I sent a petition to customer support about this issue, and they refused to give me a straight answer, referring me to the Forums instead. When the offer was made to allow the re-customisation of characters a few weeks ago, what we were not told was that the real reason for this was to censor the dress code for female characters.
What is the problem the CCP management has with a female avitar wearing a bra and open front jacket? I assume they do realise that they are only cartoon characters? You see this sort of thing everyday in real life. And, what's the point of having gender specific characters if the cannot truly look a bit like their chosen gender?
Also, the way CCP Management went about this was a bit misleading, offering players a chance to do another customisation of their character instead of saying, 'look, we have a few wowsers on our management team who are offended by low cut shirts or open front jackets on the female avitars'.

Despite the Dutch being known as very liberal, in the 36 years I've lived in The Netherlands, I've only come across this a handful of times, none of which were in (very) public settings. I've never seen it in my travels, and I've mainly seen women wearing a bra as a top on television, particularly in music videos where a solid amount of female nudity is needed as a substitute for musical talent.
So, from personal experience, your statement has been proven false well over 13.000 times. I'm thinking either your view of everyday life is skewed, or you're living somewhere a fair number of men might be interested to know the location of.

You're defining someone else's intent by ignoring any information that suggest otherwise, thus losing sight the big picture. Such behaviour tends to cause a breakdown in communication and can make people come off as short-sighted, ignorant, paranoid and even delusional. To put it simple: facts aren't facts when you don't pull them out of your own ass.

Actually it was ironic, after CCP set the recustomization flag on my character I was able to advance to the portrait mode with absolutely zero clothing at all. It would have certainly made for a unique portrait, but I just couldn't do it.

Personally I don't really care if CCP allows naked people or not (or anything in between) but:
Originally by: Justine they are only cartoon characters?
Well they do look quite realistic, they're not Simpsons "cartoony"
Quote: And, what's the point of having gender specific characters if the cannot truly look a bit like their chosen gender?
So girls only look like girls if they wear a bra and jacket? That's not a very strong argument!
Quote: Also, the way CCP Management went about this was a bit misleading, offering players a chance to do another customisation of their character instead of saying, 'look, we have a few wowsers on our management team who are offended by low cut shirts or open front jackets on the female avitars'.
It's never been said that this was the reason. For all we know it may have been some concerned american mother who called her senator because she was upset about the bras, who in turn called the age rating instititute who called CCP.

Huh, not sure were you live, but last time I wne toutside I did not see many women wering jackets and bras only.
Regardless, CCP has been self cencoring themselfs more and more latly. Trying to appeal to a broader market I guess. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been following this topic with some interest.
I was playing around with the character creator yesterday (recently returned to Eve), and I noticed the disturbing lack of clothing options. I wonder how many people would be running around in bras, if there were other options available?
What's wrong with showing a bare chest (or heaven forbid, a little cleavage)? I don't buy the rating argument. Aion females show plenty of skin, but is still rated teen. As to the objectification of women, part of a women is her umm...qualities. What is wrong with admiring the qualities that she possesses? This is not to say that these should be admired over and above her other qualities, such as kindness, success, or intelligence, but why shouldn't we admire her physical attributes too? Certainly, I've never objected to females admiring male qualities (anyone who says they don't is a fool).
Running around in a bra might or might not be in poor taste, but considering the present options it's understandable. I'm not saying Eve needs to be Aion, or the even more extreme TERA, but it is possible to go too far in the other direction as well (and Eve would've been the last game I expected this from).
I'm not ashamed to admit that I like boobs, butts, midriffs, thighs, legs, etc, whether they be hand drawn, real, pixelated or otherwise. To those who criticize me for it, get out and live a litte. May it be on your head. Sheesh.

False dichotomy. Just because clothes off a little bit of cleavage, does not mean that the wearers wish to "wear as little as possible".

Can you really create a false dichotomy with an opinion? He's not setting up a choice, he's stating what would appear to be a subjective statement.
Additionally, the definition of "a little bit" is so subjective that trying to use it in a logical refutation is a bit silly, wouldn't you say? --Vel

He was setting up a choice between skanky clothes and apparently the status quo. Overly prudish and unnecessarily ****ty are two unnecessary extremes. Spending all of your game time in a bikini is a totally different thing than a low cut top or a bare midriff (I was happy to see this option at least). I've been to wedding ceremonies in Baptist (and Catholic) churches which showed off some cleavage. Even this is far removed from what's been accepted as the norm for public viewing. Walk into 7-11 and look at the magazine rack.
I agree, that wearing virtually nothing all the time may not fit Eve's style. I disagree that CCP's current clothing design choices are acceptable. There has to be a middle ground between these extremes.

You don't understand my point of view. However, I live in a country where the beaches and parks are above sea level and you see low cut tops and bare midrifts everyday. I was mainly drawing attention to the way this was implimented.

I think it's been abuse what killed shirtless females. Like:
CCP: Ok, let's hope people is mature enough and MOST will dress the ladies properly and only a few will find an amusing, tasteful way to use this feature & not look like one-penny wenches Reality check: one of each 5 female avatar is both shirtless and tasteless CCP: doh, would had been fine, but people can't help being rets so push the kill button on the feature
And, by the way, here in my corner of world women go topless at the beach and yet only wh***s would wear a bra and a jacket in the street

A lot of you Cynics don't seem to understand the point I was making. I don't expect the female Characters to be naked, or erotically dressed. The whole idea of the new character customisation was to obviously make the character portraits look more realistic, and also to generate maybe some renewed interest in the game. " I don't "get off" or get some "erotic thrill" over the characters, (there's plenty of internet **** around if you want to do that) however, what's wrong with the female characters showing a bit of cleavage, or a bare midriff etc. Or having some more stylish clothing options. Furthermore, what's the point of fully dressing a character from head to toe, including footwear, when only the top half is permitted in the portrait.
And for those who said "it's only a game", or "they're just here to play EVE and don't care about the portrait". Well, I have been in this game for 6 years now and it's a bit more than a game to me. I'm not some teenage '****er' who has to play month by month on a Time Card, or someone who is here for a quick PvP thrill then leaves after the boredom sets in. And yes, unless you live in some cold boring part of the world you do see more brief attire than that everyday.

Anyone here see the irony in this. The power suit is pretty much the norm for most female executives. When you get down to it close to a quarter of most executives, including ccp management, show up to work in a bra a jacket panties and slacks and high heals. Are yhese people skanky? no not really. frankly the jacket over a bra look is pretty common in most major american cities. Heck it's not unheard of to see women wearing see through micro-mesh with just a bit of electrical tape over their nipples. the fact that they don't want bras appearing in the portrait is a little weird considering the fact that before you put clothes on your avatar you can sit there and look at it in it's underwear all you want. excluding it from the final image doesn't really do anything.
The people that were responsible for the change are obviously the kind of uptight repressed loosers that deliberately avoid most of downtown manhattan. That being said: Who cares. were all adults here, or at least we are supposed to be.
