If you read the EVE Online: Incarna patch notes, you may have noticed some really great content changes. CCP Big Dumb Object details them in his newest dev blog.

Considering you are front news on most gamesites, for a bad reason. You are awfully silent.

Would be nice to see the stuff in the blog, if I could actually get the game to install, like many others. Yes, I filed a petition, but most likely will have to wait days before it is resolved, if it can be resolved.

Oh so true.
I've never experienced the scenery randomization bug before, in fact I've never even heard of it. I'm kind of sad that it has been fixed now because it would be funny to experience.
I have always turned down missions against the Guristas because of the jamming. Even with ECCM I have often been jammed for minutes at a time. I'm really happy that this has been restructured.
Thank you BDO.

Hello all,
We understand that right now, many of you have a number of concerns and issues with the current state of EVE Online, we ask that you not derail threads with these posts. We are asking all of you who have comments and issues regarding the newsletter to post in this thread, and those of you with comments and issues regarding the Noble Exchange store prices to post here. This will help us keep track of what is being said by the community much more easily, while allowing other players to discuss other aspects of EVE Online in an on-topic environment.

Fair enough, I'm glad to see a post that shows your even playing attention to all of this.
As for the blog, fixing things is good, what more can I say? Thanks for re-balancing missions, even if I no longer run them, it's good for the game and good for those that do (I assume, since I haven't run them myself...)

The author of this "dev blog" can call himself anything he wants, but don't for a second think we all are the same. This is lamest attempt at saying you did something useful.
Any MMO company that thinks they have done something great in allowing an avatar walk around a small room, while consuming more resources than world wide real time weather modelling application, deserves to fail. Truly an aweful example of software development. Don't get me started on "Greed is Good".

Hate to tell you this mate, but looks ike CCP Fallout is trimming back the posts.
I'm gonna have to guess you have 2x the amount of posts on this thread. You're still up to page 3 almost! You'd be at page 4 or 5 I have no doubt.
My last post got deleted before I could even refresh! :)

I had to laugh, I'm glad you can have a sense of humor about all this, not that stuff going on in other threads is a laughing matter, but it's not your fault or department. The player base is up in arms right now, sorry you got shoved face first into all of it. You must have drawn the short straw to release a dev blog today.

Alright, thanks for the explanation. Seemed odd.
Hope the new Forum Software has friendlier dev tools for you.
I just want to say, whatever the policy is at the moment - your managing the situation with the community with minimal intervention is definitely in CCP's best interest - I could only imagine the horrors if a heavy fist was brought down.

I'm all cool for learning about new and exciting changes, but the "creative" and "cool" way they are communicated (unrealistically) really distort the message. I personally don't need a cool little back drop, like "your ******* agent won't pay you". Just tell what was broken, and how it was changed so that it makes sense. Do it in a manner that I don't have to wade through the RP crap. It's too confusing, and IHMO not very relevant to the message.
Other than that, the changes are welcomed. Hope to see more in the future. Confucius say... "When called an idiot sometimes is better to be quiet than to open mouth and remove all doubt." |

Nice dev blog... would be ecstatic if not for the total lack of dev blogs on certain other topics related to this expansion...
BTW about that AOE drone dmg, To add to the sleeper, Sansha, and in PVP Player drone targeting.... How much do you hate the Gallente?
Could we please have something to fix the results of countless nerf bats against our once proud ships and drones? Possibilities include;
Giving Gallente back extra drone bandwidth...
Massive dronebay expansions for spares (for gallente) now you have bandwidth to independently control number and size...
The ability to almost instantly lock your own drones up, allowing for practical remote repping your drones (possibly allow for this to be separate from usual target locks, possibly? or alternatively simply allow mods to be applied to your own drones without locking via the drone window, so in effect your own drones are always perma-locked via your control link without reducing your hostile locking capability)...
Allowing drones to have (very low) self armour/shield rep rates, both in space and/or in hanger (hull reps with nanite paste?)
Also some rebalancing of gallente ships and weapons so we don't have point-blank range weapons on really slow unmanuverable ships....
Otherwise, all good news, well written and entertaining blog.... But completely overshadowed by the train wreck of CQ and MT... Also this is the kind of stuff you post before a patch to tell people what is coming and get them excited about it... not 2 days after.
Also in the current climate I would want the response to the PR disaster of Incarna to be dealt with before trying to talk about anything else... It looks like your just trying to ignore us otherwise. So, overall, good blog... bad timing. --------

Sure thing. Our deadspace sites can fire an event that damages a player. This is used in some scripted explosions, damage clouds, etc. Well, turns out there's been a bug in the system where only player ships were damaged. Player drones, however, were ignored by the event. So drones could just fly straight into the heart of a damage cloud, pop target, and fly out. This has been altered, so now the little drone buddies are affected just the same.
Not that this is only a change to a scripted event used in some deadspace and mission sites. Drones in the wider world have not been altered.

Is the magic math related to the magic programming that produced meltdown in CQ, or is it perhaps related to the magic decision to make all but the high end hardware obsolete? --------------------- Countdown to sub running out: 9 |

Yay, we like BDO. Mainly because he has the best name.
I think this will help slightly in closing the massive gap between PvE and PvP as ECCM is probably about as useful in both. But what would help more is if it were possible to make player EWAR work exactly the same vs NPC as it does against players. I understand this is likely much more technically challenging (and maybe not even possible) so I don't have any expectations, but the idea of being able to tracking disrupt, neut, or jam rats is pretty cool. |

Thanks for fixing the bugs though. At least something content-related got done

Not buying it.....

Trying to make this dev blog readable
NPC jamming in missions greatly reduced.
If you need get an item from a spawn container and do Another Thing, the system will now properly track that both are done before telling you the mission's complete. This does not affect items that drop in loot cans. Only sites using spawn containers are affected.
Bug in our scenery randomization=fixed
Some DED sites text has been rewritten.
Also, the "ranged damage" event in sites now hurts drones as well. So if you've been relying on your swarm of little robot friends to complete sites at no risk to themselves: We fooled you! KABLAM! NO CLUE WHAT THIS MEANS
Now every pirate mission runner should have access to mining missions at every level.

Not a bad post overall, but it's called a MacGuffin
No need to reinvent the spinny round thing, eh?
"Plot device" predates MacGuffin by a bunch, and is a larger category that contains MacGuffins.
Fun fact: the original draft phrased it as a "Big Bag of Plot", but it was changed to not be so mean to our translators.

*This* devblog deserves a carrot. (atta-boy BDO) The core-game, Internet Spaceships (Where even your grandmother will pod you if she has a chance.) *is* getting some attention.
*Other issues*, which shall not be discussed here, are appropriately receiving the stick. Up to and including dropped subs and decisions not to renew.
Anyway, BDO/Pinkos and BFF, thanks for your attention to improving the actual game we want to play. And also thanks for engaging us by reading our posts and responding in this thread.

We're aware of the starter agents all being listed as Distribution. We're looking into it.
Pirate starting agents and areas do pop up in brainstorming every so often, but we have no real plans for these at this time.

I'll be honest, the real root of the issue is how pathetic Incarna is, and with nothing new on the horizon for 1-2 years at least, and after a veritable drought of content of fixes in the past, seeing dev blogs as uselessly **** as this adds fuel to the fire.
Not to mention, why waste our time reading through this narrative when you can deliver the information people need in 3 lines? Info****ingtainment, we don't want infotainment, we just want the information.
There was a time when dev blogs gave glimpses of the future for the community to look forward to. Now it's just garbage like this and another nth iteration of 'life in the QA department'.

Edited by: Buzzmong on 24/06/2011 20:31:20 Good changes and an interesting devblog. Nice one BDO.
I have a question regarding the items in the new Plot DeviceÖ:
Previously you could blitz the missions by simply buying the needed items off the market/contracts (and in the case of some missions, getting in a fast MWD'ing frigate to trigger spawns and warp out before aggro) and handing in those bought items instead of the ones in the spawn container.
As the mission item is now tied to the spawn container, will mean we can no longer blitz the smash and grab style missions in the same way? --------------------------------- Go Web! Go! |

Wow, still Dev replies and we're already on page 5.
CCP BDO, you rock!!!
I got a question a little of topic also if you don't mind, please?
Your first reply on page 1 is:
Originally by: CCP Big Dumb Object Oh, hey cool, my devblog came out.
Now as I always try to get the bigger picture (excellence and that), how does this work, if you are allowed to answer this? What is the usual time-frame for a Devblog. How is the Schedule for writing it, getting it reviewed, it being published and so on? How much time are you expected to have for answering (babysitting) these comment threads? How much is it encouraged? How do you get informed when a blog is being published and have you any influence (making it more convenient to fit into your own work-schedule). Essentially, what is the culture around Devblogs from a Devs/CCP's point of view?
Cheers!

Good work on the Dev Blog, and whatever has been said, some of us appreciate your presentation.
ITT for the rest of you: Content would suck if it was written by people with no sense of humor, and a clinical perspective on everything.
I wish I could be more enthusiastic, but the last few days has drained me, and I only laughed and smiled while I was reading your blog, which was followed by a sinking depression as I read half the responses here, and finally posted.
A lot of off-topic responses here, which have nothing to do with your blog or work. I am glad to hear that the bizarre environment effects are taken care of. Nasty bit of business that. Everything else sounds cool too.
Thx

Good to see the jamming frequency was reduced, but it seems to have introduced a new bug.
Sometimes during a mission/belt with jamming NPC's, you will see a jamming countdown when no NPC is attempting to jam you. (Note: they are not failing to jam, as this will still happen when they're all dead). Not gamebreaking, but still annoying.
Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Different Devs are responsible for different areas. Also, the Devs sticking their heads into the other threads is like one of those shooting games at carnivals. Pretty much lining themselves up to be shot down by a number of emo-raging people. Used to work as a forum mod for SOE, so I know the drill. It's nothing personal, just the most effective way to handling things (getting involved gives people a target for their anger).
That being said, nice blog BDO. Very entertaining, I'd probably read it just for its entertainment factor alone Good work and keep the fixes coming mate ---------------------------------

Still looking for ANYTHING positive out of Incarna.
STILL FAILING.
I do have to concede that the last couple of patchs seems to have helped a LITTLE with the crazylag - I'm now only seeing gate jump times, undock, and dock in the half again to DOUBLE pre-Incarna range instead of the 3-5 TIMES of the initial Incarna patch. On the other hand, could be reduced load on my ISP now that the local college is out for the summer......
