It annoys me that so called "smart" bombs blow up friendly drones. Is this to happen forever, or will it be changed in the future?

How would you expect an expanding bubble of pure damage, to make tiny wholes of safe space, exactly where your drones are?

I know, it's however...those are stationary objects. Still doesn't make sense, it was just changed because ppl in empire got ganked because of using smartbombs, then they whined, and it got changed.

perhaps it's a really smart bomb and it thinks your allies are inferior beings and tries to destroy them to become the supreme ruler of EVE

It's called a smartbomb because it blows up a large area of space and everything in it, but leaves your ship unharmed. That's smart, wouldn't you say?

Better yet replace it with bloak or dumb. but then again everyone knows the naming schemes in eve don't always truely reflect what they represent. |

A smartbomb, to me, would be something that killed people without damaging structures. So in that sense the smartbomb is a failure as it kills everything. But in the end they are just energy pulse weapons and behave as such. What would be cool is a high slot countermeasure device that killed only drones and missiles.

Its very easy to justify why they wouldn't destroy your own ship, drones or gang members. Its sends out a pulse on a frequency, everything not coded to this frequency takes damage. My shields, drones and gang members would, in an RP sense, also be coded to this frequency. As such you wouldnt have to worry about freindly fire.

I think the 'smart' bombs in the umpteenth century when we are far in advance of ourselves after rediscovering our technology should be able to move towards a nearby ship, latch on, and detonate where it will do the most damage!

You think Smart Bombs are dumb!!!
Why cant my nav computer plot a straight line from my ship to an object ( a gate) then extend the plot 15km and give me a BM??. hey presto, click on a gate and it generates an insta jump.
Life would be sooo (too) easy :)

I belive "smart" is a really old word for "pain" or "damage". Or that could be just me dreaming again.

I think smart bombs came from defender and it's a very smart bomb in that it doesn't blow up your ship, but everything around it.
Coming soon is the genious bomb which will only blow up things that are hostile towards you and can also hold a pretty decent conversation whilst doing so.

Resonance frequencies.. You set the plasma discharge to resonate with specific subspace field harmonics, and then set the drones to resonate at inverse frequency. After that modification, the plasma cannot hit the drones since it's subspace field harmonic is nullified by the drones inverse field, thus causing the energy not to "see" the drone.
Just same stuff that can be done with any wave function.
BTW: Same type of technoly is in use at some modern airplanes as sound dampener technology.

No the splash damaga was changed because using alts in newbie ships as a shield in empire war was a pretty common tactic making Caldari main weapon useless in empire.
