Violent storms and tornadoes in the south-Midwestern and eastern United States have left many homeless and in desperate need. The EVE Online community have asked that for a PLEX drive to aid those suffering in the affected areas. Full details can be seen in CCP Fallout's Blog.

I'm sorry, I just don't see the point of giving money to the US. I DO feel for the people implicated, but there's no way I could understand what they're going trough.
However, besides rescue personal and emergency aid (shelter, food, water, etc.), shouldn't the US be capable of handling most of the cleanup procedure by themselves?
I mean, if the WORLD LARGEST ECONOMY need money from outside to recover, something seems off, IMO.

Trolling comments removed. This is not a discussion of the wealth of individual nations. People are homeless and in desperate need so please donate if you feel this is a cause you would like to support or do not. That is your choice.
Off topic, trolling and flaming replies will be dealt with harshly.

Whilst I fully support this drive to help well deserving people of merica I'm again at somewhat of enpass as to why you constantly pick charities that have high operating costs and as such only yeild a small minute percentage of donations to the intended actions. IE American red Cross operate at around 97% meaning only 3% of donations get to those that realy need it, indeed the director of this organisation earns half a million a year and I for one will not support such ineffecient so called charities.
Please please please find a charity were the donation gets used to do good and not swallowed up in silly overheads.
Is there anybody in America who could put forward a better charity that will do more, I know the church's over there are more suited to helping those in need, can somebody suggest one so that CCP can listern and adress this oversight.
If anybody doubts what I'm saying then please look into it yourselfs, its a education you realy will be supprised at as it's true daly to say :(.
So please CCP pick a charity that operates for the cause and not as some sudo company to pay directors silly money like the American Red Cross does About The American Red Cross - FACTS. Once you know the facts you will see that the whole charity area is poluted with such operational systems and in many cases are just glorified employment companies first and actualy do good lastly.
I'm sure there must be some eve players that know somebody effected, If we were to donate to them then we would achieve more for the money and actualy see results, I know everybody who wants to give would rather that was the case.
lets help these people and not just send money and assume our work is done, lets find a way to release the money were it does the most effect and for that I'd say even any church would be better and I'm a athiest, but I know they do alot more in such times than any commercial charity ever does and they operate as a charity and not as some sudo company were directors and secretarys get paid bank level wages and bonus's.

I agree, program expencies, as defined in that same web site:
" Glossary
Program Expenses: This measure reflects what percent of its total budget a charity spends on the programs and services it exists to deliver."
And its 91.8% of the total.
And that $0.5 million salary is for someone administering a $3 billion a year organization, so its like 0.016%. With that much money being handled, Id want a good high skilled person too.

no because your trolling fell flat on its face
Quote: PLEX for Good is an on-going charitable program initiated by the players of EVE Online. Past drives have assisted the victims of the Haiti earthquake and excessive flooding in Pakistan. Most recently, EVE Online players held a drive to assist those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. To date, EVE Online players have donated over $107,000 USD (over 6100 PLEX) to those in need via this program, with almost $155,000 USD being donated by EVE Online players to charity since 2004.

As someone that has donated PLEXes in the past for at least 2 of these drives, I have a question.
Is CCP going to match these donations?
Currently, CCP is gaining PR and possibly tax breaks on this without actually "paying" anything. Basically money is funneled through the PLEX system, nothing more.
Generally, it is customary for the corporation that allows customers to donate to a cause to match donations.
I hope this is viewed as a challenge for CCP to match their customer's donations and not as some troll.

Having already donated to at least 2 of these drives I would have expected a better understanding of what CCP does regarding the donations.
The cash value of donated PLEX is given in it entirety to whatever organization it is being donated to on behalf of the players.
CCP can not claim this as a tax write off because of who they say it is from, they have stated this previously, they also absorb all additional costs of organization and any kind of additional fees/tariffs/taxes.
They do receive PR.
As far as corporations matching donations, they tend to do it because the extra cost will be offset by the tax break they receive for their direct contribution and the additional claim they can make on their customers donations. That is not to say this is always the main goal of the corporation, but for your every day corporate sponsored donations the tax break is the main incentive.
CCP receives none of that incentive and incurs a cost, which could be very small for all I know.
All that said however I would like to bring up the age old:
Any PLEX that have been destroyed should also be donated.

As a resident of North Alabama, I would like to thank CCP for doing this. Whether it be to the right or wrong charity... at least CCP cares enough about us southerners to put something together and help those in need. I personally didn't lose anything to the tornado except some food that couldn't be refrigerated. We didn't have power on at my house until 10pm last night, and some people still don't have power... and then there are those that don't have a house and I really feel bad for those families. Regarding the Red Cross, though my family did not require the resources of the Red Cross to get through this unfortunate event, I have needed them in the past. I was living in south Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina and the Red Cross kept us fed in addition to doing so many more helpful things for others in town. It's not all about who gets xxx amount of money for damages incurred... sometimes it's about a warm meal, a box of food, a blanket, clothing, someone to help you connect to loved ones, etc so as far as I'm concerned, CCP picked a good charity to donate to.

CCP isn't gaining any tax reduction or other financial profit from those charity drives, they said that already several times.
Also CCP is donating the money not as comming from CCP but on behalf of the EVE Community. |
