That's a nice surprise to see some french translation in EVE. I hope this will come true one day. And if it's an error or some kind of joke, here the screens for the sake of our memories

Note the "Mn" for minute, not in International System, but widely used by Frenchs and officialized since 1948.
Anyway, Good Job once again CCP. |

They, long ago, did this and it was terrible. It just confuses every single french player (including myself) that have been playing for atleast 6 month. The language frontier keeps kids away from the game, and it's great this way. It's some kind of filter.

Not sure to understand your "adapt or die" conclusion.
I'm just congratulating CCP for continuing EVE's localization.
I don't think Russians, Japaneses and Dutchs players are majority teens nowadays.
Moreover, i know this is a general thought that Kiddies come to games in their own langages but remember you learn English at 9' and EVE is not quite an easy game (plus PEGI 12+)
And if you can't join an alliance because of your mentality, then...you''l do some Lvl4 and stop.
No Raid 25 HardMode, no 'bind on Equip', no purple, no pokemon's pets, and especially no Pandas ! This is the filter you look for.
People who succeed in Eve, should play Eve, no matter their age.
Remember the daddy behind him/her could be Mittani. |

[joke] Then your filter miserably failed the day Eve started in English with all your US/GB fat kids in front of their computer training hard with sodas and chips to get some weight and bully on the internet [/joke]

Confirming this guy is not representative of the french-speaking community.
Sure, for vets, having a native translation is a burden and they'd rather keep the english (which they can), but I think it improves the NPE. See what is happening with german and russian players.

This reminds me of the survey I had for the german - loca.
Localization should be scratched of the board. There is nothing good with it. Most ppl speak english. Communicating in different languages can be hard for some people allready, and it only gets worse with multiple languages (clients) involved.
I know french ppl are proud of their language, but rly, the last thing eve needs is another localization.
Don't get me wrong, the quality of localization is pretty good, it's just a useless feature.

This is so elitist and close minded ! Most people playing the game speak english, because the others cannot play, the game being in english !
Localisation is the best thing that can happen to french community. The only ones to disagree are bitter vet missing the "EVE at 2000 toons" era and selfish elitist who don't want to share their game.
It's easy : localisation => more people => better EVE => more french people => even better EVE for french people
Localisation only *add* to the game. Bitter vet and elitist will always be able to keep their game in english and join some elitist US alliance to stay away from their fellow...

More localization means more player added to the base, that can't be bad An BTW, you don't have to be a kid to be a jerk, eve is already full of it (yeah i'm already here, so nothing worse can happen to this game ^^) |

I only came across this thread now, so not sure if this is still happening. If so, could you please confirm where you saw this? Which server? Which language was the client set to? Also, what is the language of your OS?
Also, unfortunately this is an error at this point. While French is certainly one of the languages we consider for potential future localization, the EVE client is currently not supposed to be in French. I am happy to see enthusiasm for it though - CCP Shiny EVE Localization |

Oh serisously ? Damn ! Consider youselves happy i'm posting more screens because if it's a bug, well, it's a good one
If it's a Dev Mate which implemented this joke, like the one which introduced colors on this forum for CCP Punkturis some times ago as i was asking on the test forum thread, then the only punishment he deserves is to FINISH this job ! 'cuz it's quite well translated.
Anyway... (sad face)

But it certainly a bug if you game is in french only in the title screen. |

From my experience, ppl don't care about the language the game is in aslong as its still readable and not in some weird kyrillic-language. I might be wrong, but CCP had a survey for localization with an option for " I play the game because there is a localized-client ". I bet there aren't many ppl choosing this option. PPL will allways find someone in their language which is able to help out - but different names for different items just makes communicating harder. Along with this, beeing able to cut yourself out of the need to communicate with players not able to speak your language doesn't make the game easier.
I'm in Solar, and while those guys are nice and friendly, some of them doesn't even understand english. While it's good for them to have a russian client (like french would be good for french people), it definately makes it harder to set up things together (which is kinda sad).
While french is an awesome language (I can't speak btw), I doubt the need for it, and the benefits from having a french client. Might be me, but's my meaningless opinion anyway and I really doubt it will change s.th. ;)
the same is true for the german client. In my opinion as a german, the german localization doesn't add good stuff. Only thing it's doing is making it harder to understand help given by other players, guides, Forums etc.

LoL That's because English/Americans usually love our French accent I ran into this several time with incursion : "You sir, are a French ! isn't it ? oh, Bonjour ! comment allez-vous?" (i'm skipping mistakes) I heard one Dev @fanfest2012 can't remember his name who spoke Frenglish and can't say what he's done in Eve, but he's awesome
As for Grombutz, Of course it makes comprehension harder, but for those experienced guys, i'm sure you can run your client in English. as for unexperienced ones, make a strong base then learn important translated words. and for mission runner, i can assure you reading all this interesting pages is a pain where you know it is.
PS : we already have good guides and forums in French for Eve. i started there |

When I started playing, what annoyed me the most was reading descriptions (tutorials, misions, weapons, ammo, items descriptions) in english even if, I think, I can read english quite easily.
And I agree with BugraT WarheaD : Quote:More localization means more player added to the base, that can't be bad
I tend to think that the easier it is to learn how to play EVE in the beginning, the more players you'll keep later, after the trial period. And if there's a translation for these players, you'll make them happy.

To minimize the cost of the translation, I am sure lots of french players (like me) would want to help translate item descriptions, missions details, interface, etc...
Then, once we would all think our translation is finished, we could send it to CCP for approval and modifications.
The french players could work all together on this joint work. Good feature requests : Overview Filters --á Fleet window - Sub-folders for Bookmarks |

I don't know how is the translation is in German but for this "theoretical" French translation, we could just leave some words or terms in english.
After asking some french players about this idea, some of them answered me that they were worried about the fact that some friench players could use the french language, and others the default english language.
They fear that it will be a mess in channels to understand each other..
That's why (I think), the french translation (if there is one) could only be done on missions stories/details, items descriptions (but not necessary all specific terms)...
