Alien ships. And I mean really alien, not Jovian, Sleeper or whatever might be mentioned in the backstories. Let them appear every now and then, zoom through the systems, shut down local comms, disable all modules and weaponry and disappear without the trace. Then let people wonder what the **** was that.

cracked planets a bit like the blue crystal asteroids you see in some exploration sites. other heavy industrial objects like the previously mentioned solar arrays. the desicated frozen corpses of WoW characters. and a bowl of petunia's to go with the whale.

I for one would love to see more NPC advertisments rolled though the billboards as well.
Nother thing to add to the list is NPCs formations instead of milling about on completely random paths, specially naval units around the boarders forming up Stand Off forces at the gates Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 20JAN11

Edited by: Nova Fox on 22/02/2011 14:04:06 Oh I got another thing for the list.
Billboards that update when an Incursion system to some sort of warning broadcast or updates visually to warn traffic advisory at the gate.
They also need to be alot bigger for this to matter. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 20JAN11

I want Space Weather!
Solar Wind, Interplanetary Magnetic Fields, geomagnetic storms, solar flares, Coronal mass ejections... etc! Make space more alive... there's no point in making space a dangerous place if the only danger comes from the PC's and NPC's.

I would love to see pos released from chains of moon, ie. allow anchoring of pos anywhere in space. Of course you could only moon mine in standard moon anchoring point pos, but other then that... And maybe freely anchored pos could have 5% penalty on fuel consumption to compensate lack of moon...
After all we do have battle probes for finding them and you see towers and structures in missions all the time, nonewhere near moons... God i would love to commondier abandoned pos tower from mission pocket, fix it up and put it online again...

I Think POS still need to have a limits in system, true i would love to see them moved away from moons to be functional in other things, but I think it needs to have a power station or something anchored at the moon feeding the pos. It's space, it's supposed to be vast and empty.
If you must fill it with something... erm... custard?

This thread made me remember of the days gone by, when there were small pockets of stuff (dust clouds, asteroid outposts and the occasional NPC pirate) placed some thousand kilometers away from the nearest celestial object. Ah, the wonders of the Directional Scanner.

Space is only empty relitve to how you travel through it. AS we move faster than light between objects most of the time space 'to us' is full. Adding more 'things' at places we warp too (station/planet trafic etc) will just means thats where people go to because theres no point for them to sit in the empty parts of space (theres nothing there, nothing to attack/defend or have worth)

If you're going to talk about the laws of physics, I was reading a book recently called, "Why E=MC^2". Apparently if you travelled to the Andromeda galaxy at 99.9999997% the speed of light, you'd get there in 50 years, but 2,000,000,000 years would have passed on Earth. So when you returned, another 50 years later, there would be lots of dust and cobwebs on your computer monitor.
But what I can't understand is why people say that the light arriving to Earth from Andromeda was emitted 2,000,000,000 years ago. Surely it was emitted 50 years go (from the light's point of view)? I does confuse me....

btw, I assumed space was full of stuff already (Higg's field, cosmic rays, microwave background radiation :p).
There is a 'cosmic friction' the faster you travel closer to light speed the more atomic resistance youll face. This is the resistance that slows down time in your perspective. Whoever has the clocks is doing it wrong it will techncially take you 2 billion years to reach adromeda regardless. Just the ships onboard clock will only register 50 of those years and will have to make adjustments. This has been observed as early as the 1700s when they would get two clocks set them up perfectly and one ship goes on a long voyage and the other clock in port when the clock returns its all out of whack.
Thats another thing I would love to see though varied planets, like supersized earths or caustic planets that are akin to venus or a yellowstone park like planet and the gas giants having more colors. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 20JAN11
