Remember how you started playing this game because it was mature and wasn't filled with 13yo's with unlimited time and tantrums?
CCP have figured out that 13yo's have all the cash, guess they're working on replacing the mature audience with a young mega consumer one.

Edited by: Omnia Void on 29/01/2011 01:30:24 I wanted to fix my eyes (god damn character looks all over the place when trying to take a pic so getting the eyes to look in the camera is a btcih, and the sample pic is to small to tell where the eyes are) But now I have to forgo the re-do so i don't have to get a shirt. I tried it really does change my char look greatly. I was going for that sexy/serious look.
Which brings me to a much more troubling part; the aesthetics of Eve, as far as the concept art and old characters are concerned, were decidedly dark and cyber-punk. Wild hair, odd clothes, fantastic eccentricities. I am afraid with Incarna they are steering towards a much more sterilized and mundane future.
"Any citizen with half a brain can understand that the freedoms that let us wear translucent clothing aren't exactly looked on favorably elsewhere." Eve Chronicles - The Crystal Boulevard. So are they going to go back and make the Gallente a bunch of prudes?

I was displeased that I couldn't create a matar character with no pants and a jacket that looked like a dress. This shirt requirement is unnecessary and offensive to a entirely new level.

As someone else said, they obviously want to calmly "lead" (read: force) us towards a certain look. At this moment there are either horrible camo trousers or tighter equally horrible looking leather trousers. Not to speak of the atrocious skin tight latex shirts, or robe stuff that would somewhat go through as a skirt, but not quite.
If the vision of future eve looks is a right wing fetish party, im not really sure i want to be part of that.

Shirtless I can understand. Pantless I can understand.
But come on, we should be allowed to pod barefoot.

Originally by: Lilla Kharn Our characters are naked inside their pods.
Maybe they just want to set up for micro transactions instead and want to charge for shirts. Otherwise I think we would have gotten a response on this.
I didn't even think of this until you mentioned it, and I'm afraid it could work, too:
Originally by: Muul Udonii I'll be honest, this thread is far too much tl;dr for me.
My toon has no shirt because I spent hours trying to find a shirt that looked good. And I coudln't. Then I realised that so long as I had an outer item of clothing I didn't need an inner one.
Basically; I'll add a shirt if and when CCP deliver one that looks better than how I currently look.
If this is ultimately the case, it is a pathetic money-grubbing move on the part of CCP.
Originally by: Mithfindel I have to say that I, for one, am quite happy of this change. No, I am not a Bible-thumper, oversensitive, or try to be politically correct. In the matter of fact, as a former swimmer turned coach, I do see a fair share of cleavage pretty much daily. (We have a few lanes at a public pool.)
And pretty is not the descriptor I'd use for a lot of huge saggy bags and/or gravity-defying silicone bubbles that many seem to think are the greatest thing after the use of industrial-grade pink or purple paint as makeup. Of course, let every flower bloom and all the liberal stuff, but if you really want to ogle some skin, getting out of the basement might be a good step. Or if you really must have them as the defining feature of your game character, I assume that there's a game for that, too.
I for one don't give two ****s about breasts or what anyone thinks about them. They don't interest me.
What upsets me is that for years CCP have made an effort to present the Gallentean race as a very liberal, "free spirited" society. Somehow, I thought that meant my male character - aside from him having a shaved head to reduce the resulting mess from pod goo when getting out of pod - may not want to wear a shirt, just making do with a jacket instead.
Now I discover that my long laid preconceptions (which CCP are responsible for) mean nothing and no reason is given for throwing them out the window.
Originally by: Hans Crow Don't forget, your characters are generally regarded as professional captains and pilots, and your clothing options are based on how CCP wants their uniforms to look.
We pod pilots are as Gods to men. Why should we give a **** which fork is meant for salad if we don't want to know? The same for clothing.
We rarely - if ever - mix with the those who aren't unbound as we are.
Who cares what they think while we slaughter them.

I have been thinking about this....
I bet that one week, CCP had a "Clothing Optional Friday" and all of the Dev's rocked up to work naked. A ruling was then made that all personnel.. in game and out.. must wear a full set of clothes...no ifs, no buts... definitely no butts!
... and thus the Avatar Creator was changed ....

Ridiculous!
Seriously CCP, you spend years and years talking up the Gallente and their fashion forward culture, and my "professional pilot" has to look like she just crawled out of a J. Crew Catalog? No elegant gowns, no business attire, no skirts, no cute tops, just a handful of boring drab t-shirts and motorcycle jackets. My character looks like a refuge from a French
My Minmatar pilot can't run around barefoot, pants-less, and shirtless with just a jacket and cute undies specifically to freak out Amarrian squares? No, but I can pick cammo pants and a sleeveless vest so I can look like the winner of the "Miss Anti-Government Militia Pageant." Ok, well maybe that fits with the Minmatar, but you sort of forgot the tattoos. Remember those? Our Tribal Marks? Our identification with Minmatar culture and the one thing The Man couldn't take from us? Yeah. Lets not even talk about the shoes. Wait, lets.
My favorite option was allowing the pants to be un-tucked so I could at least somewhat hide the awful clods you call shoes in this game.
No high heels, no wedges, no Mary Janes, not even a good flat. No, I just get combat boots or Crocks from the Future.
The real kicker though, the insult to injury, the rain on your wedding day is that you CAN'T. EVEN. SEE. THE. SHOES. in your avatar portrait.
Why even let us customize the body? And before you say "For walking in stations of course!" let me ask how many years ago you promised that one.
I, for one, refuse to put on a shirt. I'd love to repose my portrait, but if it means I can't have the only awesome piece of clothing available for the Minmatar not clash horribly, then I'll just suffer.

It would be really nice if someone from CCP would actually stand up and give us an explanation.
Until you do, the silence is damning.

"Users can no longer proceed to the Portrait screen without equipping a shirt beforehand."
That's characteristical stupid niminy-piminy! I like my toon how it is and its no nudity on it! All day you can see girls in bikini, what's the problem? Give us some better looking clothes and not that bad looking things, so the problem is fixed!
There are major problems than a toon with jacket and bra/small top to fix! Are you so prudish? Hopeless...

This is tyranny. I am never changing this portrait.
We see them in their underwear when we create the character. It's ridiculous that we are forced to put more clothes on at all.
Also, according to RP, many Gallente women are nudists. What happened? |
