1. A disembark button. Return ship spinning and of you want to walk around you can push the button.
2. Keep microtransactions for vanity items only. This has been promised to us but it seems unlikely given the leaked document.
3. Add some reasonably priced vanity items. I don't really care about any of it, but if people want to spend billions on specialty items that's fine with me, like the dude who lives in the trailer park with the brand new corvette. Add some economy items for the working class spaceship pilot.
4. Address heat issues with hardware. I see you're looking into that now and good on you.
5. This is most important. Be open and honest with the players. The fact that you haven't responded in any way disturbs me. Even a "chill doods a dev blog is on the way!" would be welcome. ---

This is really all we want. #5 is pretty huge, it also disturbs me we've heard nothing from them and in the meanwhile they're getting an increasing amount of bad PR through various gaming media outlets.

I was writing my own thread that said something along these lines but gave up when i saw this as it summarizes everything pretty well :)
I do like Incarna it has a lot of potential but that disembark button is really key. Under the current mechanics stuff like changing ship opening up the different bays and stuff is just a massive pain in the arse! I also dual box a lot so having station environment loaded on both clients is a no-go + staring at that door is dam right depressing.
I am impressed at the potential of Incarna just deeply disappointed in the way its been rolled out and the nerf to my ship screen,

Some are mad about the ship spinning: FIX: when you dock, you ship spin by default, then above undock you have leave ship option. Allow ship swapping without leaving your pod.
Some are mad about AUR for Battleships, ammo and mods: FIX: make it like the LP store, they have to purchase from players, then trade in to get new item.
Some are mad about high vanity item cost: FIX: Set up contract auctions for say 100 of each item, then base the vanity store items off this. There could be buy it now prices and auction prices. Allow them to dynamically fluctuate.
Some are mad that CCP doesn't consider people having multiple accounts spending extra money on their hobby FIX: ???
They did begin a query into heat here:

After some local brainstorming, I had an epiffany on how we could solve this decently. Everyone who is opposed to the changes, MT and whatnot, joins fleet A, led by John Turbefield. The people who think the ones in fleet A are a bunch of whiners and gonads joins fleet B, led by that "I think microtransactions are brilliant" guy. Make it happen. The FC who leads his fleet to a glorious victory is put in charge; effective immediately.

In regards to #3, I'd say not even that much is needed. By all means, keep the item prices high, but make it possible to distinguish $$ and ISK price. As has been pointed out elsewhere, while you can get one for the other, there's a distinct difference between $70 and 1.5bn ISK. The former is a truly ridiculous price for an in-game item; the latter is not.
This could easily be fixed by, as Apollo Gabriel, hints at, actually finishing the NeX and make it be a mix of ISK and AUR to buy the stuff, where you need more of the former and less of the latter. Sure, let a monocle cost a total of 1.5bn ISK, but only make 500M of that be in the form of AUR. This lets people actually put the stuff onto the market and create a flow of goods and a proper supply/demand from secondary trading.
Again, the whole point of a good µT scheme is to remove the price as a factor in the decision-making process. The rest of it then becomes a matter of finding a balanced markup for your ISK investment, just like with the regular LP store. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

I hate to single someone out like this and I'm sorry to the person/people that I'm doing this to, but they have yet to learn interior environment artist techniques. The good news is that it doesn't seem like the problem is in the rendering engine.

I do like the idea of a disembark button.
ship-spinning is a comfort, and oddly enough, the static background is, for the lack of a better word, causing me physical anxiety. Wierd, I know, but it makes me very tense right now staring at the static picture. However, it is less tense that lagging to hell on hostile gates if I opened DQ that session.
I like "disembark". Spin until you go to CQ. The CQ interface could also benefit form a "repair ship" option on the holo-menu, and a flashing mail icon on one of the screens would be nice.
Oh, and the bed should retract into the wall ;) "To bring order to chaos, one must bring chaos to its knees."

I wholly support this list, I think its possibly the most reasonable thing I have read all day.
I don't think #5 is unexpected by any business anywhere. Anything more than silence is above and beyond the status quo. Though I do wish this was a case where above and beyond was the policy.

Edited by: Miss Panky on 23/06/2011 19:17:28 Another thing related to this that I've been thinking about:
If immersion is the primary concern, I feel that be being able to dock and not leave your ship is much more immersive. Station view is way more immersive than a door as well.

You should call soundwave and tell him to read my super sweet thread. You probably have his cell phone number amirite?
Soundwave has no need for cellphones. He responds to a Lacoste logo crocsignal in the sky.
But as much as I love him he's completely wrong about microtransactions and hopefully reasonable threads like this will bring CCP around.
let him know the new ceo calls the shots now?

Completely agree with this thread. CCP we're ok with your microtransactions and walking in stations as long as we're not forced to participate in them to continue playing the game we love.
What many people on both sides seem to have forgotten is that CCP and EVE players can actually co-exist. :)

This.
And for the record I think incarna is a pretty sweet idea. And its a work in progress so as it ages it has the potential to become better and better. However, CCP and the players need to compromise on these basic things. Not just for us but for CCP and the future of EVE ---

5. This is most important. Be open and honest with the players. The fact that you haven't responded in any way disturbs me. Even a "chill doods a dev blog is on the way!" would be welcome.
Yup, this. Number 1 being the key here and had already been recommended prior to Incarna release. Seems a no brainer really.

Number 1 also would do wonders for RAM usage. I see roughly 250-300Mb more RAM used in CQ than when I'm staring at the door.
At least they could make it a Minmatari door. Duct tape ftw.
(Despite going through some stages of grief (denial, anger, despair, etc) I would rather not settle on acceptance.) Make things better, and these five suggestions are excellent ways to make it better.
(Also, remember to make all contracts to me before biomassing. And you won't be, if you've read this far and CCP sees the goodness of these politely worded suggestions by Rui.)

The only dev post I've seen in my lurking these last couple hours was some panacean response about scanning. Basically, the players are all talking theory and equations, trying to figure things out, and the dev says:
Originally by: CCP Veritas Hey there gents.
The scanning formulas changed fundamentally. My apologies that the patch notes didn't convey that very well.
Sure is specific in here.

Basic ideas here that sum up the frustrations of everyone.
On the CQ though, I'm not even sure why I get a CQ at EVERY station in the game. Is that like a hotel room or something? I actually like the CQ but until it becomes customizable, I'm not sure why I even need it. But if you made a station "Home" and could customize it how you please, then I would be interested in using it. Hopefully this will be in future updates. *** Looking for testers for my industry program! Details Here! |

The whole CQ seemed to have no thought behind it, immersion wise. Like how we have no option to stay in our ship when entering station, how our quarters are in every station we go to, how they all look the same (I know more will come later, but still a valid complaint).

I, for one, think Incarna is kind of cool. If we still get hanger view. And if microtransactions don't rule the show. And if it expands (which it should). ---

I'm all for the CQ, and think it'll only help EVE if done right. It isn't optomized, though, and them getting rid of the old station view and replaced it with a door makes no sense.

I agree here. I don't necessarily despise the CQ, and my three year-old computer can run it without catching on fire and burning everything I love. The TV is a great concept that got overlooked with the billboards, as nobody cares enough to hang out around a stargate just to see bounty listings (which are almost always wrong). I'd like to see some more variety with the TV, perhaps different channels (for example, agent channel, combat channel, shopping channel, new players channel, etc) so it doesn't skip past whatever you were watching in the first place right as you finish reading it. Along with this should come some control over the speed of image-changing, etc. I am also a major advocate of the OPTIONAL CQ function, and I'm not talking about a choice between CQ and a fuzzy door. You have the code for station spinning, and I'm sure it's still lurking in the client somewhere, so why not make it an option, eh? EH? And on the extremely unlikely chance that a dev team member actually reads this, why not give us some actual feedback, and not just mildly entertaining dev blogs that simply re-hash the patch notes with a splash of humor?

Pretty decent summary. There should be something mentioned about the future of this game as well tho (entwined with #5 and the openness).
I.e.: what's with the development of WoD, Dust and Incarna and nothing added related to spaceships, at all? CCP given up on EVE? Our sub money goes to other games? That's somewhat fine, Blizzard, EA etc all spend their incomes to new projects. But everything? -

I'm left wondering WTF is going on there. Did they honestly think Incarna was awesome and everyone would love it? Are they dumbfounded by the negative response? Do they simply have no clue what to do, other than to push on mindlessly with their fail plan? I mean - what is going on?
They did respond to one thing so far: the rage. It's a step in the right direction.

3. Add some reasonably priced vanity items. I don't really care about any of it, but if people want to spend billions on specialty items that's fine with me, like the dude who lives in the trailer park with the brand new corvette. Add some economy items for the working class spaceship pilot.

1. Yes, at the very least make the temporary option of turning it off not so temporary.
2. Holy mother of whatever viking gods you worship yes. If we have to start paying real money in any way (even if we can buy plex with isk to convert to AUR, somebody paid real money for the plex) to buy ships modules or implants that effect actual gameplay, it will ruin the game. I don't want to say if this happens I'll quit, because I probably won't, right away anyways, but if the game gets crappy afterwards then obviously you'll lose subscriptions.
3. Don't really care about reasonably priced vanity items tbh, make them all expensive if you want meh.
4. I was surprised at the amount of resources CQ used, I was still able to do what I normally do without horrible lag, but it did cut my FPS down to about 20-30 instead of steady at what I assume is the game limited 60.
5. The more the communication the better, in general I think CCP does communicate with us decently well, but yeah, even a hold the **** on we're working on it would be nice :)

All I want is a promise that vanity items (and only vanity items) will be sold to raise money to fix GAMEPLAY.. I fear theyre going to pump their MT money into MT, because MT is profitable.

CQ NOT optional = mass quit aurum for items in space ( other then new ship skins that offer a no advantage) = mass quit every item shop item being absurdly high = mass quit
any in game advantage for buying aurum = mass quit.

I am not even going to get into teh AUR stuff... INCARNA
- We need the option to spin our ships!
- There should be an animation instead of the session change when jumping into a new ship(ship moving out of the hanger/into)!
- Market on our main screen would be nice, along with many other things.
- why not add the option to lay down or drink quafe? or do other silly things to make CQ more than just a room
All of this could have made incarna one of the best patches ever. Considering all of the time it took to roll this patch out, it deeply concerns me that you havent come up with much much more. Please re-size your signature as per forum rules. Maximum height: 120 pixels; maximum width: 400 pixels; maximum file size: 24,000 bytes. Thank you. Shadow. |

Srsly, tho, there should be a CCP talking in here. It's good stuff.

Originally by: Illadelph Justice Well thought out, rational ideas.
Agreed on all counts.
1. This would be really nice for the times where you dock just to do something quickly- get repairs, resupply, etc. I love the look and concept of CQ. I don't love having to wait 30s to get there. Basically, CQ-lite (be it "spinning" or whatever). Sometimes I don't have time to sit on the sofa and watch the news.
2. I can't fault CCP for trying to find new revenue streams. But they need to be very careful to not disrupt the player-based economy at the same time. 100 AUR = Pink Scorpion -> bad. 100 AUR + Scorpion = Pink Scorpion -> good. I don't like the AUR-for-standings idea. It seems much more natural to allow ISK-based bribes, though, as it works well as from a storyline perspective (some agents will be more corrupt and willing to accept a bribe than others) and this could work well as an ISK-sink. In any case, people are getting far too worked up about the internal memo- its just ideas about a possible direction that is under consideration, and not fully baked. Companies do this sort of thing all the time. We should wait and see what their offically stated policy will be before storming the castle.
3. I really can't figure out why they didn't do this. They should have started out with some cheap stuff (in addition to what they have) just to get people used to the mechanics of the cash-AUR-ISK cycle.
4. This is forcing my to update my gaming machine. I'm a casual gamer, Eve is the only non-console game I play. I'm not terribly happy about this, but I understand why CCP has set the bar where they have.
5. I have no doubt CCP is aware of the current forum/blog explosions. The fact that they're waiting so long leads me to believe that there are a lot of phone calls and meetings going on right now to figure out what they can fix in the short term, and how to present that to the player base.

Also, to all the posters and protesters out there. I used to be a labor organizer and design grassroots campaign strategy. You're doing good, but you need to work on your messaging. It's about picking clear targets that you can move and designing tactics around that. I've seen the Jita protest stuff, and it looks good, but I'm not there right now to see it for real. I wonder how clear the messaging is, and I wonder how big an effect it is having. Blocking anyone from logging on to Jita is p. badass. It's like a sit-in blocking street traffic--you're going to make some people very angry, but it shows a strong support base that is willing to do what is necessary. It's not about RAGING and spergy threads, its about picking clear and concise demands and focusing on that.
But so far its working. CCP Fallout says there's a devblog coming out, so there must be a devblog coming out. It's a sensitive PR issue for CCP and they are going to take their time with it. I want to see it as much as you all do, but we shouldn't get mad that its not out yet. If it's not out within a few hours, however, it is probably a delay tactic and you all have to escalate.
Remember, we do not own CCP, we are merely their customers. And consumers DO have power, but we have to demonstrate that power.
For the record, I am not going to try to organize you, or tell you what to do, or any of that, because I believe that we need to hear the dev's response before going all nutty.

I couldn't agree with the OP more - very clear and concise ideas and methods of fixing the glaring issues with Incarna and the direction that CCP is headed.
I would personally like to see Aurum scrapped as i find it unnecessary and selfish - the concept itself isn't a huge deal, it's the fact that CCP are making it seem like they want more money from community, which is a bad attitude and sign of things to come.

EDIT: so I urged calm waiting for the dev blog, and the dev blog ended up being complete dribble. My bad.
Love,
Illa
Please, oh dear sweet baby Jesus let them acknowledge these items and just do it.
In a perfect world, no MT at all, but if they must, only vanity. As for #5, a must if you are going to have any semblance of a relationship with you players. CCP of ALL other MMO's should know how important customer loyalty is to their success. A #6, add some content that makes players want to get into CQ.

Yeah. -
