Lord knows, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed. Maybe they're finally ready to listen to their customers, because they can see the writing on the wall if they don't. If I was advising them, here's where I'd start:
1. Make incarna completely optional.
2. Remove microtransactions completely from non-incarna gameplay.
3. Give people the option to have their old avatars back.
4. Spend adequate resources on Internet Spaceships.
5. Fire soundwave and the marketing guy.
6. Make it clear to all CCP employees that if they post on forums on one of their alts in defense of CCP, they will be fired.
7. Apologize to the last CSM, who warned you well ahead of time exactly what would happen if you do what you did and did everything in their power to prevent it.
8. Hire Mynxee as your Chief Ethics Officer and give her access to all internal communications and the power to make them public if she considers their contents to contradict your public positions or to be against the interests of the playerbase.
CCP asks its players to invest a significant amount of time/resources to its game. On top of that we pay for everything at CCP. They owe us gratitude, honesty, and improved gameplay over time.
They're 0 for 3 so far.

Incarna, so far, has been less buggy for me personally than the past 3 expansions have been. So far i'd say, way to go CCP, you're getting the hang of cleaner patches.

There is a HUGE gamebreaking bug going on with mods/skill bonus to weapons not being applied. It may not be as obvious as some of the notorious 'blackhole' expansions, but it's almost as unplayable.
And then there is the fact that this was the most content-starved update EVE has ever seen, so aside from the CQ which influences only a small part of the gameplay (and also has BIG problems), there simply wasn't that much that could have been broken to begin with.

make it optional - without the sulky punishment option of the static wall.
Old station plus enter CQ would make everyone happy and would prob encourage people to actually use Incarna, at least later on when there is something to do in stations.

I use drones a fair bit but it's still not as bad as I have seen in the past. Besides. Drones broken? I just spend a bit of time flying a few ships that don't rely on them so much.
Drones and Missiles are broken, sure, but on a stability level Incarna is gold compared to the past haha :P

Yeah getting tired of the extremely obvious alts here posting "OMG THIS IS GREAT SUCCESS INCARNA IS GREAT BEGONE WHINERS". Even real haters have that eve speech you can detect in them.
Also make Incarna OPTIONAL, bring the old environment and most people will be calmed. If they want to turn this into GARBAGE PAIL KIDS IN SPACE , good for them, but leave those that want just to fly around, spin ships in an efficient environment alone. They can add more marvelous Monocles or charge 3000$ for a pair of used sweaty minmatar boxers with realistic stains on it for all that I care, just leave original gameplay efficiency alone, leave docking as it was for those that dont want to see our avatar jerkily moving around like automatons.
Just bring spinning ships back, make it so if we want to we cna undock into Psycho Torture Room PLZ CCP!!! ---Archipelago Theory---

This is by far the most powerful way of making your opinion known, and where it will hurt CCP the most. We all have a say in this by choosing simply not to pay. For the moment this is the same step I am taking, my accounts are no longer in auto-renew and I am taking a "wait and see" approach, should I decide to resub. If nothing changes for the better, then I'll take my bow and exit left.

0 for 11 and counting (though I'm having second thoughts about #8. I'd prefer someone who is able to see through the sham that was billed as the CSM emergency summit.)
But instead of 8 I've thought of a few more:
9. Announce that you will not be nerfing wormholes again in the foreseeable future and that even contemplating doing so was one of your stupider decisions in a year of colossally stupid decisions.
10. Announce that while you enjoy Mittens' asshattery and tomfoolery that you can't in good conscience take his recommendations seriously when he so clearly does not have the best interests of the game or the players (who aren't in his alliance) at heart (and has said as much.) And since the rest of this CSM are little more than sycophants, that applies to them as well. (Getting to work on a direct input from the players (voting/survey) system in the background would be a good idea.)
11. Announce that you've taken a few hours out of the workday to discuss this and this with your employees and to make it clear that you understand and embrace the contents therein.

CCP doesn't have to recover from this. All they need do is rely on the time-proven short attention span. For every arrogant old-timer (that wants to tell them their business) who quits, a new player logs. They know that, though half the people on this thread don't...either that or they're pretending it's not so in some forlorn hope CCP is dumb enough to fall for bovine scatology.
Not only is MT here to stay in THIS game, it's going to be in every game to some degree to follow ad nauseum, et cetera. The only people who have anything to recover from are the ones who think by buying the milk they own the dairy. Since Luddite Joe this has been the case, and since Luddite Joe, the dairy owner did what he wanted anyway.
Past a certain point this uproar has all the markings of a spoiled child in a department store digging his tennis shoe heels into the tile while mommy drags him away from the toy section screaming as she attempts to endure the disapproving frowns of the general public. Smack the child? The same folks yell, "Brutality!"
a.) Wait them out.
b.) Do what you planned all along.
c.) Look back on this and chuckle to yourself.
Please wait as this sig- nature finishes loading

No. They had a slight bump for three or four days, but then it was all downhill.
Before the patch, it consistently peaked above 45k and went up towards 55k on busy days. After the patch, it is struggling to get up to 45k, and above 50k on peak days. This in contrast to how it usually goes, when patches bring in extra players by the thousands. Post-patch Saturday was at least 2-3k players short of where it should have been; post-patch Sunday was at least 5k players short.
Incarna has ù without a shadow of a doubt ù been an unmitigated disaster.

Originally by: AkJon Ferguson Lord knows, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Ignorant? I stand by the facts/opinions I expressed in the post you quoted, which line(s) do you think betrayed some level of ignorance?

Well, ok, but... don't you have anything better to do than this? I mean, face it, it's over. They made the CQ optional, and that's not bad, but the stuff that really bothers people is here to stay, that's the direction MMO's are headed these days.

12. Require that all CCP employees working on EVE publicly disclose their alliance affiliations, if any (both past and current.) No need to provide specific alt identities, but just basics like:
CCP Soundwave Lead Designer for Internet Spaceships: Goonswarm/fleet/waffe 2005 (or whatever the actual date is) - Present
It wasn't cool when T20 cheated to help BoB and it's not cool when Touborg cheats to help goons.

Maybe this month ill just let the subscription on hold and wait for star wars or play age of conan "for free".

Lost count after 4....
Anywhoo... the fire side today gave me the information I needed. I've set one character for biomass tonight. The others are soon to follow.
Not going to wait for the winter fail expansion. Besides, I'm tired of waiting for CCP to remove their upper appendage from their lower oriface.
I've tried many MMOs recently but nothing that would come close to what attracted me to EVE. However with the continued failures and blantant disrespect by CCP towards their players has inspired me to make what I consider the ultimate step to walking away and not returning. BIOMASS
Seriously... deleting my toons will be hard. Not sure why other than they seem a part of me now. But like everything else, all things must end. What ended today is my nearly 5 year love affair with EVE.
Hope all you noob barbie phags have fun with your dresses and makeup. Hopefully they'll fix the bugs and allow all of you to have tea and talk about the great new clothes in the NEX soon enough.
Gotta allow all of their resources to finish up on DUST and that other dumb game before they give you too many options so be patient please.
PVP will become second seat to pink ponies and barbie outfits in space.
LOL.... it was a good run. I'll admit with sadness it has indeed been a good run.
AND,
No.. you can not haz my stuff. When I delete my characters, ships and all will also leave the game.
Farewell to all who understand.
For you who don't understand along with the CCP alts who's been posting in the forums all I can say is... job well done. Neither of you will see it coming.
Think I'll go back to making birdhouses and handing them out to local schools again. Gotta find something to fill some extra time.
Oh yeah... I'm a guy that has a lot of free time on his hands. Fact is... injuries left me in a bed then wheelchair for several months about 5 years ago, tis how I found EVE in the first place. Looking for something to do.
I suppose that is why I have so much passion for EVE. EVE has been plugging right along with me through a couple of troubling times in RL. Again... it's been a good run.
*CCP - Enjoyed the game and ride while it lasted. I'll get off here thank you.
*CCP - Didn't appreciate how you approached customer care or dealing with a customer with problems.
To all the podmen I sent home via express route. Thanks for the fun.
To all my corp buddies and alliance mates, farewell!

Perhaps for the first year or two, then they would make ridiculous changes that ruin everything people liked about the game simply because the devs (who don't actually play the game) blindly believe they know better than the players.

And as for firing the marketing guy. Hell ya, I logged on to steam the other day, for the first time in a while. What I saw of Eve was for sure barbie dolls in space. Very saddening. If I were a first time eve player and based my opinion on wether or not to by the game, would be based on a existant or non-exsistant back ground in playing Second life, or Sims. Not flying a internet space ship.

The first thing they should do is perma-ban dullards like the OP. 1. Already is optional, just lost the hangar. No one is forcing you to buy crap. 2. Yes, I too want to dust off my credit card to play Eve, don't have near enough expenses in RL as it is! (Plex = MT in case you didn't know). 3. Huh? What on earth for? They were bland to put it mildly and the options removed are being added (too slowly but added nonetheless). 4. Define adequate. My guess is that no matter how much they allocated to spaceships some would always want more (myself included) .. but I know enough of how crap works to say periods of horizontal expansion are good once in a while. 5. Ban AkJon Ferguson. Wow, this **** is easy! 6. I am an alt, my main is also an alt and we are both Russian bots operated in China by a Goon/BoB chapter (PS: your tinfoil needs refreshing). 7. Goes back further than that really. Then again if "we" got to decide Eve would have 50k subs and look like a 8-bit game in a HD world (nostalgia is fine but not as a rule-of-law). 8. "Lol" what? For that to be even remotely unbiased Mynx would have to quit the game entirely and have the same kind of access to all player communications .. power corrupts, absolute po......
CCP are asking for no such thing. They do however offer to take your money and provide a world that entertains you .. much like a movie theatre or a concert does. If you are that discontent then quit, simple. Put your wallet where your mouth is and stop moaning .. Eve withdrawal may be harsh but it is survivable .

1. It's only optional temporarily. Please keep up.
2. Fair point, I should have said Remove microtransactions (other than PLEX) completely from non-Incarna gameplay.
3. Because lots of people prefer their old avatars, have had them for many years and were 'invested' in them and because giving them that option has no cost. It would also be a way of telling at a glance if a player is more interested in Internet Spaceships or Space Barbies.
4. When you have no leg to stand on in a debate, try to make the argument about the definition of terms. Only a troll or a dev alt would argue that a game as profitable and broken (after 8 years) as EVE (Internet Spaceships) is currently receiving sufficient development resources.
5. If I bot or hack their server or Monkeysphere my client, they should indeed ban me. They should hold my behavior to a reasonable standard. And they should hold their own behavior to a reasonable standard. They do little of the former and none of the latter.
6. Are you naive enough to believe that there aren't any dev alts posting/trolling forums to try to manipulate public opinion and mislead players?
7. CSM V best CSM. They cared about the game (not just their own interests within the game,) worked hard, and called bull**** on Hilmar, which is their job.
8. Mynxee did quit. I withdrew this one anyway.

Edited by: Variel Casaubon on 29/07/2011 05:16:05 Considering that this game came out a very long time ago, it has to upgrade its graphics every now and again in order to stay interesting in the world of games that are constantly moving forward. They have to intrigue customers some how.
If your computer crashes because of the CQ then perhaps you should either upgrade or move to an older game. If your computer can play recent games that came out this year, then it should have no problem with the CQ. They are giving you ample amount of time to gather $500-$800 for a new PC by giving you the option to turn off the CQ in the mean time (should you be unable to run it).
As for old content? Things change. You wouldn't use your old Nokia with the classical music ring tone today would you? They are simply making this mandatory in order to remove the need to support old content. Microsoft does it all the time. New Windows? New drivers.
As for NON-VANITY micro transactions. Why can't people understand that they have been in the game for several years! Why exactly are you just now getting all up in arms about it?
You do know of such a thing called PLEX right? I pay $15 and in return I get ~400 mill ISK. I can then either use that ISK to buy a ship or a character with better skills from someone else. Granted you may need some more real life currency to buy a worthwhile character from someone, but from what we've seen from the monocles, buying skills wont be cheap. $50 for a million skill points maybe? That's fair I think. If it turns out to be cheaper, then I might even consider buying it instead of waiting for months to get my stupid carrier training done.
In fact I prefer it this way. I can keep my character instead of playing someone else's. Much more entertaining. As for the vanity items? Who cares if they're in the game? Someone will buy them, and CCP will make money with which they'll draw you some more fancy ships. Those without a fashion sense can stick to their sweatpants and wife beaters.

As for graphics/my computer. Don't market/design the game in a way that requires multiple accounts and then make incarna mandatory.
As for old content. It's not old content I'm asking to preserve. It's original vision. Harsh but fair sandbox. You can update content and preserve it. CCP hasn't.
As for non-vanity microtransactions. You know the difference between PLEX (which doesn't create things out of thin air) and Aurum (which do,) right? Even Malcanis knows the difference and he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. If you really don't, read his thread. It's not too bad.
As for real life currency. You live in Iceland, right? I wouldn't expect you to know what real life currency is. Enjoy your future in aluminum smelting/fishing.

No part of the game REQUIRES multiple accounts. If you want to pay to win (which is exactly what having multiple accounts is, no more, no less), then you might want to pay for an updated PC, which will be much more useful in general than multiple accounts on an online game.

Realistic, yes. Eve has on paper one of the oldest and best educated player-bases in the industry .. Because you know how resources are allocated inside CCP right?
But just to be crystal clear I'll humor the young aspiring CSM delegate:
On dev alts:
If it sounds like a duck... I can only make educated guesses on which of my trolls are dev alts. If CCP were an ethical company they'd forbid their employees to post anonymously on forums, but they aren't and they don't so I can only do my best. No doubt my 'devdar' is not 100% accurate but I'd like to think it's reasonably accurate.
On multiple accounts:
CCP marketed and designed the game to strongly encourage multiple accounts and --- HOLY ****ING COW --- lots of us now have multiple accounts. 'Required' is irrelevant. 'Strongly encouraged by the developer both in marketing and game design' is sufficient. If you disagree with that, the troll meet-up is over there>>>>>>. Go pester the spankster.
On harsh but fair sandbox:
I honestly have no clue what you're on about here. I think you're out of your depth. EVE is supposed to be a harsh but fair sandbox game. I don't give a flying **** what you did or do or might do in character creator. I'd be happy to have my old avatar back. Can you replicate that in the character creator?
On PLEX P2W vs Aurum P2W:
Read the thread, buttmunch. If you still don't understand the difference, have someone 'splain it to you. It's right there in black and white. Rebut it if you disagree with it.
On CCP resources:
Yes, actually, I do know. Because they've told us. Those of us who don't fly badgers through rancer just might have a lot of information that you're not aware of.
tl;dr Charitably feeding noob troll. Yeah, I know, obvious troll is obvious. Sorry, my bad.

What you like to think is inconsequential. But it's sure very convienient of you to think so, considering that it helps you tip-dancing around arguments that you cannot counter.
If you think that everyone that likes this game (or even something near to a majority) is a dev, you're even more delusional than you look.
Quote: CCP marketed and designed the game to strongly encourage multiple accounts and --- HOLY ****ING COW --- lots of us now have multiple accounts. 'Required' is irrelevant. 'Strongly encouraged by the developer both in marketing and game design' is sufficient.
I don't remember any communication from CCP threatening of banning you if you didn't have multiple accounts. Having them is your choice. You're very free to get a decent computer to support that choice, but it's indeed laughable that you demand to hold everyone back because otherwise you won't be able to pay to win :D
Quote: I honestly have no clue what you're on about here. I think you're out of your depth. EVE is supposed to be a harsh but fair sandbox game.
Aside from the fact that EVE has never been fair, from day one, and has never been supposed to be, there's nothing less fair in the direction EVE is going towards nowadays than it has before.
Quote: Read the thread, buttmunch. If you still don't understand the difference, have someone 'splain it to you. It's right there in black and white. Rebut it if you disagree with it.
I already rebutted it right here. There's really nothing more than need to be said. PLEX are indeed equivalent to paying to win, just as multiple accounts are. You pay real money to receive an advantage in game. It's that simple.
Quote: Yes, actually, I do know. Because they've told us. Those of us who don't fly badgers through rancer just might have a lot of information that you're not aware of.
Maybe you should fly badgers through rancer if that'd help you learn that every developer of any sizable proportions has several teams that work on separate areas of content. In fact with incarna you got your little internet spaceships fit with new shiny turrets. Those don't model and animate by themselves, you know.
You seem to have very conveniently forgot something. Lemme remind you:

Now, if you mean that devs cheat and CCP is unethical, I agree, EVE hasn't been fair. But it's supposed to be. Harsh, but fair, sandbox. I'd love for a CCP dev to weigh in on this. Several teams working on FiS? Do tell what the names of those several teams are. You've got one team (BFF) that's supposed to be fixing bugs that's now working on a nullsec 'revamp' (bribe) for the botting/RMTing tools on CSM (and nerfing WH and functionality (fitting loadouts) when they're not doing that.) JC Ferguson, you should realize one thing.
EvE is NOT supposed to be "Internet Spaceships" only. And CCP stated it many times.
EvE is supposed to be "full sci-fi simulator" and as such "internet Space Barbies" are as much part of the EvE as "Internet Spaceships"
When you understand that, you will realize that your points 1-4 (from OP) are invalid.
In my opinion the only valid point is point #7.

cough* how can no one realise that the NEX doesnt effect "eve" at all, its just extra optional content for those that want to take RP the next step further and walk around in station with their digital e-peen transormed into clothes instead of that ship everyone wants
personally i think this is a great step forward for ccp, they are one of the only games companys out there that constantly push forward defiantly refusing to be cowed into submitting slow over thought poorly imagined ideas.
we ALL loved the idea of incarna before hand, the new avatars look awesome (not sure about the weird protruding second elbow i seem to have aquired but hell who cares) the station inviroments are a little stale station by station as they are near identical but im sure they will like habbo hotel allow us to change their shape and colour scheme furniture etc thru the nex which is GENIUS!
i love that if i want to just sit back and discuss things with corp mates i can do it in a sound responsive environment i set up in a station iv made into a home that i customised and paid for thru the in-game economy.
how can that not excite you people O.o
old avatars weren't that good and looked dated. incarna is completely optional already, go under your graphics settings and stop loading station environment like i do on my work comp. micro transactions will only add to the game, it does and will do nothing game changing, just give you the option to customise things more which we ALL complained about not too long ago.
posting things as their alts is completely fair, they cant as an official rep show their own opinions as much as they can if they use their alts. a poor comparison but police here in london cant appear to be biast regardless of their personal opinions because it jeapodises the police's credibility. same for ccp, they are staff of a company and may support the decission for unrelated reasons to what they are allowed to say as ccp representatives.
oh and we dont pay for everything, we pay for a service they provide us - they provide us with free updates/expansions, an ACTIVE development team that talks to us and most of us are completely in love with the service they provide comparted to say other games companies that charge per expansion, dont realise anything until its 100% compatible
i recall buying the burning crusade for wow and discovering after wasting ú30.00 that other then a level increase and outlands nearly everything else was either being patched in or just a reskin / slight remodel of pre-existing stuff, oh a few things were prettier and flying was cool but its nothing that didnt exsist before.
we all paid a subscription and ú30.00 for that expansion, how pi**ed was i.
compare that with what we have here, a game that WE actively change thru opinions the CSM put forward for us.
hell find me ONE game where i can go, you know what this year im gona by that helpfull gm a beer and visit XCOUNTRYX the game is from and not be thrown out on my ear...

Originally by: Shpenat JC Ferguson, you should realize one thing.
I don't see how Ferguson's points contradict the idea of EVE eventually becoming a full-blown s-f simulator. I applaud that vision, I want to see it succeed, I think the CQ (as a technical achievement) is a small step in the right direction.
The problem is more in the way that Incarna has been introduced and is being implemented, not the concept itself. Hell, most vets were totally excited about WiS when the idea was first mooted back in 2006 (I think it was?). Who wouldn't want to play in the world's greatest all-in s-f simulator?
But priorities, priorities. FiS is, at present, still the core game, and needs to work properly, be balanced, some features introduced in the past need to be more polished; also the core concept of the game isn't just instant pew-pew, it's a sandbox, a virtual world, and that needs to be nurtured, not endangered by harebrained MT schemes; also the lore needs to be respected, because it's some of the best lore in any game ever.
Also, despite the amazing technical achievement that is the Carbon character creator, the sense of style and design in clothing and accessories has fallen, with Incarna, from the imaginative standard initially implemented in EVE. (Gay Bikers In Space, in average-looking GAP clothes, with an average looking movie s-f sense of art design, is not as good as what we originally had, which was much more imaginative, mysterious, and fitting to the lore of human beings who have been separated from the rest of humanity for millennia.)
Also promises, promises. It was promised that CQ would be an OPTION from Hangar view, not the default view (the way it is now grates very badly against the lore). (And of course there are numerous other broken promises not directly connected with Incarna, but fuelling the rage about Incarna - probably unfairly, but there you go.) *****
