Edited by: Ranger Whitestar on 18/02/2005 02:20:33 lost a ship to lag? died because a bug stopped you doing what you needed to do? flown 12 jumps for an important(story line) mission to find nothing there? basically any of the reasons you can think of that need fixing. NOW!!!!! not after the next update blah blah blah balh.
then join me in what could be the biggest opportunity for us the players to make our feelings known. boycott the server, yeah that's right i said boycott the server. on sunday after the reboot (11am till 12pm GMT) make sure you have a skill training that will cover it, and dont log in till 1pm (GMT). that way they will have a log showing barely any activity on the server, and will have no chioce but to take note. the whole community is getting frustrated with the constant problems. how many suffer bugs etc and never bother petitioning as they feel it will get them nowhere, i bet it's alot more people than CCP think.
so if you have suffered from something that cost you a ship. or a bug that screwed you out of anything dont log in. if you know somebody who has had a problem or a corp mate, but not you personally show your support for them and dont log in. post it on your corp boards, tell your corp mates in corp chat. lets all stand as one on this issue of bugs and lag. and make CCP take note, we are not happy and not going to live with it.
and if you think this is a stupid idea and have no intention of showing your support for those who have suffered, remember it may be you next who suffers the frustration these issues bring. so help now to stop it before you have to suffer the same issues some people have.
why should we accept a service we pay for that at times is sub standard, would you accept the same sort of service from your electricity company, your car dealer, or even your local food store? NO! so why should we accept here? is this not a service we pay for? do we not expect that it to be above the standard we have now 95% of the time instead of 20% of the time? cos i for one am sick of the constant "we are working on it" replies, that means nothing to me, it's results that matter.
so join me and lets show CCP we want results, not promises of results. as its getting to the point where promises mean nothing. don't think i'm right? then ask yourself how many features etc have never materialised that were promised with expansions. and im not just talking about exodus, i think ive made my point about actions speaking louder than words.

Edited by: Vernn on 18/02/2005 02:32:10 Edited by: Vernn on 18/02/2005 02:31:20 While I appreciate your feelings I think most customers of MMO's somehow get the impression that the companies they pay their money to don't care about them or the problems with their products.
In reality, in every case this is usually wrong in my opinion. The people working for CCP aren't brain dead drug addicts. These are highly educated and highly motivated people. Frankly I was stunned when I found out that CCP only has 25 employee's. To this day I still find it incredible that such a complex game was made and maintained by only 25 people. Thats absolutely incredible.
Also while im no programmer, I did work in the computer networking field for several years, and there are certain problems with computers/hardware/programming that only God himself knows the answer too. Irregardless of how good or experienced the programmer, sometimes finding bugs is just a HUGE undertaking. Trying to find a logic bug in millions of lines of code can be a very daunting task.
I hate bugs as much as everyone else, and I do think CCP should probably communicate with their customers a bit better as to just what they are doing to try to solve these problems. The reality however is that this game does not have enough subscribers to warrant hiring the sort of man-power needed to handle fixing bugs quickly. Companies like SOE and Blizzard have million and millions of dollars and hundreds of employees to throw at these problems and still sometimes it takes them weeks.
Its all just part of online gaming. I can promise you that CCP wants bugs fixed just as bad as we do, if not more so. Its not like they have 5 spare programmers just sitting around surfing the web everyday or slacking off at the water-cooler.

hey if its out of your normal hours of play, thats fair enough. however lets get serious about the crap we put up with, lab slots unrenting when they shouldnt. getting killed by pirates 40 au's from where you warped to, just to be podded and back where you warped from. i think im making my point, and we can make this point to CCP. i realise ive chosen a time that isnt a high peak time. but there are alot of people who do play at this time. and if this doesnt reap the action we desire then we could talk about a peak time mass logoff. but i am hoping this will suffuce to get a fire burning under whoever needs a flame throuwer under thier arse. so that would never need to be considered.
if you dont play at the time stated on sunday, show your support the way you are now. by stating if you did play at that time you would not log in .

Thanks for the offer, but no thanks.....
CCP know how some people feel, and I'm sure they are doing their best to resolve issues.
So no, I won't be joining you. Also, if i may be so bold, just because you are a subscriber to EVE, does not mean you should use their resources to attempt to create a boycott of the game.......
Sorry, that's just how i feel. I get miffed sometimes, but if you are so annoyed......leave and come back later...

ok lets get this straight, i like CCP alot more than you may think (way more than the scum at SOE i have sworn if there is ever a MMO by company i will never play its one of thiers. however that doesnt change the fact we are not getting results (or are not getting informed of them anyway) and yeah 25 employees for a game like this thats insane, i couldnt agree more. but doesnt that lead you ask one question, why are there still only 25 employees?
they have a average of 10,000 accounts logged in at peak hours, that 10,000 definate 14.95 a month thats 149500 a month, thats not counting all the accounts (last time i heard they have 50,0000 subscribers) then there is the merchandise etc etc, why dont they employ another 2 or 3 people or whtever? the game has got bigger why hasnt the staff?

If you truly wish to boycott and want to be taken seriously, you'll have to turn off those skills, cause otherwise your not really boycotting!

Edited by: Ranger Whitestar on 18/02/2005 03:23:34 yay for the trolls and fan boys who are happy with the way it sucks for so many, till they get one of the well known issues affecting them. but who cares about the way the game is in general its ok for me so thats not a problem (cos it is fine for me never really get any issues) but thats the attitude that lets poor service continue being porr service. and god forbid allows it to get worse. till it does affect you, then why would anybody care then either.
either you like the way the player numbers are increasing, and performance of the server is dropping. or you just dont care as long as your not affected. is that the right attitude? i think not. because it affect you sooner or later if it continues the way its going.

Edited by: F'nog on 18/02/2005 03:59:14 I gotta agree with IZ. Unless you turn off a skill, you're not boycotting. Otherwise, there's no difference between you and the majority of American players who are sleeping at that time.

Can we reschedule the boycott for downtime?
No seriously, boycotts are stupid in general.. almost as passe as protesting. When did people become so spineless? Once upon a time, it was perfectly acceptable to run people through with a spear when they annoyed you. Even poor people, like Socrates (or was it Plato?) could get in on the action by pitching rocks at foreigners and other disagreeable riffraff.
If you really want to effect some change, threaten to travel to Iceland and taunt ol' Grimsvotn.

Edited by: Junroy Matox on 18/02/2005 08:09:11 I appreciate your efforts to draw CCP's attention to bugs and other shortcoming's in their game. But I believe that they are given plenty of feedback on these issues and try their best to work on them. They do have limited resources and they try to use them to their maximum potential, but it will be impossible to fix bugs any quicker, even if they are boycotted.
Having said that, I believe the community would appreciate being updated slightly more often on what is currently happening. Oveur's blogs on Do we extend or patch EVE? and What is CCP Doing?...Eating Sheeps ********* were very appreciated, and I would like to see more of this type of devblog that tells us a ittle about CCP and the people that work there. It let's us know that in addition to updates on bug fixes and patch content. I think CCP does an excellent job, they just don't let people know about it often enough.
As I said before, the devblogs are excellent, which suggests some quality time and effort go into them, so perhaps my request for more frequent devblogs is just as unlikely and unreasonable as requesting the programmers to fix bugs faster...
-------------------------------------------------- ...but that's just my opinion, I'm not an expert ;) |

That's a good idea. Let's boycott between 11 and 12 GMT. That'll show 'em.
Really, do you think that the dev team are ignorant of support issues? Doubt it. I think they're are aware of bugs etc. as much, if not more so than everyone else. But there isn't a magic wand that can be wave to make 'all better'. Bug hunting and fixing is hard work.
The only boycott that'll have an impact is to cancel your subs.

Fire and flamethrowers won't get people working faster...it'll simply fry them and leave fewer staff to fix the problems. Heck, even if you stood in the CCP offices and put a gun to the head of every member of staff, it's not going to make fixing the problems any less time-consuming.
Of course, a boycott is a great way to fix all the bugs instantly...if you don't play, you can't experience any bugs But personally, I will be playing. My enjoyment from playing is more than my annoyance at bugs. If that balance ever tips the other way, I will stop playing. Just like I do with any other game.
