can't kill it.

Which strategy is best against them? Going for 1000m orbits with autocannons + web, or going for 13km mwd orbitting with artilleries?
And which ammo is probably suited best for long range fighting in this case? (I take it that for short range you want to use emp most of the time anyways)
If it's AC Claw agianst blasterranis, I'd try to stay at opt+falloff. The ranis shouldn't be hitting very much at that range. If he changes ammo (unlikely), I'd go in close and outdamage him. I'd prolly go with 1 emp, 2 fusion and phalanx to chew thru his plate (if any) as fast as possible.

Hmm,
I'm liking this thread - I got a nice short range setup now with 3 x 200mm auto IIs and a rocket launcher.
However I'd like a second option for long range scrambling on fleet battles along with doing a token amount of damage whilst the big boomers are doing the main work
I have been trying 2 x 250mm arty II's 2 x std launcher, mwd and fleeting 20km scram in mid
The low slots is where I fall over, coz I'm spanked for cpu by the time I get here, cap relays, tracking mods, damage mods all need more cpu than I got...weapon upgrades 5 is training right now, and will help a bit - gonna do A.W.U. as well, but grid is not so much my problem here....
Any ideas?

won't even heavy drones catch up to you then?
It's hard to deal damage and still stay at enough speed to avoid damage yourself... at least that's what I've found.
Anyone have a solution to this?

I wouldn't put any armor plate onto an Interceptor; that just defeats the purpose, which is speed. A plate will slow you down and make you easier to hit. In an Interceptor, if you're taking damage, you're doing something wrong. The Cap relay is much more useful. If you want to fit something else besides a relay in low, throw on a damage mod.

the general consensus is not to mix a sheild and armour tank. pick one or the other. i would take out the sh/booster put in a web or scrambler. -----------------------------------------------

If you really want to:
* 3 280mm t2 * named mwd, named disruptor * MAPC, small rep t2, cap relay, either another cap relay, either a nanofiber. (depending on navigation and cap skills).

from what i remember if you fit a claw out for speed and high damage 280IIs (ie gyros if you can) then there isnt any other inty that can really beat you .. though this was before they boosted plates and increased all ships hitpoints (which everybody seems to have forgotten)

Using arties on a claw isn't working for me very well.
Loads of times you loose your lock because of the tiny targetting range, so i fit sensor booster to find out that without a webber i am dead within 10 seconds to any close range inty, or i drop the MWD to find out that even with a webber i am too slow to kill a Taranis in time.
In small groups it's fun when only fitting a sensor booster and MWD because you can play around a bit, since there's a fair chance you are the fastest inty anyway.

claw is awesome autocannons are really cool because when you mwd-approach a target with 4000+ you usually bump 4-5km away.. a blasterranis has to get into a very tight orbit to deal the dmg, while with autocannons you already hit very well at that range, so nail the ranis with a good webber at 4km and pop it whilst taking minimal dmg.
i won loads of 1:1s with my claw. the closest i was to death was about 20% armor agaist a t2 rocket launcher closerange crow with a 400 plate.

125mm autos or rails? also if you have grid issues ditch the pdu for an mapc.
also, if theyre autos then ditch the stnd launcher for either a nos or a rocket.
if you are using the rails, then stopp fitting rails to the claw.

you will really struggle to get a good 400mm plate fit with no mapc. and with the mapc you can up to 150mm autos, which are a big improvemtn dps wise over the 125mms. you need pretty much max fitting skills to get a good claw setup though, even with an mapc.

Scored a volley on a taranis that read: 1)680 (wreck) 2) 240.5 (excellent) 3) 260 (excellent) (all in an instant)
then the pirranha connects with the hull...
..pop...
it may seem like a ludicrous investment of equipment, but the whole point is that the individual little bonuses amount into one final salvo of death that likely caused the unfortunate taranis pilot to go 'WHAT!?'
Not counting the wreck, this sort of a machine can destroy anything lighter than an assault frigate in two volleys (around 5 seconds rof..) at the cost of heinously-expensive equipment, maxed skills and some second-generation gunslinger line implants
