Scary how few seem to have any idea who Estel Arador is.
As much as I appreciate the good he has done for the community at large, why the hell should anyone have to "know who he is"? Forum celebrities aren't exactly household names.
I don't see the 'people should know' but there is an aspect of knowledge of a thing, call it learning, if one cared about the game as many claim to, in their efforts many things would become 'common knowledge'. The act of participating in the 'community' would bare the fruits of information and who Estel 'is' would probably follow along with many other people who contribute to the community.
I'd add that the lack of knowledge is 'scary' because it alludes to how many aren't involved in the community, ie don't participate and 'just play the game' which is fine but doesn't make them any more complete or better for their lack of participation, hence knowledge, etc. IT is perfectly fine that people get whatever THEY want out of 'just playing' but it makes them less 'serious' or more 'casual' players IMO than those that do participate in the community even if they just read most of the time.

Also, it's not surprising someone like him did something like this. He (and a few others) treated these forums like their own personal fiefdom, subjecting naive (if innocent) posters to quite nasty attacks. It's bound that they would crack over something like the forums debacle. Poor precious petal (it's alliteration Sunday, don't you know).
Good riddance to bad rubbish imo. I don't care about the jump clone service; while that is a nice thing to do, and I applaud the logistics of running it, it doesn't give one a licence to act like a tard on these forums.

Good question. But, obviously, it's pretty challenging job for CCP.
tbh that question depends on either they want to code a forum from scratch, or just modify a template.
first option is, understandably, hard. second option is too hard to **** up, yet they managed to do that. In hindsight, that, by itself, is actually quite a daunting achievement. ---

If you don't know who Estel is then your knowledge of the Eve universe is very limited. He is personally responsible for saving 1000s of people 100s of hours of grinding standings. Purely based on his Jump Clone operation.
Then all the people he's helped beyond this, those 7500 posts are not from blowing his trumpet, but being helpful whenever he can ( check his posting history while you still can ). The fact that he's being given so much **** by selfish peons who would never lift a hand to help anybody is shameful.
Finally thank you Estel for all the time you have saved me with your awesome service. It has been massively appreciated and I shall miss it in the future.

Probably because there are precious few people that can make unbiased suggestions. Sorting through the howling storm of sh*t produced by ignorant idiots doesn't sound like fun so they don't do it, as a consequence CCP stopped listening to us when they decided all we did was spout sh*t. Which for the most part is true. There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

CCP needs to fit a DCU then call an emergency meeting with the CSM and make sure they never lose so much touch with the community again.

I counter with DCU II ... hell, maybe even two... CCP's gonna be hull tanking this one, with no logi support in sight...

Estel, your jump clone service was invaluable for me as a new player. You and people like you are the reason I play Eve, you make up the community.
I aspire to one day give back to the community to the magnitude of what you have done.

I can't believe that after a full day of "no forums" EVE gate linked me back here. Something has changed at CCP and what was once one of the greatest MMO's in the history of the internet is slowly being run into the ground.
P.s.
How freakin hard it is to make a forum?
Right on dude.
Estel, I don't know you personally but I agree with you 100%. This was the first MMO I ever played. I chose it because it was harder and more in depth than all others. But what I was really impressed with was the commitment to the community. I thought that the development of the CSM would bind CCP closer to its community than any other company out there. I expected them to be responsive and, most importantly, respectful of their player base. I don't see that happening. Fanfest is just shiny paint covering a rusted hull.
I think the ship is sinking and its time to GTFO. After my subscription ends, I am gone.

Sort of...but has Estel Arador done anything that would make people know him other than his free JC service?
I'm not sure -quite- all this *****ing about CCP is necessary. Sure, the whole forum ordeal was a bit annoying, and CCP was certainly at fault...but it's probably much more difficult to create a forum system that's well-integrated with the rest of EVE (e.g. existing characters and accounts) than it is for some random guy to make a phBB forum, so I think people are overstating the fail.

Beeing in the top 100 posters you should know him better for posting good and helpful posts (most beeing in the new citizens Q&A), than for his JC service.
Seeing such a well known and respected member of the community leave for the reasons he stated is a sad thing indeed.
If you actually cared to read the OP, you'd know that it's not about CCP failing to integrate the new forum, but to simply not listening to concerns made months before. Estel simply lost his faith in CCP. Of course it was not just the forums issue, but many little things of which the forum one was the final.

Don't know how true it is, But I heard the security issue in new forum was someone had figured out how to forge cookies and log in as a ccp person. when they found out they perma banned him. he just relogged in on the banned account and had some fun, and down went the new forums fast, if this post is true it will prolly dissapear real fast.

Back about 27 million sp ago my main used Estel Arador's jump clone service, installed several clones, and proceeded to get pwnd in low sec and null sec for great LOL's and fun had by all (including myself, it is after all, just a game).
Had this service not existed, it would have been somewhat more tedious (read standings GRIND) for me to start playing the pew pew game as early as I did.
Estel, Thank you for the service you provided. I hope you don't make the final choice to leave EVE as you have been, and currently continue to be a helpful, intelligent member of our community.
Fly safe, and remember, "The Enemies Gate is DOWN!"
