There seems to be a lot of speculation around the eve community that hybrid turrets are just not as good as energy turrets. I was just wondering because I took my time and trained for 425 II, wanted to know if it was time well spent or what?

The ONLY place where hybrids currently shine is vanguard farming in incursions. Get t2 blasters, get a vindi, go shoot stuffs |

My personal experience with hybrids is that they don't really shine without good support skills. But once you have level 4-5 in those, they can do well. That is of course if they are also being used by someone who knows how to properly utilize their strengths. And work around their weaknesses. A large majority people recognize missles, lasers, or projectiles as being superior for varied reasons. And in some aspects they can do better circumstancialy. But no I don't think it was a waste of time, just fit and fly right. And you can use them for a lot of things. PVP rails can be useful, and certainly a lot of pve uses. If you have drone skills to back it up.
TL;DR, not a waste of time at all. Just have to use them to their advantages. And you can always cross train now if you really aren't to keen on them.

It is actually more the web bonus that allow ships to handle the frigs/cruisers better at close range, not really the hybrids. I'm still waiting for CCP to give me back my T1/T2 blasterships that offer again what made them effective at point blank(a useful web strength).
In my personal opinion dual TC Legion + taking down the frigs at 40km with Scorch is still preferable as far as overall performance goes(pretty much F1ing them out of the sky with 2-3 volleys w/o any tackle required), even if ships with stronger webs are quite nice to make bigger hulls hit stuff.

Nah try the Navy Mega, that extra low = +1 faction MFS = pew pew in tha face.
Train large 5 it's a waste of time when you could train large autos or artys, take a simple maelstorm and do the same than the kronos or the vindi, for cheaper.

Navy mega sucks compared to the vindi for several very good reasons. First, max 25% damage bonus (vindi gest 37.5%). Second, 7 turrets (vindi has 8). Lastly, and I would like to point out this as being the most important. THE VINDI GETS STRENGTH BONUSED WEBS. That is the ONLY thing that makes it actually useful, because otherwise it has worthless range and guns with too large a size for vans.
If you fly a navy mega in incursions, unless its with rails in assault/HQ sites, you're doing it wrong. Even then... fitting rails to it gives such low damage, that once again, you're doing it wrong...

Explain me how a maelstrom can do 1500 DPS, and yet still have far beyond 100k EHP?

Vindi fit with a setup like that gets a 2001 DPS,the same EHP, and still has room for 2 90% webs (or a web and a MWD, dealer's choice). Also, just throwing this out there, but a single web on a vindi is worth about 4.5 webs on any non-web strength bonused ship. |

I have most of the supporting skills for turrets 5/4. I like the Vindicator incursion blaster idea, but how would a Kronos compare with Blasters or Rails?

For short range, almost as good as Vindi, but not quite. Less dps and ehp.
For long range, better, due to Vindi's lack of targeting range.
Stick to short range, vanguard farming with blasters is where the money is, and where hybrids shine.

Edited by: Songbird on 12/05/2011 19:22:11 I didn't say the fit was practical - it's just that someone said 'show me a mael fit with so and so stats' If I wanted a practical fit I'd put faction EMP ammo, 2 tracking enhancers 3 gyros and tougher tank and I'd start shooting at things from 45km, not wait for them to rub their fat butts against my paint.
face it - vindi has 8 turrets and 37.5% dps bonus - it didn't get that huge DPS boost because hybrids rock, it got it because hybrids suck so much they need all the help they can get - even if it means getting 12.5% more damage bonus that most ships out there.

No offense, but you have no clue what you're talking about. You will get shot by incursion rats, the "gank them from further away" mentality does not apply.
Blasters do rock in vanguard blitzing, due to reasons they suck in other situations not applying. It is as much a part of the reason Vindi performs so well as the web bonus.

"you'll get shot by rats"? That's the big deterrent ? Of course you'll get shot at - but that's why you have logistic ships.(I watched a vanguard site video - shield tanked group - they didn't have any problems - not sure why a maelstrom would be in so much trouble?)
I'm not sure what exactly "vanguard blitzing" calls for, but I'm pretty sure a paladin with pulses will be good at it too. Also I suspect the "good at it" part comes from having a web bonus.
ah well , it's not like having trained hybrids stops you from training something else - it's always nice to have something extra.
And think about the time when they do fix hybrids - you'd be ahead then :)

It is actually the only reason, if you have some well skilled Zealots/Legions, you don't need the tackle overkill at all since they will drop the firgs faster than you can primary them. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

Vindis are supposed to pop one frig on each volley. You lock the entire spawn at once, and pop them at the speed of your ROP. Primary do not apply, since each fleet member web and volley their own rat. This is especially useful in OTAs. Bhaalgorns do this too, but more slowly due to lower rop, at longer range. Paladins are slightly less relaible at volleying, as they can't web far out, so megapulse's lower tracking isn't completely compensated, as is the case with Bhaalgorns.

Using only a vindi as DPS, I can clear an NCO in 7minutes from payout to payout. Also to whoever said it's 1 volley per frig, it's actually 2, unless you get a well aimed shot. If it was 1 volley per frig a vindi flown perfectly could in theory clear an NCO on its own (with rep support ofc) in 2 minutes >_< |

It is called Denial.
Until CCP drops the charade and puts into a patch notes "Hey dumbasses. Caldari = PVE, Minmatar = PVP" people are still going to think that "you know, maybe one day Gallente, Hybrids or Amarr ships will be the best ships!".
CCP needs to do everyone a favor and just remove all Gallente and Amarr ships from the game.
