Any :bittervets: or other out there remember the Amiga computers?
A500, A500+, A600, A1000, A1200 (first amiga with a HDD), A2000, A3000 and the A4000?
What were your favourite games for it? I think mine was Indy Heat and Wings :D

Edited by: Copine Callmeknau on 12/04/2011 05:23:07 yehhhh, I had both an Amiga 500+ w/ HDD, and an amiga 4000 when I was growing up. **** I didn't even get a PC until year 2000 cause these beasts were so good.
Ummm I played K240, coala, settlers, beneath a steel sky, millenium 2.2, whales voyage 1&2, banshee, lots of desert strike, pinball illusions , pinball dreams, lots of arkanoid, mortal kombat 2, simon the sorcerer, scorched earth. There were some other stuff I loved but can't remember the name any more
K240 and desert strike were def my favs though. They're good enough that I occasionally boot up my amiga emulator and play them on PC heh.
I miss the days of a 200 page game manual with backstory etc, and the copy-protection of 'Please enter word 14, line 7, page 128'
I bet I'm the youngest person that replies in this thread btw, I'm 21 and been using amiga's since I was about 4

I had an A500 with the extra 512k ram, then got an A1200.
Banshee was so awesome, one of my favourites too. Desert and Jungle Strike were great, i loved it how you could get extra ammo with a sky hook lol
Beneath a Steel Sky is a game i play now and then, as is Flight of the Amazon Queen

yehhh that 500 was the exact same one I had. Did yours have the little red switch in front of the floppy drive so you could enable or disable the memory upgrade? I remember my old man paid like $800 for that extra 512kb. God knows what the humongous 12mb HDD cost, that thing was just ridiculous
haha, yeh desert strike was so cool. Trying to rescue civilians with that damn rope ladder while you were low on fuel was some hectic ****
BaSS is almost too epic for words. That blew my mind when I first played it. If you haven't played K240 that's worth picking up, it's like a primitive RTS, lots of replayability in that one as you can make a lot of different choices and play a lot of different ways. I think I have a floppy image of it somewhere. Haven't played that Amazon Queen game :o
Just remembered another game I played all the time, Lotus Challenge
I wish they'd remake some of those old games with new epic graphics ya know :p

FOTAQ was an Australian puzzle/adventure game, basically you are a low brow pilot in the 1940's, and you have to fly an actress over the amazon, but crash... after that it is about getting out of the amazon alive. Very funny, and pretty entertaining all round.
And yep, had the same switch to turn the extra ram on and off lol
Lotus 1, 2 and 3... man they were awesome

hah, for reals? I'll have to get that, I knew there were a lot of aussie pirates/crackers for Amiga stuff but didn't know there were many people out here making games
Yeh I had the trilogy, they were heaps of fun. Trying to drive under semi trailers was always a ***** haha

Syndicate, Populous, Pinball Fantasies, Eye of the Beholder, Knights of the Sky... many, many others.
Still have an emulator, various kickstart ROM's and untold games for the Amiga.
Was a fantastic machine in the day and I still play a lot of the old games. Too much style over substance in many games today.
Kras.

Edited by: defiler on 12/04/2011 14:31:26 A500 owner here. No HDD or such fancy stuff, just an extra floppy drive and the memory expansion (no switch on mine), for which I still occasionally change the battery to make sure it keeps time properly. Still remember the joys of having to unplug DF1 as it ate up tiny bit of RAM, rendering a few games unplayable.
Favourite games? Where to begin... Frontier, Syndicate, Settlers, Moonstone, Wings, Cannon Fodder, Pinball Fantasies, Street Rod, Chaos Engine, ...um, I'll stop now.
Still play some of those games on a beefed up machine in WinUAE these days, makes me wish I had had a more powerful Amiga back in the day (the FPS in Frontier isn't too good on a real 500). Oh, and Worms Directors Cut? Best Worms game ever.

I remember having to upgrade my Amiga 500 to 1MB RAM to be able to play this game. At the time it was revolutionary, and took computer RPGs to a whole new level.

Bought an Atari to make music on and it blew up second time i turned it on - warrantied, out of stock, sod it ill have an A1200 instead - best disaster ever to befall me, best decision i made to turn companies.
Sensible software - all of it, desert strike/jungle strike, banshee epic epic epic Frontier...... Octamed, Blitz Basic, 68k Assembler, Imagine 3.x
Got a 50Mhz accelerator and 8meg RAM for Imagine alone - Hard drive... the works in the end.
It did it all, as a computer should. But.... we are better off now than we ever were then

Oh, and special mention to Shadow of the Beast. Gameplay may have been kinda meh, but the outstanding music, presentation, designs, backgrounds and graphics engaged me in a special mood that modern games fail to, in all their glitz and over-inflated budgets.

I too had a 500+ with 512k upgrade
Wings, Settlers, Pirates!, every single Dizzy game ever made, Lotus Turbo Challenge (preferred the 3rd one), Stunt Car Racer, Rick Dangerous.
I would sell my soul to play Wings again, lol
My best mate had an A600 but I didn't like them because they had no keypad.

Parents got me a A600 in 1993. At the time my favorite games were Populous, Syndicate, Hired Guns and Turrican. Got a A1200 last year. Pimped it with a 50mhz accelerator card with 8MB. One of the 'Classic WB' pre packaged Workbench's on a 4GB CF and added AMITCP through a 3com 589D PCMCIA network card. Though there is not much of practical value you can do with an Amiga on the internet. The standard A1200 PSU is actually worse than the A500 one! So I modded a PC PSU that has plenty of juice. The funniest thing about getting the A1200 is that it does not support VGA just RGB through SCART. So I got a hulking 24" CRT TV for ú25 from a charity shop.

Had A1200 with all the bells and whistles, a 4x CD-rom player, 500mb HD, 68060 chip-card with 16mb of RAM, SCSI-BUS, the works.
I sold it later to get my first PC, a decision that I now later have come to regret but then again I shouldn't had sold my c64 for the Amiga either.

<3 Amigas, my first was an A600 which got replaced by a A1200 and then I ultimately had a CD32 although there wasn't many games for that but Wing commander on it was awesome.
My favourite games where things like Gunship 2000 which featured all different kinds of attack helicopters even some experimental ones and games like Space Hulk and Syndicate where also the kind of games I liked.
Out of curiosity can anybody recommend a decent Amiga emulator for Windows so I could play some old Amiga games out of nostalgia?

I purchased Amiga Forever, it was about $50 and came with a few games. Several years ago i downloaded the 21,000 amiga roms torrent that was floating around, but have not had the time to delve into them. Amiga Forever is a pretty damn good emulator.
I remember a game called Ports of Call, was a shipping company simulator, was awesome :)

I don't think I had to do anything to get it to work for me when I migrated to 7. If you kept your old WinUAE folder it's probably something simple like an invalid path or different video/audio hardware in your configs.

Oh my god! Had an A500 then an A1200. Lemmings 1 and 2, Elite, Frontier, Damocles, Mercenary, Body Blows Galactic, Breed 96, Carrier Command (still no equivalent today), Chaos Engine, Guardian (A1200 only :p) Second Samurai, Gloom, Gravity Force 2, Heimdall, Hunter, Moonstone, IK+, Project X, Superfrog, Thunderhawk, SWOS, Uridium 2, and of course Zeewolf!!
Oh the days of INSERT DISK 13
Best thing about recent WinUAE versions... the option to emulate the actual floppy-disk reading noise for ULTIMATE authentic nostalgia!
