Well i am Amar There ships are sleek and look good. now for the difficult part. Amarr Specilze in lasers correct? and lasers use capacitor. Thus making usuing shileds difficult right? some here are some questions nthat i need clearing up
1. Lasers are they good weapons?
2. Does Amarr Prefer armor and hull repairs over shield boosters/extenders?
3. just usuing lasers doesnt seem enough do i train to use rockets or missles as well?
4. I notice Amarr ships are pretty fast by themselves should afterburmner/MWD be trained and fitted?
Thanks in Advance |

1. Yes 2. Not sure why you would hull tank. Go for armor tanking. Hull repairers are pointless 3. It's a nice plus. 4. Off course. Armor tanking will nerf your speed and what may appear as a fast whip might end up slow due to fitting armor plates and rigs. -Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. |

Go to this page
Somewhere in the middle you can download the "latest" guide (its free pdf). It says Isk guide but it touches "every" subject.
It is a bit out of date yet it does explain really well the differences in tanks. It will also explain what to look for to know if a ship is usually armor or shield tanked and its varieties.
Good luck
Edit Since your a new pilot, you will want to read the whole guide, its over 400 pages, so.....dont get disouraged, just take it in, one subject at the time. After a subject, google for 2012 guides on the subject to get completely up to date. Once you think you have it all, you-áhave actually become-áignorant towards everything else.

Happy Birthday. We noticed. It's cute. You'll learn.
Think about joining a player corp as soon as you can. It helps to learn some things in this complex game, although no guarantees that they will be correct things. Also, there is the rookie help chat channel. I believe you are automatically placed in it as a day old character. Anyway there should be a link to it in your chat channel search menu. It is a good place to ask basic questions like in your op.

No worries, you will.
More seriously, its not meant personally in any way, its part of the "roleplay", "political" nature. But thats for later on to figure out.
Focus on the guides first, is the best advise you can get, and if you are so inclined, a corp can make a difference (huge difference)
But carefull there, people will try to scam you (recruitment scams) and is fully legit)

No thats the physical version You need to go down halfway and richt click save the pdf for the free version (english or other language)
the pdf is free of charge
edit, the info is out of date, not sure by how much exactly. But the basic premises certainly still apply. This guide just "plants" you better for reading the 2012 guides which mostly count on you already understanding some of the basics. The linked guide provides just that, the basics to get planted.
But yes, always google for 2012 guides after each subject.
edit 2 http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page also a very good portal for using when making your first steps into the universe Once you think you have it all, you-áhave actually become-áignorant towards everything else.

For future reference... these types of thread totally don't belong in this section of the forums. New Citizens Q&A is that way. ----->
Now then...
Imperius Vecaradi wrote:1. Lasers are they good weapons? Yes and no.
Lasers are quite nice in that they... - don't use ammo the way other weapons do (T1 crystals can be used almost infinitely, T2 and Faction crystals (see: "special" crystals) are good for 1000+ shots). - have the longest range "short range" turret in the game. - can change their optimal range in under a second by swapping crystals.
However... - as you already noticed, they use a lot of capacitor power to fire. If you have no capacitor left, your weapons are useless. And your enemies can use special equipment to do just this. - they have the worst tracking ability of all the short range turret systems. - they only deal EM and Thermal-type damage (enemies can use this limitation to beef up resistances against you).
Imperius Vecaradi wrote:2. Does Amarr Prefer armor and hull repairs over shield boosters/extenders? Amarr ships almost exclusively armor tank. There are exceptions... but you'll learn about that as you fly with other pilots and gain experience in the game. For the time being... just stick strictly with armor tanking.
Imperius Vecaradi wrote:3. just usuing lasers doesnt seem enough do i train to use rockets or missles as well? "... doesn't seem enough..." seems to imply that you're not doing very good damage. Since you are a beginner I think that has more to do with your low skills in gunnery than anything else. Train your gunnery support skills up to 3 or 4 and I'm sure you'll see an improvement.
As for missiles... it's a secondary weapon system that some Amarr ships can use... same as drones (on larger ships). I suggest you stick with improving your gunnery skills first before branching out.
Imperius Vecaradi wrote:4. I notice Amarr ships are pretty fast by themselves should afterburmner/MWD be trained and fitted? Amarr ships are actually the slowest in the game. More so when you put on a full armor tank. However, it's sometimes good to have an AB or MWD for PvE activities just so you can get from point A to B faster. MWDs are almost mandatory for PvP activities. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Basically the lore behind the Amarr is that they are race ruled by a theocratic-feudal government. Religion plays a pivotal role in their lives as does institutionalized slavery... which the Minmitar race suffered heavily under.
Tiger then made a joke implying that you need to get some thick skin because hostile comments are the norm here. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

t1 frigates: decent t2 frigates: not exactly horrible, but not that good either t1 cruisers: pretty bad t2 cruisers: very good, Curse, Zealot and Pilgrim are all very decent ships battlecruisers: Harb and Oracle are both decent for pvp battleships: aba and armageddon are good close range pvp ships, but Amarr lacks a decent fleet sniper capitals: all ships are good
Overall, Amarr is a decent race, but they have a few problems:
1. Lack decent PVE ship that can do good in all regions of the game. EM damagetype is pretty bad versus Angels and Guristas - that pretty much rules out effective PVE in a large portion of EVE universe. 2. Armor tanking in general is pretty bad for sub-capitals, most pvp fleets fit shield tanks. That being said, you do see fleets based around Amarr ships(Zealot and Abaddon) from time to time. 3. Bad racial EW(tracking disruption), that is useless vs some of the most flow ships in the game(Drake, Tengu) |

assuming not troll
1. no, they are mediocre in both PVP and PVE, they good in POS bashes and ok in large scale fights though. PVE they are very good vs sansha and blood raiders, but since they cannot do kinectic or explosive damage suck vs everything else
2 amarr are armor, not hull, almost no amarr ships can shield tank, and the few that can are medicore at it on the best of situations
3 some tech 2 amarr ships use missiles, but assuming you are new don't worry about this so much, however missile skills will help with caldari and minmitar should you choose to cross train to one of those races.
4 amarr ships are actually slow AB and MWD depends on the situation. in lvl 4 missions for example AB are not needed but if you want to PVP chances are you will use one or the other, Frigates should always have one or the other... |

Welcome. Don't have any advice on ship setups because I don't fly Amarr.
Just wanted to say hi!
Oh yeah, join decent player corp as soon as possible. If you can't find one dedicated to what you want to do, try Eve University for training. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Don't trust anyone (or at least make people earn that trust). Remember the only time you are safe from combat is when you are docked; once you hit undock, assume you can be attacked at any time, regardless of the security rating of the system you are in.
Biggest key though is player corp. Experienced knowledgable players will provide you with way more practical knowledge then reading a guide (still read the guide though, it still helps).
And remember you will eventually lose ships, don't beat yourself up over it, if you follow the fly what you can afford rule, it won't be that bad.
Oh, and in my opinion, you should always have a prop mod (AB or MWD); if you use the MWD, there are some quirks to it, so learn the mechanics of it first, before you dart all over the place with one.
Welcome and fly safe! "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds, given adequate vacuuming systems." |
