I like the idea of having a bridge/first person view. For small crewless ships (shuttle, frigate etc) the camera would be just on the nose...for crewed ships, perhaps the view could be a camera on the aft wall of the CIC, looking at a screen showing a straight-forward view. There could be generic crewmen sitting at consoles or holo-screens by the side of the screen. No pod-removal, reminder of crew existence, fun for RP, and fits the original purpose. NOTE: While I'd like to have an easier way to move my ship around warp-blocking rocks, I realise that joystick/direct control is not viable. |

windows aren't glass silly - they're transparent aluminum, see Star Trek for technical details.
Yes - vast transparent aluminum sheets that scream "SHOOT HERE FIRST!!!" --Vel

This is EVE. PVE can happen anywhere at anytime. Be prepared.

I don't see a problem with this, he isn't asking for joysticks or a change of game mechanics, just a cool view. And CCP has stated there are crewmen on the ships.

Have fun RPing a crew member. Most of us enjoy being a pilot. |

Half the posters here need to learn2read. He is NOT asking for joystick control, he is NOT asking ccp to throw away lore, and he is NOT changing game mechanics in anyway. Its just a new ship view broguht to you by your bridge security camera. All ships probably have them, why can't the dude nuerally intigrated into the ship take a look?

Because the time spent coding this, coding and animating the crew, reactions to combat, ship loss etc etc etc would be much better spent on something useful. Even walking in stations would be more interesting than watching a couple of dozen guys wander back and forth for days on end.

IIRC, the idea is to have this as an optional view. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.

Originally by: Reicine Ceer If CCP did this and desired a RP reasoning, they could take on the concept of the ship-avatar system that was used in the SF show Andromeda. It's a nice idea; the ship (in EVE's case, the pod pilot) has an Avatar through which they can interact with other people, get about the physically and such.
This'd also allow for Incarna to give players the ability to simultaneously wander around their ship/bridge and properly play THE GAME in the classic EVE style.
Or sommat.
Holy $*&% thats an awsome idea! |

Perhaps a slightly easier to code version would be having the camera attached to the outside of the ship. Creating a visible bridge let alone crew would take forever to code, but you could still have an alternate camera mode based on cameras attached to the ship.
I imagine three camera points defined on each ship model. Each would correspond to Zone with a 120 degree horizontal arc, and a 180 degree vertical arc, i.e. 1/3rd of a sphere. Click the default camera view button while already in default camera view, i.e. double click, to toggle modes. In this mode you can rotate the view, moving out of the 120 degree horizontal arc switches your from between camera points, a little jarring but more realistic. Some views would allow you to see sections of your own ship from up close, most would not. Warping and other actions that cause the turrets to retract would also cause your view to switch, as the camera drones have to dock in warp. |

Edited by: Aeropride on 09/07/2011 04:59:38 i would love to have a cockpit view in eve. I played black prophecy the other night with 4 monitors and a joystick. lets just say it was not "it was like i was there" it was "I WAS there". Much more immersion combat wise then eve will ever accomplish. |

I think the cockpit view is by lore and technically out of the question, at least while in a strenous or combat situation. But you could get a walking on ships-function, this would be interesting when having a conversation between corporation managers, or leading stuff of alliances. And of course would be a good preparation for battle on ships which could be implemented via the Dust Ego-shooter.
