Edited by: Bumblefck on 31/01/2011 18:42:27 This thread was a little astounding (click here), whereby a CCP employee (with the intention of being helpful, it must be said) got a fairly non-esoteric part of the game grossly wrong.
I'm not trying to cause a storm here but it certainly does lend weight to the experiences that some people have had with poor service from GMs, eventually needing petition escalations. In an ideal world, no one should NEED to have a petition escalated.

CCP are not robots, they can make mistakes and as far as I know Zygy is just a community representative here to clean up forums and such, so it's not surprising he isn't intimate with all mechanics of the game.
This didn't really need another post, you could have just posted your "outrage" in that thread, right where you posted the link to this thread in that thread in the first place. |

It seems indicative of a wider problem though. I'm not outraged - far from it. However, if they don't know their game - who does?

The players, as evidenced by the aforementioned thread.
Furthermore you claim that he got the mechanics "grossly" wrong, when in fact only a small part of what he said was wrong. Being under the impression that what Zygy said was true would have done no harm to anyone, they would have noticed that they still had kill rights after the fact and known that the information given by zygy was not accurate... no harm done. |

A couple of comments: - CCP Zym plays Eve. Really, seriously, honest to God plays Eve. - CCP Zym is a forum moderator, not a dev. I wouldn't expect him to know all the nitty gritty details. - Kill rights are a fairly esoteric part of the game. Thousands of people have had kill rights on me, and I have no idea how they work.

But it was still inaccurate. That's the whole point. Don't you think there's something amiss when players have to rush to correct a compan's representative on their own product?

1. It's nice to know at least someone there plays :)
2. That is a good point. However, he did post in that post, the blue bars giving (at least to me) the suggestion of authoratitive wisdom
3. If you're attacked and killed by someone, you have one opportunity within 30 days to kill them in return (a freebie), as it were. You can kill them in highsec or low sec to exercise the killrights. (This is how I understand how killrights work. I'm probably wrong lol )
Keep in mind that the person in the other thread did ask a fairly specific question

These are internet forums, mistakes happen, sometimes people misread or misintepret text, misinformation is thrown around, nobody seriously expecting help would come here and expect 100 right answers, you take what the majority say as the truth not what 1 person says regardless of who he is or wether he has pretty blue bars. |

Snowman and Buck:
Yes of course, we are all human, and we do make mistakes. As an isolated incident it's really nothing, I'd like to stress. But, coupled with some people's experience of poor petition handling in the past, it doesn't exactly shed a great light on how these things are handled.
You are of course entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. And that poster somewhere above who suggested that CSRs should get paid more is probably spot on.

In this game, hundereds of petitions are made a day, statistically there will always be people in such numbers that are unsatisfied with the response given to there ticket, you cannot judge a company on a misinterpreted paragraph by a community representative and hearsay about petition responses (especially considering the confidentiality of these tickets)
The best measure of how well "things are handled" is in the amount of subscribers the game has, and in this regard I believe EVE is doing well. |

No one likes a "know-it-all" so one must expect mistakes from time to time, even from mister/misses perfect.
Even worse, no one likes someone who expects more from others than they would expect from themself. They find themselves all alone, without their christmas bonus.

Lol, are you suggesting that people employed by a company in order to provide information to customers when questioned regarding product supplied by said company deliberately get it wrong so as not to appear to be smartarses?
I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a company staffed with know-it-alls than semi-know-it-alls

lol I did look at that earlier.
I think the key thing here is:
Quote: Once you have destroyed the player's ship, your revenge has been achieved. The pilot whose ship you destroyed will not be able to attack you freely.
So you have until the opponent's ship is destroyed. At least, that's how I read it.

Well, I'm sorry if having standards of consistency and expectations of knowledge from a company I give money to makes me a ****. Besides, now you're just using that tried and tested playground tactic of repeating what I've said back to me, so with respect, we have nothing more to discuss.

I too am angry and upset that the mailman cannot tell me why the powerbill he delivered to me was higher than it should be.
Zym is the mailman for the ccp devs. He delivers the things they give him to give to us and passes on the things we give to him to give to them. Do you want him working on the code too?

I guess it would be hard not to be on the forums what you seem to be IRL, so I will give you that.
But, no reasonable standard expects perfection, therefore your standard isn't really a standard, it's just another whine tbh.

One day I set out on a mission to write a document covering the ROE (rules of engagement) in Eve. If I had a test environment where I didn't have to put a war dec through on the test server and wait two days to re-verify stuff, and I could pull up random characters for different scenarios, I probably would have finished it... But between all the variables that can be, it's a royal pain in the ass.
