What RL charity? There is no "Vile Rat Foundation" outside of this one dude in EVE Online. He's not misrepresenting anybody or anything. That "thing" would need to already exist for it to be misrepresented. Again, you're reaching. |

Clearly the people who are calling for in-game monuments, memorials and charities are among the list of those who do not know when the game ends and RL starts. |

I don't know VR and I'm not a Goons fan, but as a human being a feel for the loss of his family, especially in such a senseless way, and the lack of respect being shown by a few scum bags is out of order. Imagine it was your loss.

No. They know where the game ends, which is why they're treating this as if, you know, a real person died and are asking for a demonstration of respect, as opposed to those sick fucks who treats that this is just another game event.

Yes, there is a difference between RL and the game.
That's not the point.
The point is the principle. Even if it's not a violation of the EULA, the player of Vile Rat Foundation is taking advantage of a real family's loss in order for personal gain. If they were doing this in real life, they'd be lucky to not suffer some form of assailing from either friends, family or even complete strangers.
So what? It's a game! Correct, it's a game. Played by real people. It's the principle, not the practice. ~Archon Azdan Amith,-á Order of Light's Retribution |

No. The bad taste is when you use real people slain in senseless violence to score cheap points in a game. If you can't separate the two, may I suggest medicating yourselfGǪ heavily.

It seems that you're exactly the kind of person that you (wrongly) suppose that GSF members are.
It is at this point that, if you had any friends, they would advise you to stop digging, because you're in deep enough. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

There's being a douchebag in game and being a douchebag by capitalising on real life events, one is acceptable, one is not.
Please have some respect for Vile Rat and his friends & family, there's every chance one of his friends or family may read these threads and TBH while most have the humanity to respect & honour the dead some of the comments being made strike me as being made by repugnant individuals who have no empathy. You and your strawmen.
The Jita Monument and the AT ships have NOTHING to do with the death of a player outside of EVE and the requests of his comrades to "honor" him with in-game monuments, memorials and charities.
His death is a tragedy, no doubt, but people die all the time and their deaths are no less tragic and no less deserving of some artificial in-game monument or memorial. |

There's quite a big difference between scamming someone by taking advantage of their greed, than there is in scamming someone by taking advantage of their generosity towards a charity, real or not. The former method would be applauded especially if it's a big scam, the latter not and rightly so. What makes this particular incident even more damnable is that the person is taking advantage of another person dying in real life. That goes way beyond the game, just like Mittani's actions some time ago that resulted in his temporary ban.
When that line between real life and games is broken, there quite simply can't be anything good coming out of it. |
