Send car in to paint shop, spend some aurum, get car back with new paint job some time later. So... why such the anger? That is if thats going to be the system that going to be taking place.
Of course I've tried to keep up with the storm though and I do belive that the current interation that's being protested for the first at launch is a bad idea, new ship out of thin air would degrade miners/mineral market even further but I think that may get shot down in time by the community and hopefully if devs listen. The anger is because that wasn't going to be the system for a couple of monthsà then it was just going to be the system for a week. Even that is too much, though, and there's really no reason not to hold that particular item back until they've iterated on the story to the point where it can actually handle those kinds of trades. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Thing is, your first sentence is something most people here would agree with. But what CCP is pushing out currently is the second (ship from thin air) wich is why people are so up in arms about. Acoording to the devblog, the Aurshop is unable to accept two currencies at once (ship + aur) hence it's aur only.
My suggestion is to wait with introducing ships or any other eve item that requires minerals till they sort out the aurshop so it can accept more then one form of currency per transaction. That will calm down alot of the rage on the forum. -------------- Cleaning up wrecks others leave behind! Got to keep space clean! |

The anger was because CCP was going to offer direct ship purchases for Aurum, making them appear out of thin air. There isn't a problem if people have to supply a ship to get painted. If they create ships out of thin air, it will mess up the market because people won't have to buy the ships people produce in game for ISK any longer, and can choose to purchase with Aurum.

The other thread(s) had several folks angry over the first paragraphs interation though which made my wonder why?
Second interation mentioned though I can fully understand and support the delay of the store until the store can accept ships as payment.
One more complaint I would have saved for later would be to seperate standard and customized ships on the market menu not have both of them share the same one. Makes shopping a bit more of a hassel. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 3APR11

I have no problem with paintable ships. Do have an issue with ships coming from black magic (AUR).

Equivalent exchange that results in nothing but a re-skin is grudgingly accepted by essentially all parties. They're a lousy precedent for EVE Online and CCP doesn't fully appreciate the amount of future busywork they're creating for themselves in the process. However, since swapping a Scorpion for a repainted Scorpion doesn't alter the sandbox, we aren't complaining about that.
The rage came from CCP planning to introduce these re-skinned scorpions without requiring another scorpion in exchange; it was going to be Scorpions for Aurum, created out of thin air. Zifandel misrepresented the CSM and claimed that they endorsed that "feature". There is absolutely no good reason to go forward with Ships for Aurum and nothing else. We're angry because Reskinned Scorpions for Aurum, for all intents and purposes, looks like a transparent ploy by the Marketing department, and possibly executive managers, to see how we'd react to their efforts to undermine EVE Online's sandbox for profit.

Oh, and another source of anger is that this episode suggests a deep-seatedà wellà stupidity, for the lack of better word, on the part of CCP. The very idea of releasing an in-game shop that creates minerals out of nowhere ù even if it's just for a limited time ù hints at a fundamental ignorance of the inner workings of their own game. This is a very scary thought, which evokes an wide range of emotions among the players who recognise the importance of this core functionality.
Based on these suggestions and hints, people have no problems extrapolating an image of a game company taking the hobby of these gamers down a highly destructive pathà and the worst of it is: it might not even be intentional on CCP's part. It makes it seem like they're accidentally ruining their own game through sheer clumsiness and lack of forethought, which just makes people even more irate. If it was a vision to fundamentally change parts of the game, then people might get on board, but no-one can go along with a fundamental incomprehension being the prime factor for change. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I just posted something to this effect in the other thread.
Let's not forget the introduction of PI and how the **** ups introduced there are going to affect the PI market for years to come due to CCP incompetence. ~~~

It was not ignorance, and it was no accident that exchanging gold for in-game items was finalized by CCP first, and redeeming in-game items plus gold is an afterthought.

There is no way in this game to acquire a Raven Navy Issue without destroying a bunch of stuff including LP and ISK. Either trade a Raven and a bunch of stuff for a RNI (or "CNR"), or trade a bunch of stuff for a Raven Navy Issue (Blueprint) which you then have to pour a lot of minerals into in order to get a Raven Navy Issue out. Ingame stuff gets destroyed -> Raven Navy Issue becomes available. It's a conversion process.
This is vastly different to simply rocking up to the LP store, putting LP in and getting a Raven Navy Issue out.
Even that involves more of the game economy than rocking up to the MT store, putting real dollars in and getting a (painted) Raven out.
The problem is that the MT store handing out ships for dollars totally violates the ingame economy. You'll have folks in nullsec flying whatever ship they can buy from the MT store, because buying from the MT store is easier than shipping ships or materials down from hisec. Lay siege to an outpost and lock down every gate into the system, you won't be fighting a war of attrition since the guys you're trying to wear down can just pour more money into the game and create new ships out of thin air.
Do you see the problem?

The vast majority of those transactions require you to sacrifice a ship to get a ship, in addition to the LP/ISK costs. But even for the (few) pirate ships where it's not needed, you're trading in-game created stuff for in-game created stuff, and you're still subject to the creation balance and limitations mechanics this entail.
This is not the case with the first iteration of the AUR shop. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

This is not what was stated.
To get for instance the Ishukone Watch Scorpion you have to take a normal Scorpion you already own and give it to the store plus Aurum to get the IW Scorpion. Thus they were not out of thin air.

Just one problem: the first version of the AUR shop will not be able to accept any other kind of payment than AUR, so you can't give that normal Scorp to the store.
Thus, the ship would be created out of thin air. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

From what he said the IW Scorpion wouldn't be available until it could take other forms of payment either....

àthat's the packpedalling version that appeared after 14 pages, yes. Initially, this was not the plan that was presented.
And even now, there's still talk of a one-week period of "testing" with it being available in the non-trade-in store. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I think a lot of people have made their opinions very clear on the subject, so the Ishukone Watch Scorpion will not be offered in the way it was initially presented (i.e. without a trade-in). More information is available here and here.

I don't understand why they want to do this MT thing... Are they not profiting from the current system as it is? Are they trying to compete with FTP mmo's?
I personally think that Eve is in some way unique from all those games because of the system they currently have...

Excellent. The wording in those posts was still kind of ambiguous. If I was a politician, I'd have been able to lawyer those words to mean whatever I wanted. Thank you for saying it in clear terms.
However, would you please do us the favor and say in just as clear terms that NO SHIPS will be offered that way, not just THAT PARTICULAR ship?

It's all about money, even subscription games can use a MT store to make boatloads of cash. Just look at Blizzard offering pets and mounts for 10-25 bucks respectively. If any company doesn't need the additional revenue, it's Blizzard.
But there are plenty of people out there that are willing to drop a 2 or 3 bucks (or 25 for that matter) for some cosmetic goody. From a business standpoint it makes perfect sense to tap into this. As long as CCP keep it cosmetic and keep things to what they've said in their posts today it really shouldn't be an issue.

People, what a fuss for a silly golden Scorpion... was it really worth it, CSM & CCP? Couldn't wait to have it all A-OK with the trade-in system first?
I mean, what was the hurry to have a golden Scorpion ingame? Even before there was in place the appropiate technical stuff?
It's been fun to read the ragenaught, though.

Edited by: Kastigar Antarius on 15/06/2011 06:55:37 I'm honestly sort of confused as to why they didn't take the "pay some Aurum and get the pain app available to every scorp you buy" route. Just have like a drop down menu that you cycle between paint apps w/e you want in the fitting window.
I guess it isn't as lucrative that way, but it probably would have avoided the **** storm entirely.

I'm cool with that.
Can't hate on Blizzard though. I don't play WoW, but they know how to make good quality games. Matter fact I think I'm gonna play some starcraft 2 multi while I wait for this to blow over.
