Its like in wow.. if you enter a contected area you can be killed by any alliance or horde (denpending what race you are) its the same if you enter 0.4 and below systems, you can be attacked by anyone.. if you dont like it dont play it.

You can try putting jammers in med slots, that will keep alot of things off, but no you cannot tank or escape a battleship in one, the same way in real life an eighteen wheeler can't do anything against a jet fighter. If you wish to fight the pirates, get a battleship. Your choices are to accept that you can only do so much in your indy and work with that, stop going into those systems, or change your profession. CCP is not going to change the game for one person, and even if other people agree with you there are far to few of you. If you need help outfitting your indy or with tactics, i'm sure people will stop flaming you and help, and if they don't you may talk to me ingame about it. If you don't like PVP, then EVE is clearly not for you. btw if you don't want your identity to be revealed you should be more careful with what you say and how you say it. You are not exactly following NSA policy so to speak.

Insure it and start killing rats in .4 and .3 put some work in and you'll be able to afford a cruiser, then you'll be able to mine well and hunt better, and keep it insured and even a well fitted one (assuming you arn't buying named or t2)will only cost about 3-4mil to replace (less for tier 1 and 2).
