I rarely post on the forums, so why do i think this topic warrants a new tread? Well, because lets be constructive for a change, so bare with me for a moment.
tl;dr: watch this Youtube-Video, and tell us what YOU absolutely need in Incarna/CQ to make it remotely useful to you
Well, lets be honest guys, we know Incarna is beeing worked on by CCP, if we want it or not. It will come, it will have certain features and benefits for us. BUT i'm worried. Why? because CCP has an interesting business model, put out a shell of an idea, then iterate on it later. Only that "iterating on it later" seems to always conflict with new features.
So, in light of that reality, lets tell CCP what we WANT in CQ to make it useful NOW, not later. What they should deliver right away, not in some iteration (that may come late or never).
I'm a visual person, so i made this quick mockup about what i think of the tutorial, what Aura could be, and what some functionality should be in CQ to make it worthwile for me personaly.
Now its your turn.

So long as your safe time in station is, at best, limited to 15 mins or so before people can start tracking you down and sticking poison gas canisters in your ventilation or something, I'll be happy with the changes brought in by physical station access.
If there's no direct PvP with real consequences (isk loss, clone loss, etc) then it's getting an indifferent shrug at best. Shiny new packaging for GUIs and an in-game fitting tool are nice, but we've already got those in common third-party apps. ---

You're kind of late there. You should've inputted your opinions and suggestions to the GMs who were on the CQ Testing channel in Duality. I already gave my suggestions directly to them.

LOL u gte the idea.. a place i can model and decorate to be as i want and not how ccp want. OMFG

Well, i don't really think i'm late here. This was just a first test for them, to get some feedback (i did that in written form on day1, but i didn't feel to get the point across so i made some visual feedback).
I'm very pragmatic, i know ccp will work on this technology for further products. The question will be: do we get more then a techdemo? I just don't see it happening yet, let me make a few examples:
- they want to make this immersive, but to be immersive it has to be interactive, it has to bring some usefull functionality. If its just another background, its not immersive. - they want to bring us a better tutorial-experience and hook new players into the game. with a text-window tutorial? really? - they plan to cancel the hangar view. i'm against that not because i'm attatched to the hangar view, but because it thing immersion includes a visual link between pilot->pod->ship->space. If you lose the hangar view, you take a link out of that chain.

Great video :D This is exactly the kind of thing CCP should be working on for the CQ and especially the new player experience.

Wait a few years and get ready to insert a lot of PLEX into it. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

CCP absolutely does NOT have the talent to do what you put in that video. CCP's talent is all backend. I'm not saying putting together something like that video would be hard for a serious game developer. But look at the client. Client-side performance degrades with every single patch. The UI gets worse and more cluttered with every single patch, whether it's gadawful keyboard shortcuts, right-click menus 50 items long and 10 levels deep, or things like wiping out contacts folders with no means to replace them (took a gawd damned year to get a replacement and it's still halfassed.) No, CCP are the UI flunkies of game developers. Asking CCP for a beautiful, slick, intuitive, immersive UI is like... some analogy about something being philosophically impossible. You'd think for a game that's been in development for a decade, the designers would have figured out how to make user/software interactions not suck, but this is CCP we're talking about.
TL;DR - your video rocks, and that's why you'll never see it. CCP is bar none the worst UI development team out there.

Basically you want a second monitor? most of EvE has dual screen setups, so I want more than that.
I'm lookin forward to Incarna but as far as I can tell CQ offers pretty much nothing we cant already do, just a new way to do it.
Need at least 2 pod pilots in a room before any fun can be had =( -----------------

I like how the use of voice and visuals were used to narrate what is going on. This is what constructive feedback and posting looks like. Thanks for sharing.

Very well done. This is user contributed game design at its total best. There are a lot of features in this video that would be really cool and immersive for the new players especially the pilot-pod-ship transition. "Be bold pilot".
Well done TalonClark

Owww I like the capsule part, they really need to reinforce the fact we are capsuleers, not just some dude standing on the bridge of a ship yelling at people.
Cool video nonetheless, everything you put in there would make it more useful and immersive.

Seriously, well done...
CCP, we the player base are begging you to look at this, and to figure out how to implement these ideas. If CQ looks and functions as well as this I can personally say that my faith in you as a company and a group of developers will be restored.
Other things I would love to see: Add functions of EFT into CQ Instead of just being able to see the module, let us be able to see it's effects on our current ship with our current skills.
Pod animation (MUST BE DISABLE-ABLE) - I'd love to see the animation of our character crawling/being sucked into the pod. But it really must be disable-able.. Seriously..
Otherwise I love it.
P.S. - And one more thing. If you could make a visualizer plug that works with the jukebox and gives us a pretty light show as well as letting us add tracks to juke I think I might find a new alternative to ship spinning

Excellent. Extremely well-done. +1 (well, if I could upvote...)
Especially love the ending. We NEED that in-game. The game does not do nearly enough to emphasize how capsuleers actually function. Being able to see your character enter their pod and everything is a huge step forward for both immersion and actual knowledge of the lore (as it gets REALLY annoying when players very obviously know nothing about how you actually pilot the ship... it's kind of a big detail). I hope CCP pays attention to this.

Edited by: Alex Cortex on 26/04/2011 03:50:49 Wow, awesome job. The main thing I agree with is the AURA holographic tutorial system. While not really /necessary/, it's just what I visualized myself. It's enough to grab the attention of new players without having a series of boring tutorial text pop-ups, and a great way to organize the information.
And the pod video. We definitely need that. Isn't that from a trailer CCP released a long while back? If so it should be easy to implement (just have it play on a first-time basis). (edit: I realize it's the Incarna teaser in reverse)
