Unfortunately with the recent economic hardship in Iceland. Russian banks and private investors (Russian Mafia) took the opportunity to bail out Iceland in the form of loans and other investments. And as significant portions of Russia's industry, finicial and governmental institutions are very much run by mafia gangs. So It comes to no surprise that any method of earning a profit (and Vodka) no matter how unconventional, like farming and selling virtual currency. Will be exploited. And no doubt this puts CCP between a rock and a hard place when it comes to dealing with it.

You won't find many decent cafes, cinema theaters, places for children to hang out after school, etc. especially away from capital (Moscow). Another reason is that people simply don't make enough money to go on holidays or to invite their spouse to a restaurant at least 2-3 times a month. Most of the cash goes to pay for rent (86% of young people rent or live with parents and can't afford to buy their own flat) and whatever is left is spent on food and clothes. Internet on the other hand is wide spread and is very affordable, especially in big cities. So you get plenty of guys in the evenings flying spaceships, 'raiding' in WoW, and doing stuff in some other popular MMOs out there. Russian players tend to stick together since they prefer to play in groups (more fun, more rewarding). And since most of us struggle with English - non Russian speaking players are not allowed in those groups. So that's basically it, botting has nothing to do with it. All major alliances run bots since CCP allows that. They do it not for profit but for the simple reasoning 'Why not make extra isk to burn on pvp while I'm asleep?'

Spire Collective is not Russian, Intrepid Crossing not russian, ECLIPSE is spanish speaking, Bloodbound. not Russian, etc. It takes more patience and an understanding that communication is slow back and forth (unless you have a native speaker in your corp). Helpful to keep a translator program handy, while not ideal it can get basic ideas across to both sides. Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. I suspect that with little better to do with their entertainment time and money, this can lead to kicking ass at EVE in ways I myself simply don't have time to. They were forced to stop at the request of the Icelandic government. It appears, that as a retaliation to the CCP crackdown the Russian government threatened to call in all the loans they gave to Iceland during the financial meltdown. The russians demanded that CCP had to immediately cease all their actions against russian nationals and restore the account of someone with the username "the gray cardinal". The reason large parts of the East and South are under Russian control is entirely cultural. European and North Americans are mostly coddled from birth to grave, it makes them soft with a sense of entitlement. As such they aren't willing to work as hard for things. Russia underwent the fall of the USSR and severe economic troubles afterwards (though in the last decade things have improved greatly). As such they came out with a people with a strong work ethic in everything they did much like the US generation that came out of the Great Depression. They do have the same danger that has befell the USA as times improve and folks have to work less hard a sense of entitlement may emerge repeating the cycle of cultures/empires.
