Edited by: bl3h on 16/02/2011 16:19:56 I'm a relatively new player and just started a few months ago. I've been following the 0.0 wars and the Titan losses, and I was wondering, how do so many people afford to fly Titans? Most of them can afford to replace them too. Do alliances offer discounted price on Titans, or just give one to trusted senior members who can fly it? Or are those people just super rich and can afford to buy them off of the Sell forum whenever they lose it?

Titans are very affordable when you have army of bots grinding isk for you 23+ / 7
That's how they do it.

The skill books alone to fly a capital class ship are enormously expensive, (around 800,000,000.00 isk for Capital Ships and Caldari Carrier) plus the lesser Capital Ship Logistics skills Fighter Bomber skills etc., then the ship is of course an enormous expense above that. Given that not every pilot spends the isk to get into it, yeah the pilots are kind of rare and so privileged. Our alliance provides capital ships to competent pilots, they don't help with the skills though.

Titan's are also very profitable when you're able to produce Moon Goo reactions out of nothing and not get banned for it

It's easy to afford a Titan.
You just become a station manager and skim off taxes from your alliance members / local pets, or plunder your alliance hangers like most Alliance leaders.

titans come from moon goo farms in severly underpopulated 0.0 space held down by large alliances who mostly use the space until the strategic level of the system is high enough to install a cynojammer and then move on to kicking smaller corporations out of new space with superblobs so they can do it all over again..
the answer, boycott t2 items.
the practical answer, make the strategic level of a system be developed by the number of plyaer hours spent there, instead of the time the system was owned.

Seriously? Botting? Stop crying wolf... It's not all botting....keep in mind if I have 100bill isk, but no one has taken the time to mine moon goo then no matter how much i want it, no titan will be bought by me. Remember the eve economy is PLAYER based, you can't go buy a titan from a npc. even if i bot until i can afford 10 titans, there won't be one until somone mines the goo and creats the mods.
Titans and super caps are supposed to be designed as 'alliance toys'. Meaning, only a group of people can afford one. You said you are new, so I'll clue you in. This game is based around teamwork. all aspects of the game are designed around it. Manufacturing is a result of group mining, in PVP, teamwork is essiental, in PVE, teamwork is helpfull. No one person is supposed to be able to afford a titan or supercap.
That being said, (for the sake of looking at both sides) you could argue that rat botting has opened up the door to allow more to be built by a single group. more isk income means more moon pos's to be built and supported...but again, that also means more sales for the people building POS devices.
The problem now a day is blobs of supercaps....and yes I do beleive some of this is a result of botting. But not all!

in Eve isk makes isk, seriously
the more you have, the more you can make!
It took me several times longer to make my first 100mil than it did to go from 1-10bil, you tend to hit another bottleneck at about 20-30bil.

A titan cost about 34bil currently to build and about another 10b for mods if your going the cheap side. If your straight purchasing said titan you will be paying 50b+.
Anyway, as or current you need at the bare min 30+m SP to fly a titan properly. Thats about 1 and half year at the very least. There are many ways in game to earn isk. At current I earn 4b a month basically passively without moon mining. When you finally crawl outta high sec you'll find that it is very easy to make isk and that the 50+b you need for a titan isnt really that much.
On top of that a titan is an alliance tool, period. Alliance will help you fund it and get into one most of the time if they trust you and think you would an asset to them in one.

Not saying that there isn't people who bot to afford their titans, I'm just saying there are other ways as well. I can think several ways of raising 100b in Eve. The options you mentioned are just some of them. Scamming is my favourite.

0.0 is flooded by ISKs : huge bounties for easy-to-kill rats (especially since Dominion), lucrative drone loots, moon mining, and now planetary interaction. One single 0.0 player can earn easily more than one billion a month. 1000 members = 1 trillion...
Point is, years ago, the loss of a Titan was a terrible thing for an alliance, and now, people can lose 10 in a lagfest without remorse... -------------------------------- Fulbert. Miner - Industrialist |

I'm not trying to be smart about this, but this is a known method of achieving isk.
It's a valid answer to "how can people afford titans?", it's part of the discussion, whether ccp wants to acknowledge this black eye or not
I understand if you must sweep me under the rug as a post like this is no good for PR. The very least you can do is just lock this thread, as you have no intention of letting us discuss the very REAL ways people achieve their endgame in Eve.

Oh yea, the russians charging renters impossible rents and even station taxes on refining has nothing to do with botting. Nope, the rents surely don't bot for the isk as it would take a ridiculous number of people to pay for it otherwise. The russians definitely don't spend that isk on titans and super caps, nope no sir, all the documentations on external sites(which CCP is very well aware of) detailing their activities and specific recruitment for botters doesn't say anything to the contrary.

If you assume that someone can make a 10% return on their income per month, it isn't terribly hard. Starting with 5 bil (easy to come by), it will take you 2 years to afford a Titan. 6 months after that and you can replace it with some regularity.
Furthermore, it discounts more active means of making ISK, like L4s and anoms - both of which can pay more than 100M ISK/hr. And that's just personally supplied Titans - completely neglecting corp/alliance supplied titans.

Generally, any method for acquiring massive amounts of ISK generally involves getting people dumber than you to do your work for you. It's called: "trading". ----------
