One of my least favourite part of this game is when I'm being warp jammed and having my ship blown up in like three seconds. Aside from the obvious annoyance, and lost of isk, what really hack me off I that I don't realise that I'm being jammed! By the time I work out what is going on, boom, no time for a plan B. Would it be too much to have a bloody great RED "LED" on the control panel to tell me I'm being nailed to the floor?

There is a scramble notification on the overview already.
Try and be a bit more aware of what is happening on screen rather than requesting something that already exists.
Learn to fit your ships better.
Learn how to keep your ship alive, it's not that hard if you aren't actively seeking out fights.

How to determine if you are warp disrupted:
Are you being attacked by another player? -> Yes -> You are warp disrupted.

I actually suggested a HUD modification to show EWAR effects on your ship before. Add to that targetted ships having their effects on you visible on the left of their icon, and that would be cool.
For the HUD, I think indicator lights beside EWAR icons would be cool, along with color on the indicator lights giving you an idea of how badly. 1 Point being yellow, 2 being Orange, and 3 or more being Red. Same goes for Stasis, ECM, and the like. We need more console and less overview.

Not entirely true. I've seen Pirates joking in local about killing some guy when he didn't try to warp off because he made that assumption. They didn't even have points on them, and apparently didn't need them 9 times out of 10.

I'm curious what possibly your plan B would have been... other then still blowing up ofcourse.

Plan B is try to make it to the gate back to highsec. Unfortunately, with stasis webs on you, 12 km is 99% likely to be too far. I know from personal experience that a Drake and a Navy Omen can gank a Passive tanked Drake in this distance. I was still 4 km off gate when my ship blew up, though I might have had a better chance if I hadn't incited the gate guns

Plan B? Well in this case charge his Drake at full speed, fire up the mining laser, and chuck cargo expander modules at him. Plan A was trying to warp to a safe spot, with hindsight just jumping back through the gate probably would have worked. In my defense, M'Lud I'm back and forth that 0.4 system all the time and there isn't normally anyone camping the gate. Well that and I suck at PvP in this game lol

I think people would take you more seriously if you'd asked for the current notification of being scrambled to be made more obvious.
If you are unaware of this then on your overview, on the right hand side of the row which shows the other pilot there would be a scrambler icon. Also you get a pop up notification when it starts.
You could argue that it needs to be more idiot proof but I don't think it needs to be made any more obvious. The information is there at the end of the day.
and if you're finding yourself in a 'boom, no time for plan B' then what use is a notification? Surely your problem is your inability in combat here...

You're kidding right? Capacity, shields, armor, hull, heat, etc., are in the pretty console but the fact you're getting scram'd is a pop up notification that lasts a fraction of a second and appears as tiny icon in the target list.
If CCP designed police cars, the flashing blue lights would be attached to the rear bumper and the siren would be hooked into the car radio.

cap, shields, heat etc are relevant to YOUR ship. Having the ewar notifications on the overview makes sense so you know exactly who it is that's scramming you or applying ewar.
Having it on the console would be stupid. Do you even play this game?

Nothing in eve is idiot proof, because eve is not for idiots.
That said the ewar notices on the overview are a crappy solution to displaying that information. Anything that requires squinting at tiny icons to know important information is a poor UI choice.

No imagination. Maybe add a "target-back" button/list on the console when you're hit with ewar? It would be a shortcut to lock the target or to sic your drones on them. Personally, I'm not a big fan of a HUD that requires you to split your attention or play hide and seek for information like Eve's interface does.
As the OP suggested an LED indicator would be a great start given the clumsiness of the overview.

You're missing the point here I think, or are you just one of those people who, once they're scrammed, it's certain death?
If you're a half decent combat pilot, it's important to know WHO is scramming/jamming/neuting etc etc.
Putting a 'no hope beacon' on your main console where cap and the rest are will not tell you that unless you list all the ships who are jamming you. If you do this then you're simply duplicating information from the overview on screen and I've got to say, there's already a lot of info filling our screens...
So yes, perhaps its a good idea if it were a one v one scenario...but introduce more pilots and all of a sudden the obvious display is just not as helpful as the current system...

Compromise. Make the ewar tags a proper, configurable column in the overview. Make it so that you can have multiple overviews on the screen. That would make it easier to manage data instead of having the flip between tabs on the current overview or trying to find tiny icons.

Instead of having an unknown timer bar and a tiny little icon tucked away on the edge of your monitor put something on the Heads Up Display cause it's not giving me much of a heads up at the moment.
Or even just give the ewar icons their own column and make them a bit bigger so we can put them wherever.

It takes less than a second to glance to your overview and determin who is warp disrupting/neuting and make choices on what to do from there.

I like Jagga Spikes old proposal but I would like to go a bit further and make it show all projected affects, both positive and negative, and the ability to see exactly how much you are being affected. But put it in another window instead of the HUD so you can move it around. For example, if someone is tracking disrupting me I could hold my mouse over the TD symbol that would appear in the list of effects, then you could see how much your range and tracking is being reduced in %. Another example could be if you're in a mining op with an booster you could see what % bonuses you get to yield, range and cycle time.
The symbols on the overview should stay so you can tell who is doing what to you but it would be nice with an easier way of telling exactly what is being done to your ship by both allies, enemies and possibly the environment.

If you're jammed and you are dying in 3 seconds, the big RED LED isn't going to do anything other than make you see red even more right before you die.

Edited by: Oarta on 12/06/2011 10:07:27 It's a sound idea. Your center console lets you know the status of modules, shields, hull, etc. It would be nice to know the status of your Warp and Targeting abilities.
This would lead you to then look towards the overview to see the cause. Just as you look to see who has you targeted, should you not hear the annoying sound, when your shields and hull start to disappear. |

That's pretty easy to ignore when 99% of the time it doesn't have anything to do with you. Come to think of it, I can't recall ever getting that notification in a fleet fight or when I've been webbed and scrammed on a lowsec gate by a couple pirates. Just around stations in Highsec actually, like some commentator on station is calling hits for the crowd.
The idea of having notifiers as a column in the overview is good, but I still like the idea of adding HUD lights like you would find on any given ship that actually had to fight in real combat. You know, Incoming missile warning, target lock warning, etc..
If I had a first person Field of View, manual flight controls, and a proper console I'd never need an overview. Too many distractions anyway. Just a flight yolk complete with weapons systems, and your window to the world. There's no room for instinct in EVE, which is I think, part of the problem.
A blinking light on your Console isn't really going to hurt anybody, and niether is another two. After awhile of current overview, you sort of get used to the clunkiness of it, but some people will never get good at it.
The trick is of course, to ignore your front and center, expand your actual combat overview, and make sure you have it set up for just PvP, then forget about what you're looking at around your ship, and just use that. Limits distractions, but then you're just clicking on a spreadsheet of reds. A lot of new players don't get this and it has nothing to do with intelligence. It's mostly that the combat system is 90% pen and paper when they're accustomed to, and expecting, something else.
