To be fair, it was a pretty awesome picnic. Due to some failure in my upbringing, I had no idea that fish could be so moist and delicious.
Her time was up, though, so I just laughed at her, "It's 21:30. I need to go fly a fake space ship, baby. I ain't got no more time for your crap."
I walked away as she shriveled up into a quivering ball of tears, and I smiled to myself. I totally pwned her. Not only did I pwn her, I would suffer no retribution from CONCORD, and she would find no solace from allies. It was one of life's few perfect moments.
The last thing I said to her as I got in my car, leaving her alone in that moonlit field with no way to get home was my deepest, most heartfelt, "Yarr!"
I'm pretty sure she was moved.
Good poast.

UTC and GMT are NOT the same. For applications where sub second time synchronization is not required they can be considered equivalent but because UTC contains leap seconds (sometimes the last minute of a day contains 61 seconds and not 60 to bring it back into line with the mean solar day)GMT and UTC are not exactly the same.
As I mentioned above when correcting the fool that thought GMT employs a DST.

Wow are you guys over-reacting... like Omg, CCP has wasted 12 hours of your time and now you have to be in the real world, that must be so traumatizing for you. This happens like once or twice a year, not like it happens daily, and you try putting out something like this, It's hella difficult, and even if you get it perfect during a test, there no way to tell what will happen when the server is under stress of 50,000 people. And be honest, the majority of you would just be spinning your ship... or now avatar around in circles anyway.

I bet the server will be back up year 2330 thats what they mean hehe jk but I must say they are expert on extending down time the should instead extend it 1 week and run some more test¦s then try it so the could probably solve the problem they have now.

forget it till at least 9am UTC tommorow - they work EU time on the server stuff (servers are in london remember) there's no chance of them working through the night on this update, they'll just bed it down and start on it again tommorow.

im eastern time zone. we are 4 hours apart from eve time so thats about 7:30 for us.
Except UTC does not take into account daylight savings etc, so GMT is +1 hour on UTC. Until the clocks go back later in the year.
Actually, GMT == UTC. You're thinking of BST (British Summertime), which is GMT+1

Aside from the irrelevant brabbel about the frenchies I mentioned the offset, which is also irrelevant in this thread, as the op just wanted to know the difference (in hours) and not synchronize clocks...
Also irrelevant: our discussion.

First message I saw about PLANNED downtime said something like 0500-1900 (or at least that's how I read it.) So, that's 14 hours. Now you factor in the patch day multiplier of approximately 1.8 and you get 25.2 hours. Also they started it late, 0700 apparently, so that automatically pushed the 1900 I originally saw, to 2100, now add in those extra 11 hours for the patch day multiplier, and we're looking at 0800 on the 22nd. So, grab a beer (or 15) and just wait for it.

There is no real difference between the two, they are one in the same UTC = Universal Time and GMT is Greenwich Mean Time.
There is a cool widget you can download for your desktop if you have Windows 7. This will help you always know what time it is in Iceland compared to where to are at so you know what the bloody hell time it is when they say UTC. Download the World Clock Gadget. Set one for local time and the other for GMT and both to 24hr clocks. You are set.

I completely agree, our discussion is irrelevant - but then so is this whole thread - the servers will come back when the servers come back.
You talked about the differences between GMT and BST and that GMT did not change in the summer.Which is correct, I never mentioned the daylight savings offset (+/- 1 Hour) but referred to the subsecond differences between GMT and UTC and the fact that UTC contains leap seconds - which neither GMT or BST do.
And as for the Frenchy babble - at the time it was quite a big deal (at least to the French) - or we would all be calling it CUT now.

The fact that predicted finishing time has shifted from 21.30 to 23.30 should be of little consequence to most eve players - except school children in Europe who wanted to have the patch installed before bed.
The fact that ccp have simply ninja edited the original front page post from 21.30 -> 23.30 and have left the link in that front page post to a post stating that they expect servers to be on line at 21.30 - show how arrogant and incompetent the company is.
