Current Stargate

What was wrong with those visual effects and why were they scrapped, leaving stargates with no effects at all?

CCP wont bring old effects back, but they're also not intending to keep the current ones.
Not too long ago they hired a new artist who's gonna rework ALL effects in the game, like fields, muzzle effects, shields and so on.

yeah all the stargate effects (including the cloaking/decloaking effects)
and also the current shield hardner effects tend to make certain ships uglier, like a shield tanked vindicator or a nightmare etc.

The old VFX are not compatible with a specific engine enhancement they made a while back. The new jumping effects were and still are essentially placeholders. There is a team working on that stuff right now, along with new fonts and scalable font sizes.
Whether we will see it any time soon, I'm not sure.

Some of the new gates look pretty good, the main thing I miss about the old gates are the jump sounds.
They actually sounded better IMO than the new ones.

Oh my god, those look amazing.
Hopefully they'll make some new effects soon. Don't see why those were scrapped though.

I did read the thread, the only reason I saw for it is that they hired a new artist. But why remove them until the new ones are finished though?
