I don't know how you got that impression but it's the other way round. We were able to make a simple agent finder because we simplified the agents system.

Originally by: Nikuno So the only reason for destroying the agent variety was to allow the agent finder to function for the release of CG? When CCP said they were altering the spawning of plexes to create more variety in regions of space I took this as the official stance - variety is good for Eve. To then find you destroying this massively varied, fully functional aspect of the game was disappointing initially. To then also find out the incredibly weak reasoning behind it was simply breath-taking. CCP, you really need to make your minds up about what Eve is. Pushing players in a direction that many have little interest in and which removes existing and enjoyed features is a way to commercial suicide.
pretty well put...
... and maybe thats what the consumer wants.. clean simple decisions with less thinking and less accumulated and learned knowledge influencing your sucess in the game..
I think there is a larger reason for it.. dumb peole earn far less isk per hour than those that spend the time to work the systems and it was difficult for them to balance the economy when some earn so much more in the same amount of time

This still flies in the face of the stated goal of creating variety between regions of space. Where once we may have fought over who controls which bit of npc space for the best agents, now there is no need. How can this sit well with the exact opposite change to the plex system with the reasoning cited by CCP that it was to increase variety?

Very nice! The only thing missing is the ability to limit the search to a region. Right now we only have the choice between the whole universe or one solar system!

I've been taking some of the feedback here and made improvements on the agent finder. One of it being Region filter (no locator agents filtering yet, sorry). Will be deployed soon

Originally by: DeMichael Crimson Was this about the the old Tutorial_Agents who gave the mission 'The Endless Battle'? I was informed they've been removed from the game? That's 15 agents for each of the 4 main Factions. Total = 60 agents.
They were a good source for gaining positive Faction standing along with repairing negative Faction standing, even if it was just a small amount. They played a major part when first working the Faction Standing Repair Plan.
Any chance of giving those agents a new title (Political Liaison ?) and paying them more isk to come back out of retirement? If not, are there any replacement agents available that give the same mission?
Greetings from Team NoobLube. So, we removed the standings gains from the initial NPE (formerly known as the Crash Course) to avoid people raising standings too easily. The NPE is now repeatable, you see. It wasn't before, so back then, it was okay to give out one-time mission rewards like standings. In the new one, repetable missions with standings rewards would be exploitable so we had to take them out for the time being.
We're continuously working on the NPE these days, so how things are now won't be how they remain forever. One thing we'd like to do is add the standings gain back in, but we can't do that with a repeatable NPE unless we make the reward a one-time thing some other way. The best candidate is by having tutorials (which currently can only give goodies in the form of items) reward standings. In any case, we're aware of this, and will be looking to improve it.

Also, just by the way...
With the redesign of the Agent Finder, one category got left out ("Roleplaying"). We'll be looking at possibly reintroducing it again, if the UI allows.
Anyways, just wanted those who care to know that it wasn't abandoned entirely and we're still looking at improvements.

First I would like to thank you for implementing an agent finder tool into Eve Online. It is a player request that was long stamped *denied* for far too many reasons to get into here and I am delighted to be able to points nooblets to an in-game tool they can use. Kudos to you for the hard work - it is appreciated by many players, including me. (See, I'm not a hard ass all the time...)
Originally by: CCP Punkturis We were able to make a simple agent finder because we simplified the agents system.
I did have to chuckle at the above, given the plethora of players who were able to write highly efficient agent finder tools using the old agent system with little more than script, a database and a little time.
Speaking of those players... those 3rd party developers, like Chribba, that did find a way to make agent locators that to this day far surpass what CCP can bring to the table with python (for time constraint reasons I'm guessing)... did you guys ever, ever even once consider starting your blog with 'Thank you to the many third party developers who have provided this service to our players for so many years. We found great inspiration from <insert developer or website here> and <insert developer or website here> and were able to produce this fine tool only because of your inspiration'.
These 3rd party developers have been running these agent locator tools for years and don't even get a cursory mention at all?
I find that sad, really.
(Ok, so I'm still a hard ass...)

CCP Punkturis;
You are doing a f'n FANTASTIC job, with absolutely ZERO sarcasm. You seriously, sincerely, honestly do need a raise. The new agent finder, even its current form, is terrific. However, I do dislike the images, and much would rather see a grid-style view like pretty much every other aspect of the game which deals with raw data. 6/5 stars on this part of the game, AND your services in this thread!
However, being that you have the tag of EVE Dev I just CANNOT FATHOM why, and how, you manage to have at least ONE post every page of this post, while on any other forum post, your dev'n team mates just can't keep up or even respond.
*scratches head*
Maybe CCP should start paying you dev'rs on a per post basis?

I wanted to make it less spreadsheets-in-space-right-clicky and more "here's what you need to see, just click it"
Also, thank you, I try my best to help

He also tries his best to hide the fact that CCP didn't provide this service for many, many years despite player requests for it... since... circa 2005 iirc?
He also tries his best to ignore the fact that the players *did* provide this service to the community since CCP didn't/wouldn't/couldn't and tries his best to ignore the fact that those people should have been properly thanked when he stomped all over them with his wanna-be replication of their hard work.
You did, after all, steal this idea Punk. What kind of developer are you that you couldn't be arsed to give a kudos to the guys who did your job for you for so many years?
Oh right, this is CCP... what was I thinking. You're a low wage probably not very good developer who grinds through his job with no relevance to anything but his paycheck. I forgot. Sorry. You're excused.
NOT.

Thing is I don't need to see their faces. That's meaningless to me. Sorting by distance is great though.
Two things I'd like to suggest in regards to usability (Since this is what you're aiming for I guess);
1- Increase the clickable area around the numbers representing the levels. Its a bit too small. I know the arrow can be dragged, but my mind works on "I want level 4. I'll click 4). 2- Have the option to show "All Levels" as going down from 4 to 1 to see a valid agent is awkward. 2.a- Allow the sorting by purely distance, and another option to sort by level then distance.

In next update you'll see a better version of the slider
We left out "All levels" because of performance issues. If you have all filters set to "Any" and "All levels", there are just way too many agents to fetch.

One of the few legitimately good features that came with the patch, very useful as is, even in its "raw" form. I'm glad you guys are actively working on improving this feature. The "deployed soon" was regarding the region filter (and other stuff in today's patch).

'Cept it doesn't exactly work all that well. - Have to keep re-entering data every query - Depending on the search query, MySQL isn't providing a proper result (Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/hiddena/public_html/eve/agent.php on line 496) - Hard to read - Confusion on the "Agents Within" combo... Within what? No place to actually say "3 hops from HERE"
I have my own agent finder that I wrote, and it works rather well. Few things I do need to work out since the update and I have to re-work the SQL query, but it gets what I need without the fancy stuff.
