Edited by: Katrina Oniseki on 25/06/2011 11:58:41 Are you able to give us a very loose guesstimate on when we can expect the remainder of older ships to be redesigned like the Maller and Scorpion?
I'm not looking for a set in stone date, just something rough like "possibly summer 2012". If you're able to tell, should we be expecting a bulk delivery of ships like Trinity gave us, or should we expect a trickle of ships over multiple Incarna 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 releases? (Or whatever relevant expansion name it would be, if not Incarna)

I'm talking about the remodeling of the existing ships. The Maller and Scorpion received new models and textures, and the rest of the ships are being worked on. You're switching to the new PGS texture system, are you not? It was mentioned clearly in this devblog. Sure, not all the ships are going to have a whole new design, but they -all- need to be updated to work with the new thruster effects shown at Incarna login screen and turret designs in place.
I'll provide more links for you ASAP.
Originally by: CCP Spitfire Hello Katrina Oniseki,
Sorry for the late reply but yes, this is essentially correct. All ships need to be upgraded to new shaders, and they'll get the new engine effects at that time (as far as I know, at least).

More importantly, CCP Fallout, can you confirm or deny that CCP plans to move forward with MT to non-vanity items?
It's the only thing we all care about. Please make a statement on this immediately.

Fallout doesn't have access to this information, or cannot comment on it because she has been told not to. Do you think if she had the information and was allowed to tell us by her bosses she would withhold it?

Next update codenamed "Augustus" will provide Incarna with racial quarters hopefully. Meybe after that we will see some new redesigns in the release codenameed "Tiberius". Personally I have no idea what's up with this Roman Emperors codenames, but Caligula will be promising update if CCP will continue naming trend

Have you forgotten EVE is probably the only major MMO that even allows 3rd parties make completely standalone tools at the expense of CCP server and bandwidth load?
More on topic: It'd be nice to see some of the cap ships redesigned as well, namely the Phoenix and Wyvern, maybe also Aeon

Yeah, instead of developing ships and so on, they are developing ways to charge super high prices for pixels, and ways to introduce non-vanity, game breaking changes to the NEX store.

Quoted so people get the message. CCP is not some Borg-like collective consciousness where everybody knows what everybody else is doing (else there wouldn't be this communication SNAFU). The people we can most easily reach, people like CCP Fallout, are the people who know the least about the issues we have. All Fallout can do is bring our issues to the attention of the right people, and my understanding is he's done that.
So lay off the guy, alright? Fallout isn't the problem. In fact, I daresay he's doing a fine job.

Hi all,
IĈm CCP Thrustmaster. I am a member of the team that has so far brought you Primae, Noctis, Punisher, Maller, Scorpion, Sansha mothership and a few more. We are in the process of doing something called ôV3 shader projectö of our current catalogue of ships. This involves a lot of work for our artists. While this project does not involve new ship geometry, it does mean that older ships will look more up to date than they are now in game. Ship shaders look better, and we are adding thruster glow to each ship's thrusters.
We have a huge backlog of ships and other space assets that are due for facelifts and makeovers. In this first iteration we are tackling the technical part of the work for the entire EVE fleet and later this year will start working on what is the actual visual improvements. We are all the more motivated by the player enthusiasm for things that look good while they go Pew-Pew. We will have a dev blog in the near future explaining this in much more detail.

At least someone is working on actual spaceship content in a spaceship game. Would be nice if we wouldn't have to wait another year until we get better looking ships though.

Nice to hear. Can I ask you to raise the bar a little bit though? No more "space turds" (sansha mothership) or "transformer-toys" (scorpion). The maller look kinda okey but doesn't really fit in, same for the primae. And they all look kinda "plastic" (shader?). Good luck though :)

First of all let me thank you guys for the great job you have done so far!
Second, these facelifts and makeovers do they include the necessaries prep-work for redoing the missile system, like removing fixed launchers from ships like the Drake ?

Great work on the Maller. It was one of my least favorite ships looks-wise before, and now my gas harvester is one of my favorite ships to fly.

While we're at it, please, please remove those spikes on the front of the Machariel and make it darker!
The spikes look very out of place when looking at the rest of the ship, and the Mach is a lot brighter than both the Dramiel and Cynabal, which should not be the case.

They do just not on the HUD, personally I can barely see them on my current target in a lot of situations =\

I'm very happy to meet you, CCP Thrustmaster!
While I am overjoyed to hear this, there are a lot of ship models that need subtle changes to geometry since the release of the new turret models. Dramiel, Malediction, hell, even the Rifter hulls have problems with the new turrets and their respective hard points. I'm extremely happy that everything is getting an update, but please, PLEASE take a little extra time and polish the geometry a little so that everything fits together. Right now it looks like the new turrets, as beautiful as they are, are super-glued to the hulls in odd places where they don't actually fit, physically, on the geometry. It looks bad on a lot of ships.
If this is what you meant by what you're doing later this year, then great. It'd be nice to know for sure tough, if that's your meaning. :) ------------------- @evemerc on Twitter Author of EVE Merc |

Indeed.
How about tossing all the 3d lattice on minmatar ships. I know it was intended to make them look rusty and such, but with the polish on the noctis etc, they just look like overheated nvidia graphics anomolies. I cant stand getting into a stabber or rifter because its a distraction. As an artist myself i empathize with the effort and appreciate the team, but appreciate the communication and responsive dev equally. +1 on twitter updates in #TWEETFLEET.

If so, Will the Orca get a revamp to or not? (Because it ORE/DCM it could maybe have a mix of Ore and if i am correct Caldari look.)
Also small question about the Salvagers/Tractorbeams.
Maybe an good idea to make them scale with your ship? A tractorbeam/salvager on a Noctis looks like a tiny dot.)
Also: How about ORE getting some competition from DCM wich releases his own variations of the Exhumers/Miningbarges. (Same stats though just to make it versatile in space.) ORE is originaly Gallente and DCM is Caldari; makes sense? :P - Dude where is my Charon? - |

Haha yea my tractor beam on my Orca is so tiny, but i like that, it gives the ship scale into perspective.
One thing i would like to add, on some ships in EVE currently i notice that you can see a bump running down the middle of the ship from its bump map.
I know you can solve this by using the blur tool in photoshop around the edges of the bump map texture, then you can't see where the edge of the texture is on the ships :3 --------------------------

Are you guys planning on removing the missile launchers built into ships while you are at it so you dont have to do the same work twice when ccp overhead finally decides that missile launchers need thier own 'turrets' or are you guys going to keep those ships 'hands off' until you get the go ahead and save them for last? You mean first iteration of v3 will come out with Augustus or with Tiberius? Also I have seen that old Scorp model is still updating (lod model iirc), and some NPCs (like EOM cruisers) have old models. Does this mean CCP have plans for this hulls, maybe sell them for aur?

QFT!
Please do never ever (again) scale turrets/effects/positionInHangar/whatever in regard to the ships size. As Zeko Rena already stated, keeping stuff in one size across all shipsizes is a great opportunity to introduce some sense of scale. And that's one of the things EVE is missing or lets say not using enough since its start back in 2003.

I'm sure CCP has a clear stance about the future of microtransactions in EVE and I find it highly unlikely that you're out of the loop of such a huge decision within CCP, I Wish you guys would just give us a straight answer and stop the damage control.

Originally by: CCP Thrustmaster Hi all,
IĈm CCP Thrustmaster.
You've done a cracking job so far but can you please if possible try and get the Raven model looked at. It litterally looks like the design inspiration for the Raven came from a cup of pens with a little notebook placed next to it. Seriously get a cup point the handel out to the right stick some pens or pencils inside it and then put a little notbook on the left hand side of the cup and it looks like a Raven. Its an awefull awefull design, the person that created the Raven must have had some kind of inspirational block and just looked at there desk infront on them to get some random shape for the Raven. About these protest CCP

Edited by: impli on 28/06/2011 11:36:09 Hi CCP.Thrustmaster,
Is it possible to also add such shining hangar bay force fields to the other carrier vehicles?
I miss them on the most of the carriers and the drone boats like abitrator class cruiser.
On the noctis and sansha motherships they are already shiny :D. Btw I love the new engine effect.. I also prever the new models ..
PLease work on Abitrator, Raven, Dominix, Vexor (the badest textures I ever seen in EVE), Blackbird. Those ships realy need a new model. You can take the ideas of the contest people, there a many good designs.

Would it be possible at some point to have higher ship texture resolutions? Definitely not set as standard, but there as an option for newer graphics cards in the same way higher textures are available for the Avatars. The ships look lovely from mid range, but close in the small details are blurry. Many thanks.

Why can't ORE make battleships? I think the best ship designs in the game are ORE Industrial (Except the ORCA. Not much elegant about that...)
