There appears to be a preview option in the AUR store already, but loading each item takes a while...
Yes, but you can't see how they will go with your character, or other clothing and accessories you've purchased... And that is really the core of the problem.

The trouble is they created the New Character Creator (NCC) for the purpose OF creating character portraits, or modifying them.
Its only now that we are about to start using the same tool to change clothes in incarna that suddenly it has/lacks features suitable for the task.
The two big ones being that it forces the creation of a new portrait every time you use it. And, now we use it in-game and not just on start-up, while in it you can't chat, but you don't disappear/get tagged as unavailable in chat either. Adding chat to the NCC could be tricky (although on my dual screen setup I have the space, I realise not everyone else will) but making the portrait at the end optional should be pretty easy.
It will also reduce image server load by reducing the number of new portraits it has to render, and reduce our bandwidth usage by reducing the frequency of portrait changes so our caches don't get out of date so fast. (that said portraits should be able to be turned off in-game to reduce lag and increase the space available for chatting. plus it would allow you to see a larger portion of those in the more populated chat channels. but that's a whole other discussion.)
More very good points.

Why thank you
I would have to agree that your suggestions for the NCC and new vanity store are also pretty good. I just object to microtransactions on principle, so I am ignoring the vanity store entirely. __________________________________________________

Edited by: Junko Sideswipe on 28/05/2011 01:50:58 1. Rate the graphics performance
[1] Yeah it's just as bad as last build, album of screenshots here, majority of them were taken on full settings. I keep getting that weird black overlay on top of my screen with random transparent squares. Depending on docking up and switching screens sometimes the screen was completely black, sometimes it's pretty transparent.
2. Rate the overall performance
[2] The new gun animations are sexy. Sometimes they don't retract when I'm in warp though.
3. General feedback
Extremely worried I'm not going to be able to do anything Incarna-related when it comes out when you're this close to release. Performance on lower end systems is pretty terrible even on med/low settings.

Graphics Performance - 3/5 I get 20-30 fps for my system, which is nice considering the look of the CQ.
Overall Performance - 2/5 Everything works well, besides my character rendering in bright colors. I tried to change appearance in menu, didn't change. I'll edit this post later if I find a fix.
General Feedback - The feel of the CQ is what I was expecting from EVE, the only problem I have besides my character rendering (explained above) is the movement feels different, it may take some time to get used to.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) Rated a 4. Overall good shape, with some nasty flickering lights. UI clicking was perfectly smooth.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) Rated a 4. Perfect environment, the interaction system is spot-on. My big complaint though is the lag in moving the avatar around. I have to fight with the controls to get him to walk around. He walks slow, turns slow, no strafe that I could find, and is very slow changing his direction.
3. General feedback This is the first time I have done the Incarna/NPE. To cut to the point, it's amazing. A quick list of the highlights. -Training academy with the ships in space -Agent Finder -Being able to click news-feeds on the main window
Of course the helpful part is the next section, problems. Problems during the PLC missions: --Once I undocked for the first time there was no prompting from Aura on how to warp to a mission location. Upon warping the tutorial continued. (The warp to mission location tutorial comes in at the second mission) -- When the tutorial part tells the pilot to dock at the station for the first time, the overview window is so small only something like Amen VI - Moon appears to the player. No indication it is a station. A wider overview default with categories would help. -- During the second combat tutorial when you lock and fire at the Fuel depot, every shot misses since you are out of range. The only message that a new pilot gets however is a "misses completely" with no hint that the long range is the culprit. Perhaps a text entry during this step about ranges and a hint. ( The range tutorial comes in the next step when you fight the attackers)
General Problems: -- Why is there an option to "Leave Sofa" when I am standing up? In the same vein selecting the sofa from a seated position to stand up is difficult. The highlight field is small.

So, I'm not going to bother typing out a bunch of words.
In brief, this build is ****ing fantastic and exactly what I was hoping for. The pod gantry is the icing on the cake. The monitor-screens are intuitive and visually appealing. The new UI is fantastic and I hope to see it in space. The agent finder is awesome even though I hate goddamn missions. The corp finder is pretty much the best thing ever. The lighting looks natural. Pretty much everything is ****ing cool.
My only complaint is that my ship slowly rotates in the hangar. That's irritating and makes it seem smaller than it is.
Otherwise, ****ing great job.

Love it but.
Got some lighting Issues.
And just one item. You REALLY need a cut scene for leaving station. Give people the option to turn it off if they wish.
Just my opinion but a little polish goes a long way.

Your card with a Modern card , its just to old and to slow. The card is physically incapable of supporting most of the game.
I got ATI Radeon HD 2600 and it runs the game perfectly fine with 1600x1200 resolution and medium detail level. Got zero plans to upgrade just because of some station walking. If it doesn't work, Ill just play without station ui... if that is not possible, Ill unsub for few months untill I find real reason to upgrade my rig. The eye candy is least of the priorities I value in a game.

My critique:
Graphics are awesome. Kudos to the developers for doing a job well job. The quarters sure look better than the old demos from the prior Fanfests. Of course, we have yet to see how the Gallente/Caldari CQ looks like at the moment.
Overall performance: 3 out of 5 (see reasons below) 1. There is an unusual artifact that appears near the entrance of the CQ that looks like the mesh of my avatar that somehow allows me to see right through the walls and floor of the CQ. It also seems to change a bit whenever I use the character re-customization option. I hope you guys are aware of this.
2. Frame rate averages at about 25 FPS under ideal conditions. However, whenever I stroll around the hangar balcony or sit on the sofa, the FPS dips to below 10 FPS. The FPS restores whenever I either alt-tab in and out of the client, use character re-customization, or undock from the station and dock back. I have Windows Vista SP2 32-bit OS, 4GB of RAM, Intel Core2 Quad 2.4GHz, and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX and a 1TB hard drive.
3. In rare occasions when I fit a outer jacket without the shirt on my avatar, parts of the torso and arms became semi-transparent. This got fixed when I added a t-shirt under the sleeve-less jacket.
Everything Else: Can you please relocate the holographic "UNDOCK" on the stair case to a little bit closer to the pod? I like to see how the POD looks up close before I decide to get into it. Other than that, excellent job on the CQ. It seems like you folks at CCP were hiding your true visual talent there. Keep it up.

Two bugs I've found so far:
- When standing on the balcony in an amarr station, looking at my ship, the reflection in shades/aviatior glasses is inconsistent depending on the camera angle. From -30 to 30 degrees, there's very little reflection, but anything past 30 degrees gets full blown reflections all of a sudden. There's a transition problem there.
- When changing my settings from everything at highest down to no AA, medium quality textures, high quality shaders and low quality station environment (HDR and depth ON), my character disappears apart from the hair (no color, it's all black), just floating in the air. It's pretty funny. I'm playing on an nvidia 9600M GS with v257.21 drivers. ____________________________________________

It isnt optional, it replaces the current hanger. That card isnt that old, it is at least a PCI express card.

Looks very nice overall. No significant performance issues even on a lower-end non-gaming laptop with high shaders, although started getting heating issues with all settings maxed out. Looking forward to the release version, and to seeing what the other factions' quarters look like. Noticing three issues:
- The client is still a huge memory hog, although it still does not compare with Ragnarok Online for needless abuse of system resources. The EXE file for EVE is now using around 850MB of RAM when CQ is running even on moderate-low settings. Not a huge issue, but could pose a problem for older machines.
- The couch doesn't always work, and the character has to be facing the middle of it in order to get the bounding box to appear sometimes. There is no way to control which slot the character sits in anymore.
- There is no animation for the character walking to the couch if the couch is activated with the character not standing right in front of it. I activated the couch with the character behind it, and the character froze in place like a toy soldier, hopped over the couch, 'snapped' to the couch and then sat down on it. It looks really, really bad.

Edited by: Daedalus Maynard on 28/05/2011 06:25:53 When was Duality last mirrored? would love tobe be unexpired :)
reason: Account subscription expired!
Also noticed that the maller animation on the login screen, sometimes glitches, the ship just disapears or gets stuck in one possition.
what im doing: writing this thread, I then alt tab over to eve, the ship had just warped in and started to move right as the login screen loaded up, but it's stuck in position, untill it resets must be after the animation has run in memory. Managed to freeze the maller a few times only just after warp in.
Win 7 64bit 4 gig RAM
Will other ships be available? would be awesome to have a myrm jump in and launch some drones which fly off while shooting it's rails :)

1. Graphics Performance - 2
2. Overall Performance - 2
3. General feedback: (Graphical/Performance) When I first entered my CQ, nothing but my neocom/station panel/chat windows were visible. Everything else was dark, as if the lighting had been disabled. It took a few tweaks of the graphic settings as well as Alt+Tabing a few times for the CQ to be displayed properly. Current Graphics settings: HDR Disabled; AA Disabled; Post Processing Low; Shader Quality High (I have found that I have less visual artifacting using High compared to the lower settings which bug out more frequent); Texture Quality Medium; LOD Quality Medium; Shadow Quality Disabled; Interior Effects Medium. Regardless of my settings, I still experience graphical glitches/distortions with parts of my character, mainly the head/face. Average fps 10-18fps with current settings.
Bug Report ID: 111176
(Tutorials/Comments) The new tutorial features/presentation is awesome. I think they are a huge improvement over the previous tutorials. I envy new players as I feel the introduction to EVE is now more well refined and complete compared to when I first played.
Whats with the trash pile in the corner of my CQ? I want my CQ clean dammit!
Will we have the ability to pick up and move/place objects (Quafe bottles for ex)? It would be neat if we could do so.
I think the current ship rotation is too slow. Speeding it up slightly as well as adding some more "bob and hover" movements would be more enjoyable to look at.
I am looking forward to checking out the other races CQ's as well as a more optimized build. Keep up the good work CCP.

Something I did made the mirror unclickable. And the only thinks I had done were walk around, click on a couple monitors, and enter/exit the sofa. It was probably that damn sofa.
Also, the Incarna interface... While I like it, a couple things:
Not a big fan of having a highlight bracket and a box to click. Why not just allow clicking within the bracket to activate the label box? Seems kind of clunky the current way.
Shouldn't the Neocom be made to match so we can have a consistent interface appearance?

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) : 4 General performance is good. I have an average frame-rate of 50FPS. However the UI menu, still lags behind, when browsing through the item list.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale): 4
3. General feedback - Control: Please change the control, like it's in a FPS game. When I press the W to go forward, and I change the direction with the mouse, I expect that the character will follow that direction. - I missing the option to RUN. Preferable with the SHIFT key. With the current speed it takes to long to get from one place to the other. - Error message when changing ships to fast: "You're halfway onboard already. Please wait. Estimated time left for getting the other half aboard is XX second" I suggest to change the text, as you are not in the ship. - Since when have laser turrets recoil? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shields are like pants, they're supposed to come off. Problems: The interface is sometimes hard to trigger (sitting down, using other items) 2/5 There is no off button as in: load the old station environment for speed's sake 1/5 Toon movement around the environment still isn't totally fluent (walking into walls etc) 2/5 In high quality I sometimes get very wierd god rays. These go away in lower quality 2/5 With respect to monocles, will it be possible to put a monocle over the blind eye bodymod? I might want a somewhat steampunkish 'bionic eye'.
Hope this helps.
